Race 1: JACOB’S CREEK RESERVE 0MW LY H’CAP – 1615M
1st – Prince Arthur 2nd – Fiery Sunset 3rd – Bit Of Magic 4th - Hamah
As M. Cahill was to be overweight, D. Nikolic was substituted as the rider of PRINCE ARTHUR, and J. Holder was substituted as the rider of SEA CHAIN in Race 2. M. Cahill was fined $500 under AR. 120(b).
PRINCE ARTHUR (D. Nikolic) and BIT OF MAGIC (J. Bowditch) came together on jumping away.
BANNOCK BAY (S. Apthorpe) and CELTIC TRIAL (S. Seamer) jumped away awkwardly.
Shortly after the start LA BELLA MER (G. Colless) shifted in and bumped KARA GEORGE (J. Byrne).
SPINNING CON (J. Taylor) was forced to race wide in the early stages.
Approaching the 1200m when being restrained PRINCE ARTHUR got its head in the air.
LEADER OF THE PACK (M. Palmer), LORENZO (K. Forrester) and KARA GEORGE were forced to race wide for the majority of the event.
Near the 400m AEROSOL (M. Morris) had to be steadied when tightened for room between BIT OF MAGIC and HAMAH (J. Holder) which shifted out to improve. J. Holder was reprimanded.
Near the 150m LA BELLA MER was inconvenienced when unable to obtain a run between HAMAH and BIT OF MAGIC.
Race 2: JACOB’S CREEK WELCOME TO OUR PLACE 2MW LY H’CAP – 1010M
1st - Becks 2nd – A Little Naughty 3rd – Dulacca Diva 4th – Red Hot Pistol
Shortly after the start RED HOT PISTOL (K. Pope) and DULACCA DIVA (S. Katsidis) brushed.
After passing the 800m BLACK SUIT (J. Taylor) laid out and continued to do so until shortly after straightening.
NAVAL SEAL (J. Byrne), RIVER HUNTER (D. Nikolic) and SEA CHAIN (J. Holder) were forced to race wide for the majority of the event.
Rounding the home turn GLOUCESTER ROAD (M. Palmer) and LINDMARK STAR (M. Morris) came together.
Shortly after straightening BECKS (Z. Purton) shifted out to improve and brushed NAVAL SEAL.
Race 3: JACOB’S CREEK SPARKLING 1MW LY H’CAP – 1350M
1st – Doonan Dancer 2nd – Viscay Star 3rd – Magic Marvo 4th - Bitabiff
CHAMPION STAR (M. Cahill) was slow to begin.
MAGIC MARVO (D. Nikolic) was tightened on jumping away between VISCAY STAR (M. Palmer) and BITABIFF (K. Forrester) which was taken in by GOLDEN FOX (M. Morris) which jumped away awkwardly.
DOONAN DANCER (A. Pattillo) laid out in the middle stages.
Approaching the 200m KING LATARMISS (N. Tomizawa) ran up on to the heels of CON CON (B. Stanley) and had to be steadied.
Approaching the 200m ACTIVE COMBAT (J. Bowditch) was obliged to alter course to obtain clear running.
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of STAR OF CANADA, G. Colless stated that he had a nice run throughout, however the horse was under pressure prior to the home turn and then failed to respond to his riding. His explanation was noted. A post-race veterinary examination of STAR OF CANADA failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer A. Bailey undertook to advise stewards if anything came to light in the days subsequent to the event which may explain the performance.
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of CON CON, B. Stanley stated that the gelding only jumped away fairly, however travelled well but when placed under pressure ran on only fairly. He added that in his opinion CON CON may be looking for more ground. A post-race veterinary examination of CON CON failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 4: JACOB’S CREEK GOLDEN STAKES – 1200M
1st - Turban 2nd - Savedbythebell 3rd – Angel Girl 4th - Stylized
DANCE WARS (M. Palmer) was slow to begin.
Passing the 900m STYLIZED (K. Pope) commenced to overrace and approaching the 700m had to be steadied. Again near the 600m STYLIZED had to be checked off the heels of SAVEDBYTHEBELL (B. Pengelly). PREY FOR PEACE (R. Mason) and IN YOUR HONOUR (Z. Purton), which were following, were also checked as a result.
PIRATE QUEEN (J. Taylor) made the first turn awkwardly.
Passing the 800m PARTYGOER (G. Lynch) ran up on to the heels of DIAMONDS AM I (D. Beadman) and had to be steadied.
Approaching the 600m TURBAN (D. Beadman) shifted in and bumped HEARTBREAK PASS (S. Katsidis).
PREY FOR PEACE was held up for clear running from the 300m until approaching the 100m.
A post-race veterinary examination of REIGART (A. Pattillo) failed to reveal any abnormalities.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of PARTYGOER, G. Lynch stated that he was forced to race in restricted room whilst obliged to race three wide with cover. He added that in his opinion the filly is better suited when able to lead.
Race 5: XXXX GOLD CHAIRMAN’S H’CAP – 2020M
1st – Art Success 2nd – Game On 3rd – Hello Possums 4th - Holidazzle
As S. Katsidis was to be overweight, S. Seamer was substituted as the rider of GAME ON, and MOLLY’S FOLLY in Race 6. At a subsequent inquiry, S. Katsidis was found guilty of a charge under AR. 120(b) and fined $1,000. Stewards also directed jockey Katsidis that he must not accept rides under 53 kilograms.
GAME ON (S. Seamer) was a little slow to begin.
BRAVE LANCER (L. Cassidy) jumped away awkwardly.
Passing the 1600m SIR COUP (S. Galloway) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of COALESCE (D. Beadman) which shifted in. D. Beadman was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
RUE THE SAINT (K. Yoshida) and SIR COUP were obliged to race wide for the majority of the event.
Passing the 600m GAME ON shifted out to improve and brushed AIDAN JAMES (K. Forrester).
Near the 400m BELGRADE (G. Lynch), which was tiring, had to be steadied off the heels of SIR CUP.
Shortly after straightening BRAVE LANCER had to be steadied off the heels of HIGH ACADEMY (G. Colless).
MOTIVATE (J. Taylor) had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the straight.
Approaching the 200m HIGH ACADEMY was disappointed for a run between COLD START (R. Mason) and KAJEMA (D. Beasley).
Near the 100m HELLO POSSUMS (J. Holder) shifted ground inwards.
When questioned regarding the performance of COALESCE, D. Beadman stated that he had to work harder than anticipated in the early stages to obtain a forward position and the horse was inclined to race keenly in the middle stages when RUE THE SAINT obtained a position to that horse’s outside. His explanation was noted. Trainer J. Hawkes’ foreman, M. Hawkes, was at a loss to explain the performance other than he stated that the horse had worked well leading into today’s event. Mr Hawkes undertook to advise stewards if anything came to light in the days subsequent to the event which may explain the performance. A post-race veterinary examination of COALESCE failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.
BELGRADE lost its off hind plate in running.
Race 6: JACOB’S CREEK DOOMBEN CLASSIC – 1615M
1st – Belmonte 2nd – Ice Chariot 3rd – Born To Rule 4th – Masai Pride
OUR PRIVATE JET, which broke through the barriers and dislodged S. Galloway, was a late scratching at 3.11 p.m. On the announcement of correct weight, stewards ordered that all monies invested on OUR PRIVATE JET be refunded, with deductions of 4 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets and 5 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets.
MOLLY’S FOLLY (S. Seamer) and MAJORCA (M. Cahill) came together on jumping away. A short distance later MOLLY’S FOLLY and MAJORCA were placed in restricted room between ICE CHARIOT (G. Lynch) and NASRULLAH’S GIRL (R. McMahon) which shifted in.
ANAPINE (D. Beasley) was obliged to race wide in the early stages.
TIME AND DANDY (K. Wharton) was obliged to race wide throughout.
The Club’s veterinary surgeon reported that NEXGEN (G. Colless) was galloped on on the off hind leg.
Race 7: JACOB’S CREEK BTC CUP – 1200M
1st – Gee I Jane 2nd – Daunting Lad 3rd – All Bar One 4th – Black Ink
DAUNTING LAD (A. Pattillo) was tightened on jumping away between UNDUE (S. Arnold) and CENTURY SERB (J. Taylor) which shifted out.
ST. BASIL (J. Byrne) and VOLITANT (D. Gauci) came together on jumping away. A short distance later ST. BASIL was placed in restricted room between FALAISE (D. Beadman) and VOLITANT.
Shortly after the start MEDIA (Z. Purton) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of DANCE THE WAVES (S. Katsidis) which shifted in.
SINGLE ROSE was forced to race wide in the early stages.
Near the 700m DAUNTING LAD hung out and made contact with IMPALER (B. Pengelly) which became unbalanced and lost ground.
Shortly after straightening MEDIA was inconvenienced by VIRAGE DE FORTUNE which shifted out.
Approaching the 200m GEE I JANE (S. Seamer) ran up on to the heels of BLACK INK and had to be steadied.
Passing the 200m DANCE THE WAVES had to be steadied when disappointed for a tight run between MISS MOONEY MOON and VIRAGE DE FORTUNE (G. Childs), which was taken out by SINGLE ROSE (D. Nikolic), which was inclined to lay out. D. Nikolic was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Approaching the 100m DAUNTING LAD shifted out, taking CENTURY SERB out on to BLACK INK. A. Pattillo was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of VIRAGE DE FORTUNE, G. Childs stated that the filly began well, however failed to show her customary early speed and failed to respond to his riding shortly after straightening. Trainer B. McLachlan was at a loss to explain the filly’s performance, however undertook to supply to the stewards the results of a full veterinary examination. A post-race veterinary examination of VIRAGE DE FORTUNE failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.
When questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted on IMPALER, B. Pengelly stated that he was instructed to have the horse handy, however he added that the horse was unable to muster early speed and settled back further than anticipated. Stewards noted his explanation.
Race 8: JACOB’S CREEK HERITAGE CLASS 6 H’CAP – 1200M
1st – Mr Sportsman 2nd – Marikal 3rd – Duke Sam 4th – Aim So High
LIMARKI (R. Mason) and MESMERISING (M. Cahill) came together on jumping away.
SIR SUCCESS (R. McMahon) was a little slow to begin.
CHASIN’ TAIL (A. Pattillo) was forced to race wide in the early stages.
Shortly after the start DANTIBES RHYTHM (K. Pope) had to be steadied when tightened for room between KISTADAN (D. Beadman) and CHASIN’ TAIL (A. Pattillo) which was taken in by TROPIQUALO (C. Spry). C. Spry was reprimanded.
SIR SUCCESS was inclined to overrace in the early stages and near the 800m had to be steadied off the heels of MESMERISING.
KISTADAN (D. Beadman), DEFECTING PLAYBOY (K. Wharton), TROPIQUALO and MY SON DAY were forced to race wide throughout.
Passing the 800m MY SON DAY (M. Price) was placed in restricted room between LILLABIDDY (J. Byrne) and TROPIQUALO (C. Spry), both of which shifted ground slightly.
Near the 700m MARIKAL (B. Pengelly) shifted out slightly, resulting in SIR SUCCESS having to be steadied.
Near the 600m AIM SO HIGH (S. Katsidis) had to be steadied when tightened for room by CHASIN’ TAIL which shifted in. A. Pattillo, the rider of CHASIN’ TAIL, was severely reprimanded.
Rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight SIR SUCCESS was held up for clear running.
MARIKAL (B. Pengelly) and MR SPORTSMAN (J. Bowditch) were held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.
Apprentice R. Mason, the rider of LIMARKI, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a), the careless riding being that near the 150m she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of DECIBEEL (G. Colless), resulting in DECIBEEL being tightened on to the rail and having to be checked. R. Mason’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 meetings, with the period of suspension to commence at midnight on Sunday, 14 May, and expire at midnight on Friday, 26 May 2006.
Apprentice M. Palmer, the rider of DUKE SAM, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a), the careless riding being that near the 150m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of MR SPORTSMAN, resulting in MR SPORTSMAN being taken in across the rightful running of SIR SUCCESS, which shifted in and made contact with CHASIN’ TAIL, resulting in SIR SUCCESS having to be checked. M. Palmer’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 meetings, with the period of suspension to commence midnight Thursday 18th May and expire at midnight on Friday, 2nd June 2006.
