SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
Trainer S. Dwyer reported that GRAND BAZAAR, which competed in race 6 at the GCTC on 5 January 2005, was subsequently scoped and found to have a substantial amount of mucus in its trachea and will now be given a short let up. Stewards instructed Mr Dwyer that he would be required to produce a veterinary clearance for GRAND BAZAAR prior to starting again.
Race 1: Northern City Finance NMW H'cap - 1010m.
1st - She's All Greek 2nd - Sit There Dear 3rd - Peterkin 4th - Unite And Prosper
BOWEN STREET became fractious in the barriers prior to the start and then when released was slow to begin.
SHE'S ALL GREEK was slow to begin and then shortly after came together with PETERKIN and brushed.
SEGUISTA was momentarily held up for clear running approaching the 100m. and was obliged to steady and shifted out.
ARMAMENT and REGAL TALLY were obliged to race wide throughout.
A post-race veterinary examination of UNITE AND PROSPER revealed the gelding had sustained a laceration to he off fore pastern.
Mr K. Kemp, trainer of BOWEN STREET, was questioned over the performance of that mare and stated that it was out of character for the mare to become fractious in the barriers today, however he had no explanation for the disappointing performance. He further stated that BOWEN STREET would now be sent for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination of BOWEN STREET failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 2: Ben's Mitre 10 QTIS 2yo H'cap - 1110m.
1st - Virage De Fortune 2nd -Welcome Site 3rd - Aladdins Lion 4th - Habitually
Trainer P. Balzen reported that PITCH WHITE had contacted its hind quarters in the tie-up stall area, but was subsequently passed fit to start after undergoing a veterinary examination.
WELCOME SITE was slow to begin.
Shortly after the start, KAINDARA GOLD shifted out and bumped THE BIG EASY, which became unbalanced and was steadied.
S. Katsidis, rider of ALADDINS LION, was reminded of his obligations when steadying the pace whilst leading the field and in turn causing other runners to be hampered.
Approaching the 1000m., PITCH WHITE, whilst overracing, became awkward on the heels of HOTSHOT HAYIL and was steadied.
Approaching the 700m. when the pace of the raced slowed, KAINDARA GOLD became awkward on the heels of ALADDINS LION. As a result, PITCH WHITE shifted out to avoid the heels of KAINDARA GOLD and in turn hampered THE BIG EASY, which was obliged to race wider on the track. Shortly after this incident, TAABINGA LASS became momentarily awkward on the heels of PITCH WHITE and was steadied.
Approaching the 600m., and for some distance after this, KAINDARA GOLD continued to overrace.
HOTSHOT HAYIL was obliged to race wide throughout and failed to run on in the straight.
Apprentice G. McKeon, rider of HOTSHOT HAYIL, was admonished over the way he rode his mount out to the finish line. He was instructed in future to ride his mounts out hands and heels to the line.
Race 3: Kobble Creek NMW Racing H'cap - 1350m.
1st - Excellent Ann 2nd - Stonecrusher 3rd - Darcy Vargas 4th - What A Landing
As L. Deguara was ill, J. Taylor was substituted as the rider of THESPIAN PRINCE.
OUR SECRET AGENT jumped awkwardly and lost ground.
Approaching the 1000m., THESPIAN PRINCE became unbalanced when being eased.
Shortly after this point, OUR SECRET AGENT, which was overracing during the early stages, became awkward on the heels of THESPIAN PRINCE and was steadied. As a consequence, SPECIALLY MADE, which was also overracing, was hampered.
MR. BALLISTIC hung in during the early stages and bumped THESPIAN PRINCE, and also hung in in the straight, proving difficult to ride out. Stable representative Miss T. Scown was instructed that a warning was being placed on the racing manners of MR BALLISTIC.
Near the 150m., GAY DECEPTION was accidentally struck over the head by the whip of B. Dieckmann, rider of OUR SECRET AGENT.
A. Pattillo, rider of GAY DECEPTION, dropped his whip near the 100m..
Race 4: QRSE Suncorp 3yo Business Banking H'cap - 1200m.
1st - Banabolda 2nd - Star Of Asia 3rd - Maxy Legs 4th - Quintex
P. Hammersley was examined by the club's doctor after riding in race 3 and stood down from his remaining engagements. J. Taylor was substituted as the rider of INSTANT REWARD, S. Galloway as the rider of SEA DRIVE (Race 5), R. Goltz as the rider of FLASHING JACK (Race 6) and A. Best as the rider of MONTE MIST (Race 7).
Trainer S. Dwyer was fined $50 under AR64(1) for nominating MR SEQUENTIAL for this event when ineligible.
CAFFE FRANCAIS was slow to begin.
Shortly after the start, QUINTEX shifted out and SEE YOU TWIST shifted in, resulting in INSTANT REWARD, CAFFE FRANCAIS and OUR QUICK TESS all being crowded and steadied.
OUR QUICK TESS overraced shortly after leaving the 900m. and became awkward on the heels of CHAMBER OF SECRETS. As a consequence, MIKDAR was momentarily hampered.
OUR QUICK TESS was obliged to race wide during the middle stages.
Rounding the home turn, QUINTEX laid in and bumped SEE YOU TWIST.
Approaching the 150m., STAR OF ASIA, which was attempting a narrow run to the inside of MAXY LEGS, was disappointed for the run, was eased and shifted wider across the heels of MAXY LEGS to secure clear running. Shortly after, BANABOLDA hung in despite the efforts of its rider, momentarily taking MAXY LEGS inwards, obliging S. Seamer, rider of BANABOLDA, to stop riding and straighten his mount.
A post-race veterinary examination of SEE YOU TWIST failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 5: Ernie Birch Class 6 Memorial QTIS H'cap - 2020m.
1st - Willy Leica 2nd - Social Gathering 3rd - Sea Drive 4th - Mazacar
GOOD BRANDY jumped outwards at the start, taking CANIONA out on to SPELL SONG, which in turn momentarily hampered SIEU CHAC MIENG.
Approaching the first turn, GOOD BRANDY got its head up when being steadied and shifted out, hampering MERRY PIERCE.
SIEU CHAC MIENG steadied approaching the 1000m. when placed awkwardly on heels and shifted out.
From the 800m., WILLY LEICA, CANIONA and SIUE CHAC MIENG were all obliged to race wide.
Rounding the home turn, WHEEL THE LEAD was held up momentarily.
FINAL SIREN was held up from shortly after straightening until nearing the 200m. to the inside of GOOD BRANDY.
WHEEL THE LEAD laid in under pressure over the final stages.
Approaching the winning post, THE SPIT was steadied when SOCIAL GATHERING shifted in.
Over the final stages, DANTINA steadied when WHEEL THE LEAD shifted in.
DANTINA and WHEEL THE LEAD were obliged to race wide throughout.
Race 6: QRSE Blackrayne Pastoral H'cap - 2020m.
1st - Chinbok 2nd - Rue The Saint 3rd - Raw Instinct 4th - Rangers
TAKAS was withdrawn at 3.37 p.m. on veterinary advice after the gelding dislodged S. Galloway on the way to the barriers and then escaped around the track. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on TAKAS were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 4 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 5 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets.
BUSH TRIUMPH was slow to begin and shortly after CHINBOK shifted out, crowding BUSH TRIUMPH.
HAMAH jumped out bumped COLD START at the start.
FLASHING JACK jumped awkwardly.
Nearing the winning post on the first occasion, HAMAH was steadied from the heels of LISTEN PAL which shifted in.
D. Ballard was instructed to exercise more care in future after RUE THE SAINT began to lay in shortly after the winning post on the first occasion, crowding RAW INSTINCT in on to CAPTAIN ZIGZAG, resulting in CAPTAIN ZIGZAG being eased and momentarily losing ground.
MAKE ME A MIRACLE was obliged to race wide in the early stages.
Near the 1300m., ENABLER momentarily shifted out, crowding TYALGUM POP on to MAKE ME A MIRACLE, resulting in TYALGUM POP being steadied.
RUE THE SAINT and RANGERS were obliged to race wide from the 600m..
Rounding the home turn, CHINBOK was momentarily held up on the heels of ENABLER and shifted out, and in doing so bumped RAW INSTINCT onto RANGERS, which in turn was crowded on to RUE THE SAINT. Jockey A. Best, rider of CHINBOK, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
COLD START was obliged to race wide throughout.
A post-race veterinary examination of BUSH TRIUMPH revealed the mare to be sore in the off fore leg. Trainer Mrs K. Doughty was instructed to produce a veterinary clearance before the mare's next race start.
Following a post-race veterinary examination of CAPTAIN ZIGZAG, it was noted that the gelding had sustained a laceration over the off eye and over the bridge of the nose.
Race 7: Resi Mortgage Corporation 1mw H'cap - 1615m.
1st - Blu Sky Mining 2nd - El Suroso 3rd - Dead Cat Bounce 4th - Active Combat
ARGENTERIE was slow to begin. (4L)
Shortly after the start, DEAD CAT BOUNCE was crowded between SHE'S ALL GOLD and BLU SKY MINING, both of which shifted ground.
ACTIVE COMBAT overraced in the early stages and when attempting to be steadied, shifted out and bumped TELE SERIES after leaving the 1200m.. ACTIVE COMBAT continued to overrace for some distance in the middle stages.
Race 8: NEC Australia Class 6 H'cap - 1200m.
1st - Minassi 2nd - Casual Chick 3rd - Dodging 4th - Spinardo
G. Colless was examined by the club's doctor after riding in race 5 and stood down from his engagement in this race. S. Galloway was substituted as the rider of HUDSON JACK.
A pre-race veterinary examination was carried out on EXQUISITELY upon arriving at the barriers and was passed fit to start.
Whilst progressing to the start, apprentice B. Hull, rider of FREEZE FRAME, became aware that the girth had become slack and his saddle moved. Upon reaching the barriers, FREEZE FRAME had become rather fractious and he advised the starter Mr Roberts that the girth would have to be replaced.
The race start was delayed for approximately 7 minutes whilst the gear on FREEZE FRAME had to be replaced. When attempting to place FREEZE FRAME in the barriers, the mare refused to load and was subsequently withdrawn at 5.07 p.m.. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on FREEZE FRAME were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 21 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 17 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets. At a subsequent inquiry, stable representative Mr W. Cuddihy was instructed that FREEZE FRAME would have to partake in an official barrier trial to the satisfaction of the stewards before starting again. Trainer Mrs G. Heinrich will be contacted at a later date in reference to not supplying Mr Cuddihy with a letter of authority.
Stewards questioned apprentice B. Hull, rider of FREEZE FRAME, and stable representative W. Cuddihy in reference to the saddling of FREEZE FRAME and established that an elastic girth had been used and was to the satisfaction of both attendant and rider on leaving the enclosure.
SPINARDO jumped awkwardly.
FOREVER SNIPPED was slow to begin.
FOREVER SNIPPED was obliged to race wide from the 800m. until rounding the home turn.
Approaching the 800m., SPINARDO steadied from the heels of MINASSI, which shifted in. S. Seamer, rider of MINASSI, was instructed to exercise more care.
Between the 200m. and the final stages, DIFFICULT was unable to obtain clear running and then shortly before the winning post, shifted out and bumped MAIN DRIVE.
