Race 1: Investment Finance Class 6 4yo & Up H’cap – 1615m
1st – Time And Dandy 2nd – Sovereign Dream 3rd – Experience 4th – Cannyopra
As B. Stewart was to be overweight, B. El-Issa was substituted as the rider of BRITISH STORM.
J. Taylor was dislodged from DANELAND when proceeding to the barriers. Both horse and rider were cleared to take their place in the field.
SILVER HALO (R. McMahon) jumped away awkwardly and shifted in, making contact with TIME AND DANDY (K. Yoshida).
DANELAND (J. Taylor) was tightened for room at the start between CANNYOPRA (S. Katsidis) and BOLD REASON (M. Palmer), which shifted out after jumping away awkwardly.
BUMPERGEE (J. Bowditch) was forced to race wide in the early stages.
When the pace eased near the 900m, BOLD REASON had to be eased off the heels of BUMPERGEE.
Passing the 700m, TIME AND DANDY (K. Yoshida) had to be steadied off the heels of FAIR ACE (G. Colless).
Near the 100m, BRITISH STORM (B. El-Issa) and JACKSON HILL (R. Plumb) came together.
FAIR ACE had a tendency to lay in for the majority of the event.
BRITISH STORM (B. El-Issa) was forced to race wide for the majority of the race..
Race 2: Peter Perrins Not Bad For 50! 3yo H’cap – 1615m
1st – Fort ‘N’ Won 2nd – Signal 3rd – So Step In Line 4th – Ancient Impulse
SIR CLANG, which was fractious and broke through the barriers and galloped for some distance, was declared a late scratching by stewards at 12.58 p.m. Subsequent to the event all monies invested on SIR CLANG were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 13 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 12 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets. Trainer A. Bailey was advised that he would be required to provide a barrier certificate for SIR CLANG prior to its next race start. G. Colless, who was dislodged in the barriers from SIR CLANG, was examined by the club’s doctor following this race and was cleared to fulfil his remaining engagements.
STONE PONY (R. Plumb) and STAY TRUE (B. El-Issa) were slow to begin.
MY CENTURION (J. Bowditch) jumped outwards at the start, making contact with FORT ‘N’ WON (S. Katsidis).
Rounding the first turn, MY CENTURION rang up on to the heels of ANCIENT IMPULSE (S. Seamer) and had to be steadied and shifted outwards. FORT ‘N’ WON, which was following, also had to be steadied. MY CENTURION was then obliged to race 3 wide for the remainder of the event.
When the pace steadied approaching the 1200m, STAY TRUE (B. El-Issa), ANCIENT IMPULSE (S. Seamer), MY CENTURION and FORT ‘N’ WON all had to be steadied.
Approaching the 700m, ANCIENT IMPULSE shifted out off the heels of SO STEP IN LINE (J. Byrne) and in doing so made contact with MY CENTURION. MY CENTURION held its position and as a result ANCIENT IMPULSE had to be steadied. STAY TRUE (B. El-Issa), which was following, had to be steadied as a consequence.
Shortly after straightening, MY CENTURION had to be steadied when tightened for room between ANCIENT IMPULSE, which shifted out to improve, and FORT ‘N’ WON, which laid in slightly. FORT ‘N’ WON had a tendency to lay in for the majority of the straight.
Race 3: Home Buyers’ Doomben Horseshoe 2yo H’cap – 1110m
1st – Pride Of Power 2nd – Key Bar Nights 3rd – San Rico 4th – Falontime
Due to a clerical error by the handicappers, KEY BAR NIGHTS was mistakenly declared as being allotted 54½ kilograms. In accordance with powers under AR11A, stewards corrected the error at 8.30 a.m. on Saturday, 9 December and reweighted the filly, which was having its first start in a race, to 54 kilograms.
FALONTIME (B. El-Issa) jumped inwards at the start, impeding YOUCANTSEEME (J. Bowditch).
KEY BAR NIGHTS (S. Katsidis) jumped away awkwardly.
VIRASANA (B. Stewart) and NUDE ETRUSCAN (G. Colless) came together at the start.
SAN RICO (S. Seamer), ELATE AND EXCITE (S. Scriven) and TRIBAL CHOICE (M. Cahill) raced wide throughout. ELATE AND EXCITE had a tendency whilst racing wide to hang out.
Near the 150m, KEY BAR NIGHTS was momentarily placed in restricted room inside NUDE ETRUSCAN (G. Colless), which was taken in by FALONTIME (B. El-Issa), which shifted in under pressure.
J. Taylor, rider of THUNDERBOLT, dropped his whip approaching the 100m.
B. Stewart, rider of VIRASANA, was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts right out to the finish of the race.
A post-race veterinary examination of TRIBAL CHOICE (M. Cahill) failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 4: Happy 60th Kevin Harrison Mode 3yo Fillies H’cap – 1200m
1st – Gold Edition 2nd – Sequential Charm 3rd – Lasoron 4th – Craiglea Charm
KIRRALEE QUEEN (K. Wharton),which broke through the barriers, was quickly recaptured, examined by the club’s veterinary surgeon and cleared to race.
BELLA HEART (J. Taylor) was tightened for room on jumping away between MISS GHATAAS (N. Jolly) and SEQUENTIAL CHARM (J. Holder), which shifted in after receiving a bump from CHARMANA STAR (R. McMahon).
PIRATE QUEEN (G. Colless) was slow to begin.
PARTYGOER (M. Price) was bumped on jumping away by SIODEE (S. Seamer), which jumped away awkwardly and shifted in.
Near the 900m, BELLA HEART (J. Taylor), which was racing ungenerously, had to be steadied off the heels of CHARMANA STAR (R. McMahon), which improved to the inside of the heels of CRAIGLEA CHARM (P. Mertens) where there was doubtful room. Apprentice R. McMahon, rider of CHARMANA STAR, was reprimanded for allowing his mount to improve where there was insufficient room.
BELLA HEART was inclined to race wide in the middle stages.
Near the 800m, CRAIGLEA CHARM (P. Mertens) had to be steadied off the heels of LASORON (J. Bowditch).
SIODEE (S. Seamer), BELLA HEART (J. Taylor) and LASORON (J. Bowditch) were forced to race wide for the majority of the event.
MISS GHATAAS (N. Jolly) was held up for clear running over the final 100m.
SEQUENTIAL CHARM lost its off fore plate in running.
Race 5: Business Finance NMW H’cap – 1110m
1st – Stylish Qualo 2nd – Mister De Bali 3rd – Waterford Glory 4th - Alternate
Trainer F. Adams was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for LIPINSKI by the prescribed time.
SHOVED OUT (S. Scriven) was tightened for room on jumping away between PEDRO’S TYCOON (N. Thomas) and STYLISH QUALO (J. Taylor), both of which shifted ground. A short distance later, SHOVED OUT attempted to buck. In this incident, the saddle shifted back on SHOVED OUT, placing S. Scriven at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event. Trainer M. Lakey’s representative, Mr J. Johnson, was advised that SHOVED OUT must trial to the satisfaction of the stewards prior to its next race start. A post-race veterinary examination of SHOVED OUT failed to reveal any abnormalities.
MISTER DE BALI (B. Stewart) jumped away awkwardly and shifted in, making contact with LUKE’S TURN (G. Colless).
WATERFORD GLORY (S. Galloway) was held up rounding the home turn and near the 100m had to be steadied off the heels of KISS ME FIRST (M. Price).
Shortly after straightening, RHYMENOREASON (B. El-Issa) had to be steadied off the heels of LIPINSKI (E. Dredge).
Near the 250m, LUKE’S TURN was momentarily eased to avoid the heels of MISTER DE BALI (B. Stewart), which shifted in. MISTER DE BALI continued to shift in and near the 100m, CONSIDER YOURSELF (M. Palmer) was momentarily inconvenienced.
CONSIDER YOURSELF (M. Palmer) and LUKE’S TURN were forced to race wide throughout the event.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of RHYMENOREASON, B. El-Issa stated that the gelding began fairly, however after taking a position towards the tail of the field, in his opinion the gelding never travelled comfortably when racing amongst other horses and was under pressure a long way from home. Trainer B. Baldwin stated that in his opinion the horse may not be entirely comfortable racing inside other horses. Other than that, Mr Baldwin was at a loss to explain performance today, however undertook to advise stewards should anything come to light with the horse in the days subsequent to the event. A post-race veterinary examination of RHYMENOREASON failed to reveal any abnormalities.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of STYLISH QUALO today as compared to its previous 2 starts, trainer Mr B. Kent advised that at its previous 2 starts the horse had drawn wide and had been forced to cover extra ground as a result. He further added that, in his opinion, STYLISH QUALO had been racing against a better class of horse than today’s event, and with the good alley he was of the opinion STYLISH QUALO would race well today. The explanation was noted.
Race 6: Equipment Funding H’cap – 2020m
1st – Diamondsondinside 2nd – Rash Promise 3rd – Finder Page 4th – Grand Lover
Trainer T. Green was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for PAY ME by the prescribed time.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, DIAMONDSONDINSIDE had to be steadied off the heels of RASH PROMISE (J. Bowditch).
ADAVALE HORNET (S. Apthorpe) raced wide in the middle stages.
J. Bowditch, rider of RASH PROMISE, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 600m he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of FLYING NIKITA (P. Mertens), resulting in FLYING NIKITA having to be checked. J. Bowditch was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 13 December, and to expire at midnight, 24 December 2006.
Shortly after entering the straight, FINDER PAGE (G. Colless) attempted to improve to the outside of MY CHINESE KING and made contact with GAME ON (S. Galloway). GAME ON then shifted back in, resulting in FINDER PAGE having to be momentarily steadied off the heels of MY CHINESE KING.
S. Katsidis, rider of DIAMONDSONDINSIDE, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 300m he permitted his mount to shift out to improve around the heels of RASH PROMISE, taking ADAVALE HORNET wider, resulting in MILADY CLANG, which was racing back and to the outside of ADAVALE HORNET, having to be checked to avoid that horse’s heels. S. Katsidis was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 13 December, and to expire at midnight, 24 December 2006.
Near the 100m, the whip of S. Galloway, rider of GAME ON, was accidentally knocked from his hand by the whip of J. Bowditch, rider of RASH PROMISE.
Close to the finish line, GRAND LOVER (S. Seamer) had to be steadied off the heels of DIAMONDSONDINSIDE.
Race 7: QRSE City Pacific Finance Group 3 Summer Stakes – 1200m
1st – Natural Destiny 2nd – Hard To Catch 3rd – Tornado Alley 4th - Enthusiast
Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reason for trainer M. Thexton failing to declare a rider for TORNADO ALLEY by the prescribed time.
SIR BREAKFAST (J. Holder) jumped away awkwardly.
Shortly after the start, TELLEM (M. Cahill) was placed in restricted room between FOXMORE (J. Warrington) and GRECOLO (S. Seamer), which was taken in by SIR BREAKFAST.
Approaching the 800m, DAMIGOS (B. Stewart), which was overracing, had to be steadied off the heels of ENTHUSIAST (S. Scriven).
MR ARISTOS (S. Galloway) overraced in the middle stages.
SON OF DANE (N. Jolly), which was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight, improved to the inside of RASMUSSEN (G. Colless) where there was doubtful room shortly after passing the 200m, and then had difficulty obtaining clear running for the remainder of the event.
Near the 100m, DAMIGOS (B. Stewart) had to be checked when tightened for room between TORNADO ALLEY (B. El-Issa), which shifted in slightly, and IMPALER (P. Mertens), which was taken out slightly by ENTHUSIAST (S. Scriven), which shifted out under pressure. Both B. El-Issa, rider of TORNADO ALLEY, and S. Scriven, rider of ENTHUSIAST, were admonished and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
TORNADO ALLEY (B. El-Issa) and STARLACTIC (R. McMahon) were forced to race wide throughout.
When questioned regarding the performance of STARLACTIC, trainer W. Lawson was at a loss to explain today’s performance. He advised stewards that the horse would undergo a full veterinary examination tomorrow and he would report the results to the stewards in the days subsequent to the event. A post-race veterinary examination of STARLACTIC failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 8: Happy Birthday Jessy Wright Class 6 Plate – 1350m
1st – Master Denis 2nd – Masai Pride 3rd – Our Private Jet 4th – Aim So High
DOONAN, which put its head down as the start was effected, failed to jump with the field and lost considerable ground. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, trainer H. Page made application for DOONAN to be declared a non runner. After taking evidence and viewing the official video footage, stewards were satisfied that DOONAN was afforded the opportunity of jumping with the field and therefore declared the horse a starter. Trainer H. Page was advised that DOONAN must trial satisfactorily in an official trial prior to its next race start.
MASAI PRIDE stood flatfooted as the start was effected. Trainer B. Guy was advsied that he would be required to provide a barrier certificate for MASAI PRIDE prior to its next race start.
OUR PRIVATE JET (M. Cahill) was forced to race wide early.
Near the 750m, AIM SO HIGH (S. Katsidis) had to be steadied when momentarily tightened for room by OUR PRIVATE JET (M. Cahill), which shifted in slightly. M. Cahill, rider of OUR PRIVATE JET, was reprimanded.
Near the 550m, AIM SO HIGH had to be checked when attempting a run in restricted room to the inisde of OUR PRIVATE JET, which was taken in slightly by MASTER DENIS (G. Colless). As stewards could not be satisfied thare was a run to the inside of OUR PRIVATE JET, they took no further action.
KISTADAN (S. Scriven) raced wide throughout.
