Stanley was also advised that the penalty should not be taken as a precedent for any further incidents whereby he fails to notify stewards of his unavailability to fulfil engagements.

26 MAY 2005: Stewards today continued an inquiry which was adjourned from Doomben on Saturday, 23 April, following G. Colless being dislodged from FORTY WINKS in Race 1. At Doomben on 23 April an inquiry was opened and evidence was taken from J. Byrne, S. Galloway and A. Best. After taking some evidence, the inquiry was adjourned to a time and date to be fixed to enable G. Colless to provide evidence. At the continuation of the inquiry today, further evidence was taken from J. Byrne, S. Galloway, and G. Colless also submitted evidence. After considering the evidence, S. Galloway, the rider of TAKING IT EASY, was charged with careless riding in that near the 400m he permitted TAKING IT EASY to shift out which resulted in FORTY WINKS having to be checked and making contact with FOURWINNERS (J. Byrne), resulting in G. Colless being dislodged. S. Galloway was found guilty and after considering submissions in relation to penalty, taking into account his record, S. Galloway was suspended from riding in races for a period of three weeks to commence at midnight on Saturday, 28 May, and expire at midnight on Saturday, 18 June 2005.

Race 1: TOOHEYS EXTRA DRY 2MW LY H'CAP – 1200M
1st – Renouf 2nd – Gilded Youth 3rd – Dane Fever 4th – Shockeroo

GILDED YOUTH (B. El-Issa) jumped away awkwardly.

On straightening, SHOCKEROO (B. Stewart) when attempting to improve, shifted out and brushed SHIVIRGO (C. Munce).

B. El-Issa was dislodged from GILDED YOUTH on pulling up after the winning post. B. El-Issa was able to weigh in and sustained no injury from the fall.

When questioned concerning the disappointing performance of SHIVIRGO (C. Munce), trainer G. Ryan stated that he was of the opinion that the horse did not seem to be racing as well this preparation and he felt that despite it working well leading up to this race, he conceded that the horse was disappointing. Mr Ryan also indicated that the horse seems to race best when able to lead in its own right. He further added that he intended to give the horse an ease-up. A veterinary examination of SHIVIRGO revealed no abnormalities.

When questioned as to the performance of GILDED YOUTH, B. El-Issa stated that the horse could not muster any early pace and approaching the first turn the horse dropped the bit and he was obliged to pull the whip as the horse appeared to lose interest at that stage.

After receiving a complaint from part-owner Mr A. Johnston in relation to the riding tactics adopted by jockey J. Byrne on HELTER SKELTER, in particular that J. VOCALIC was forced to race wide throughout.

Approaching the home turn STREET SMART (C. Whiteley) was taken out slightly by GRECOLO and in doing so made contact with FOURWINNERS.

For some distance approaching the 200m COOL SCENE was held up for clear running and leaving the 200m had to angle to the inside of JEBSEN CHAMPION (D. Nikolic) to obtain clear running.

IRISH SPRINTER (N. Jolly), which raced extremely wide in the middle stages and compounded over the latter stages to finish some distance from the bulk of the field, was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon who reported the horse to be sore in the nearside hind leg. FOREPLAY, which suffered a heart irregularity after the Goodwood Handicap in Adelaide, was cleared to race following the results of an ECG and a further veterinary examination on course prior to racing.

Shortly after the start GENERALISSIMO shifted in and had to be eased off the heels of FOREPLAY.

RECAPITALIZE (J. Byrne) was held up for clear running behind the heels of ENTHUSIAST in the early stages of the straight.

Near the 100m SHABLEC (Z. Purton) was disappointed for a run between ENTHUSIAST (H. Bowman) and AMTRAK, which shifted in slightly, and had difficulty obtaining clear running to the finish.

D. Beadman reported that OSCA WARRIOR felt awkward on jumping away and he believed that there may be something amiss with the horse as it was unable to muster pace in the early stages. A veterinary examination of OSCA WARRIOR revealed that the horse was sore in the nearside hind leg.

D. Beasley reported that FOREPLAY did not feel comfortable when wide on the track for the majority of the race as the horse was having its first run in the clockwise direction. He added that the horse was hard ridden prior to the home turn, however did finish the race off reasonably well and was of the opinion that the horse should take improvement from the experience of racing clockwise.

Jockey Z. Purton reported that SHABLEC felt awkward rounding the first turn and in his opinion the horse was not comfortable racing clockwise for the first time. He added that in his opinion the horse may be better suited with more experience racing in the clockwise direction.

Approaching the 2000m J. Byrne attempted to position PACIFIC DANCER to the inside of the heels of CEDAR MANOR and this resulted in TICKLE and RAW INSTINCT being placed in restricted room.

Near the 400m PORTLAND SINGA (L. Cassidy) improved into a run in restricted room between PERLIN (D. Nikolik) and PACIFIC DANCER (J. Byrne), and when being steadied shifted in resulting in RAW INSTINCT being tightened.
