1st – San Franfrisco 2nd – Banabolda 3rd – Sir Success 4th – Unite And Prosper

As J. Byrne was to be overweight, M. Rodd was substitued as the rider of SIR SUCCESS.
J. Byrne pleaded guilty to a charge under AR118C, in that he attempted to weigh out wearing a non-approved body protector. J. Byrne was fined $1000 and the body protector was confiscated.

GATOR (D. Beadman) was slow to begin.

FUNLOVE (D. Nikolic) jumped away awkwardly and shifted in, making contact with ABDICATION (B. Stanley).

Shortly after the start, A TAD COOL (L. Nolen) was tightened for room between CEFFYL (G Lynch), which shifted out, and STARS O’ GOLD (J. Bowditch), which shifted in slightly. In this incident, A TAD COOL lost its position.

Approaching the first turn, A TAD COOL was inclined to overrace.

Rounding the first turn, SAN FRANFRISCO (M. Morris) shifted out, inconveniencing EASY ON THE EYE (S. Galloway). SIR SUCCESS and CEFFYL, which were following, had to be steadied.

EASY ON THE EYE, SIRCOLO (Z. Purton), MANTLE (R. McMahon) and UDDER BRILLIANCE (J. Holder) were forced to raced wide for the majority of the event.


A swab sample was taken from 2nd placegetter BANABOLDA.

Race 2: Earlee Products Lord Mayor’s Group 3 Cup – 1615m
1st – Cog Hill 2nd – Spirit Of Tara 3rd – Villa Bled 4th - Drumbeater

VILLA BLED (D. Nikolic) and CELTIC TRIAL (S. Seamer) came together on jumping away.

SO DECISIVE (S. Baster), which was a little slow to begin, jumped outwards at the start, making contact with DEUXIEME (J. Bowditch).

Shortly after the start, SPIRIT OF TARA (D. Beadman) blundered.

SO DECISIVE commenced to hang out soon after the start and did so for the remainder of the event. Trainer C. Brown indicated that the horse was not comfortable racing in the clockwise direction and reported that the horse would now be spelled and returned to Victoria. A post-race veterinary examination of SO DECISIVE failed to reveal any abnormalities.

DANA’S KINGDOM (J. Ford) was forced to race wide in the early stages.

Near the 1200m, THE JONKER (J. Byrne) shifted out off the heels of PRINCESS DANI (B. Pengelly), forcing BEECAD (B. Stanley) 3 wide. BEECAD was then forced to race 3 wide for the remainder of the event.

Rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight, CLANG EDITION (G. Colless) was held up for clear running.

SPIRIT OF TARA (D. Beadman) was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.

Approaching the 300m, DANA’S KINGDOM (J. Ford) was disappointed for a run between BEECAD and THE JONKER (J. Byrne), both of which shifted ground. DANA’S KINGDOM was then unable to obtain clear running for some distance.

Near the 300m, CELTIC TRIAL (S. Seamer) was momentarily unable to gain clear running.

DEUXIEME (J. Bowditch) and LESTER THUNDERWING (A. Pattillo) were forced to race wide for the majority of the race.

A swab sample was taken from 2nd placegetter SPIRIT OF TARA.


Race 3: Glenlogan Park F&M Quality Listed Stakes – 1350m
1st – Countess Bathory 2nd – La Sizeranne 3rd - Freeroller 4th - Coincidental

Stewards permitted Z. Purton to ride ALLEGRO SPIRITOSO half a kilogram overweight as there was no other rider available.

The start was delayed due to LA SIZERANNE casting its off fore plate in the enclosure and having to be replated.

ARGYLE LASS (J. Ford) was slow to begin.

KEPOLA (J. Bowditch) jumped away awkwardly and shifted in, making contact wth VEE ROD (M. Morris).

Near the 1200m, LOYAL LAUREN (S. Baster) had to be steadied when tightened for room between DECIBEEL (A. Pattillo) and VEE ROD (M. Morris), which was taken in by JUST BROWSING (M. Carson). M. Carson, rider of JUST BROWSING, was severely reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in.

Near the 1300m, KEPOLA (J. Bowditch) had to be steadied when tightened for room between STAR OF ASIA (G. Colless), which shifted out slightly, and PENTELIKON (D. Nikolic), which was taken in by FREEROLLER (R. McMahon), which was taken in by COUNTESS BATHORY (K. Forrester). Jockey K. Forrester, rider of COUNTESS BATHORY, was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

WELCOME SITE (S. Drake) overraced in the early and middle stages.

VEE ROD (M. Morris) and LOYAL LAUREN (S. Baster) also raced wide in the middle stages.

LA SIZERANNE (M. Rodd) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight.


KEPOLA (J. Bowditch), FREEROLLER (R. McMahon), and PENTELIKON (D. Nikolic) were forced to race wide for the majority of the event.

A post race veterinary examination of STORM SIGNAL failed to reveal any abnormality and a swab sample was taken.


Race 4: XXXX Gold Champagne 2yo Group 2 Classic – 1200m
1st – Gold Edition 2nd – Ghetto Blaster 3rd – Silent Power 4th – Pure Energy

On jumping away, PURE ENERGY (S. Baster) was tightened for room between RING RING (B. Pengelly) and GOLD EDITION (G. Lynch), which jumped inwards.

Near the 1100m, THUNDERING GIRL (B. Stanley) and ANCIENT TITLES (J. Ford) came together.

THUNDERING GIRL overraced in the early stages.

DANS D’OR (G. Colless) was held up for clear running over the concluding stages.

SWEET AS (M. Rodd), VAN ROOYEN (J. Byrne) and RING RING were forced to race wide throughout.

Post-race veterinary examinations of VAN ROOYEN and GOLD EDITION failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Swab samples were taken from 2nd placegetter GHETTO BLASTER and 3rd placegetter SILENT POWER.


Race 5: www.hawkinsbloodstock.com 3yo Fillies Group 3 Doomben Roses – 2020m
1st – Gaze 2nd – Upstaged 3rd – Zenarta 4th - Allow

MARY MARVEL (B. Pengelly) was a little slow to begin.

At the winning post on the first occasion, MARY MARVEL became awkward on the heels of ALLOW (S. Katsidis). MARY MARVEL then continued to race ungenerously for some distance.

J. Ford, rider of ZENARTA, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the winning post on the first occasion he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of UPSTAGED (L. Nolan), which was taken in by GAZE (D. Beadman), resulting in GAZE having to be steadied and lose its rightful position outside of SUPER LACUNA. J. Ford was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence immediately and to expire at midnight, 3 June 2006. J. Ford was also fined the sum of $1000.

ABSOLOM (D. Nikolic) was forced to race wide in the early stages.

Approaching the 1200m, HAYIL’S MAGIC had to be steadied off the heels of MOLLY’S FOLLY (G. Lynch).

Nearing the 800m, TWO FINGERS (A. Pattillo) ran up on to the heels of CAOS CROSS (S. Seamer) and had to be steadied.

Approaching the 300m, ALLOW (S. Katsidis) shifted out around the heels of UPSTAGED (L. Nolan) to improve and in doing so bumped CAOS CROSS (S. Seamer).

Near the 100m, MAGIC HARMONY (M. Rodd) and CAOS CROSS were placed in restricted room between TWO FINGERS (A. Pattillo) and CHARVICKY (N. Callow), which was taken in slightly by VIETNAM (R. McMahon).

ZENARTA was forced to race wide in the early stages.

ZENARTA lost its near fore plate in running.

A post-race veterinary examination of ABSOLOM revealed the filly to be suffering from cardiac arrythmia. Trainer G. McDonald was advised that the horse must trial satisfactorily and provide stewards with a veterinary clearance for ABSOLOM, including the results of an endoscopic examination, prior to its next race start.

Swab samples were taken from 2nd placegetter UPSTAGED and 3rd placegetter ZENARTA.





Race 6: Darley BTC Group 3 Sprint – 1350m
1st – Hard To Catch 2nd – Amex 3rd – Consular 4th - Benedetti

BALLET SOCIETY (S. Seamer) and HISSY FIT (R. McMahon) were tightened for room on jumping away between PRINCESS MARGARET (M. Rodd) and TRIPLE PE (A. Pattillo).


R. Jones, rider of MISS POTENTIAL, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that near the 1300m he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of YELL (D. Beadman), which was taken in, making contact with DEVIL (B. Pengelly), which in turn was taken in, making contact with KING REX, which in turn shifted in and made contact with TOP MARC (S. Katsidis), resulting in the above horses being crowded. In this incident, D. Beadman, rider of YELL, was obliged to take hold of YELL to avoid the heels of MISS POTENTIAL. R. Jones was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 10 meetings.

R. Jones, rider of MISS POTENTIAL, was also found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 1100m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of BALLET SOCIETY (S. Seamer), resulting in S. Seamer, rider of BALLET SOCIETY having to take hold to avoid the heels of MISS POTENTIAL. R. Jones was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetintgs, to be served concurrently with the previously incurred suspension in this race, to commence at midnight 20 May, and to expire at midnight, 7 June 2006. R. Jones was also fined the sum of $1000.

Passing the 1200m, PROUDLY AGRO (Z. Purton) commenced to overrace on the heels of HARD TO CATCH for some distance and near the 800m had to be checked.

Near the 1150m, AMEX (G. Colless) was placed in restricted room to the inside of HISSY FIT.

At the 800m, PICADAY (J. Byrne) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of BALLET SOCIETY (S. Seamer). RA SUN (L. Nolan), which was following, had to be steadied.

CONSULAR (N. Callow) was held up for clear running from rounding the home turn until near the 250m.

PROUDLY AGRO was unable to gain clear running from rounding the home turn until approaching the 200m.

Shortly after straightening, MISS POTENTIAL (R. Jones) and BALLET SOCIETY (S. Seamer) were placed in restricted room between TRIPLE PE (A. Pattillo), which shifted out, and PROSECUTION (C. Spry), which shifted in slightly.

HISSY FIT (R. McMahon) was held up for clear running from shortly after straightening until near the 100m.

MAGIC MARVO (J. Ford) was also held up from the 350m until approaching the 100m, where the gelding shifted out, inconveniencing BALLET SOCIETY (S. Seamer).

BENEDETTI (S. Baster) was uanble to gain clear running in the early stages of the straight.

N. Callow, rider of CONSULAR, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 150m he allowed his mount to shift out, taking TRIPLE PE out on to MISS POTENTIAL, which had to be checked off the heels of PROSECUTION. N. Callow was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence immediately, and to expire at midnight, 3 June 2006. N. Callow was also fined the sum of $1000.

After passing the 300m, MISS POETENTIAL shifted out and bumped BALLET SOCIETY.

Near the 50m, PROSECUTION was momentarily inconvenienced on the heels of YELL (D. Beadman), which was taken in by HARD TO CATCH, which shifted ground under pressure.

PROSECUTION (C. Spry) YELL (D. Beadman) and DEVIL (B. Pengelly) were all forced to raced wide throughout.

A post-race veterinary examination of KING REX revealed the gelding had sustained lacerations over the off eye, outside the near fore canon and to the front of the near hind coronet.

Swab samples were taken from 2nd placegetter AMEX and 3rd placegetter CONSULAR.


Race 7: XXXX Gold Group 1 Doomben Cup – 2200m
1st – Above Deck 2nd – Octapussy 3rd – Roman Arch 4th – Ike’s Dream

VOUVRAY (L. Nolan) was tightened on jumping away between SUPER FRIEND (G. Lynch) and OCTAPUSSY (R. McMahon).

Near the 700m, BRAVE LANCER (D. Nikolic) shifted out and bumped RECLAIM (A. Pattillo), which shifted out and brushed ABOVE DECK (M. Zahra).

Near the 2000m, VOUVRAY and RECLAIM (A. Pattillo) were placed in restricted room by BAZELLE (G. Cooksley), which shifted in. G. Cooksley, rider of BAZELLE, was reprimanded.

Near the 1900m, RECLAIM ran on to the heels of BAZELLE and had to be steadied. In this incident, RECLAIM shifted in and made contact with the hind quarters of BRAVE LANCER (D. Nikolic).

Shortly after straightening, ROMAN ARCH (N. Callow) shifted out and bumped the hind quarters of VOUVRAY (L. Nolan).

Near the 300m, BRAVE LANCER was disappointed for a run between VOUVRAY and ABOVE DECK when both horses shifted ground.

Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, VOUVRAY was further tightened for room by MAHTOUM (J. Ford), which was taken in slightly by ROMAN ARCH (N. Callow). N. Callow, rider of ROMAN ARCH, was reprimanded.

A post-race veterinary examination of ROMAN ARCH revealed the gelding was sore in the off fore leg.

Swab samples were taken from 2nd placegetter, OCTAPUSSY and 3rd placegetter, ROMAN ARCH.

Race 8: Lyndhurst Stud BTC 3yo Group 3 Classic – 1350m
1st – La Montagna 2nd – Century Serb 3rd – Pasikatera 4th - Grecolo

BILLY RIPPER (J. Ford) was slow to begin.

GRECOLO (S. Seamer) jumped outwards at the start, making contact with BULLMORE (B. Pengelly).

FEELIN DANDY (A. Pattillo) jumped away awkwardly and shifted in, bumping MASTER DENIS (G. Colless).

Near the 1300m, LA MONTAGNA (S. Galloway), FABIARNA (J. Bowditch), FEELING DANDY (A. Pattillo) and MASTER DENIS (G. Colless) were all tightened for room between TERESCHENKO (D. Nikolic) and CENTURY SERB (J. Taylor), which hung out. In this incident, LA MONTAGNA lost its position.

Passing the 800m, MASTER DENIS (G. Colless) commenced to overrace and shifted out off the heels of FEELIN DANDY. A short distance later, DIAMONDSONDINSIDE (J. Byrne), which had improved to that horse’s inside, was momentarily tightened when MASTER DENIS shifted back in slightly.

STELLA JOY (S. Baster), PASIKATERA (J. Innes), HOLY LOVER (J. Holder) and STELLA JOY (S. Baster) were all forced to race wide throughout.

Stewards adjourned an inquiry into an incident at the 600m where RUMBIRD (P. Hammersley) had to be checked off the heels of DIAMONDSONDINSIDE.

Near the 400m, RUMBIRD had to be steadied when tightened for room between HOLY LOVER (J. Holder) and DIAMONDSONDINSIDE, which shifted out slightly.

Shortly after straightening, BILLY RIPPER had to be steadied off the heels of BULLMORE (B. Pengelly).

S. Galloway, rider of LA MONTAGNA, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that approaching the winning post he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of PASIKATERA, resulting in J. Innes, rider of PASIKATERA, having to check his mount. S. Galloway was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 12 meetintgs, to commence at midnight, 21.5.06 and to expire at midnight 11 June 2006. S Galloway was also fined the sum of $4,000.

Swab samples were taken from 2nd placegetter, CENTURY SERB, and 3rd placegetter, PASIKATERA.
