Race 1: L.J. Hooker Commercial Financial Services 3yo & Up F&M H’cap – 1350m
1st –Howgreenismyvalley 2nd – Gather 3rd – Gracemere 4th – Be Pacific
THORNTONIA (M. Price) was tightened for room between DASHINSKY (R. Plumb) and HOWGREENISMYVALLEY (J. Bowditch), which shifted in on jumping away. DASHINSKY then shifted in and brushed the hind quarters of GATHER (M. Cahill).
CHAR INNOCENT (D. Barron) jumped away awkwardly.
Near the 1000m, DASHINSKY had to be steadied to avoid the heels of WISHENDA (A. Spinks), which shifted in. A. Spinks, rider of WISHENDA, was reprimanded and advised to provide more clearance when crossing. A short distance after this incident DASHINSKY began to overrace and had to be steadied off the heels of WISHENDA. BE PACIFIC (D. Griffin) and SHARNE (R. McMahon), which were following, were inconvenienced. SHARNE was then obliged to race 3 wide for the remainder of the race.
Race 2: RFS Finance 3yo & Up CG&E Maiden H’cap – 1350m
1st – Well Of Souls 2nd – Fat Henry 3rd – Wind Gusts 4th – Triple Your Luck
TRIPLE YOUR LUCK, which was examined by the club’s veterinary surgeon at the barriers and found to have a small laceration over the near eye, was cleared to race.
CATCH THE COUGAR (K. Yoshida) jumped away awkwardly and missed the start.
On straightening, WELL OF SOULS (A. Spinks) shifted out to obtain clear running to the outside of PORT PEGASUS (G. Colless) and in doing so tightened the running of TRIPLE YOUR LUCK (J. Holder). A. Spinks, rider of WELL OF SOULS, was cautioned.
Near the 200m, CATCH THE COUGAR (K. Yoshida) was momentarily held up, having to switch around the heels of TRIPLE YOUR LUCK.
When taking a run between LEGAL SLEW (K. Wharton) and ATILLAS DANE (R. Plumb) near the 100m, TRIPLE YOUR LUCK shifted out slighlty and bumped the hind quarters of ATILLAS DANE.
TRIPLE YOUR LUCK was held up for clear running in the straight until inside the 100m.
SMART AND SUAVE (K. Pope) raced 3 wide without cover.
When questioned as to the disappointing performance of PORT PEGASUS, G. Colless stated that despite overracing near the 1000m the horse travelled well and had a nice run throughout however when asked for an effort on straightening the horse failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing. Trainer A. Bailey agreed that the horse’s performance was disappointing and indicated that he would recommend to the owners that the gelding’s current racing program be reviewed. A post-race veterinary examination of PORT PEGASUS failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.
Race 3: Complete Finance Brisbane 4yo & Up E&G H’cap n- 1200m
1st – Dodge Ball 2nd – Sydney George 3rd - Bearcountry 4th - Fantino
FANTINO (R. Plumb) and SYDNEY GEORGE (S. Seamer) came together on jumping away.
When questioned as to the disappointing performance of LONGHORN, G. Colless stated that the horse travelled well until the 500m however when asked for an effort failed to respond to his riding and did not finish the race off as expected. Trainer R. Dart also expressed his disappointment with the run and felt that the horse was somewhat agitated when parading. He added that he was also of the view that LONGHORN may be better off being brought back in distance. Mr Dart undertook to notify stewards of anything that may come to his notice in the days following the race that may have had some bearing on the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination of LONGHORN failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.
Race 4: Cooper Financial Solutions Class 3 Mares H’cap - 1200m
1st – Couples Of Three 2nd – She’s Rocking 3rd – Rock The Clock 4th – Junk In The Trunk
BIG BONE GAL (J. Holder) jumped away awkwardly.
JUNK IN THE TRUNK (K. Wharton) and COUPLES OF THREE (J. Jones) brushed on jumping away.
Race 5: Foundation Business Services Class 4 H’cap – 1350m
1st – Exorbitant 2nd – Young Lion 3rd – Matzumi 4th - Whatatune
Stewards have adjourned an inquiry into the late notification of rider for DROP OF HENNESSY to enable further investigations to be made at Trainers Service Centre.
Following the disappointing performance of GLOSSIEST, R. McMahon stated that the horse was inclined to pull hard when racing outside the leader however he agreed that the horse was disappointing and did not finish the race off as expected. Trainer J. Hawkes reported that the horse would now be sent for a spell.
A veterinary examination of DROP OF HENNESSY following the race failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 6: Howe Ford & Boxer 4-Year-Old & Up Class 3 H’cap - 1660m
1st – Palace Lover 2nd – Frisco Darling 3rd – Rising Success 4th – Star Council
TELETOR (G. Colless) and FRISCO DARLING (M. Cahill) were both slow to begin.
When the pace slowed leaving the 1100m, A CLOSE AFFAIR (D. Green) shifted out off the heels of FRISCO DARLING (M. Cahill).
Race 7: Suncorp Commercial Intermediaries Class 6 H’cap – 1040m
1st –Primal Impulse 2nd – Conrod Straight 3rd – Taabinga Lass 4th – Regal Event
SAINTS GLORY, which refused to proceed to the barriers, was withdrawn by stewards at 4.08 p.m. Following the late withdrawal, all monies invested on SAINTS GLORY were ordered to be refunded in full, and deductions of 12 cents in the dollar on the face value of win tickets, 15 cents in the dollar on the face value of place tickets applied to bets above the line. The connections of SAINTS GLORY were advised that SAINTS GLORY must trial satisfactorily before racing again.
Near the 900m, CRAIGLEA MISS (M. Morris), which was inclined to lay in, brushed the hind quarters of REGAL EVENT (M. Rice).
After leaving the 800m, REGAL EVENT (M. Rice) and CRAIGLEA MISS (M. Morris) again made contact when REGAL EVENT was inclined to lay out, and CRAIGLEA MISS (M. Morris) continued to lay in.
A routine veterinary examination of CONROD STRAIGHT failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 8: Commercial Brokers Australia 3yo & Up Class 3 Plate – 1660m
1st – Angel Girl 2nd – Rebounded 3rd – Rory’s Thunder 4th - Saggio
RORY’S THUNDER (A. Taylor) was tightened for room at the start between ALTA RIVA (J. Taylor), which jumped away awkwardly, and UNDER CONSTRUCTION (D. Griffin), which was taken out by REBOUNDED (M. Radecker).
Near the 700m, VALCONIC (S. Seamer) commenced to pull hard and had to be checked after improving on to the heels of REBOUNDED (M. Radecker). RORY’S THUNDER, which was following, appeared to clip the heels of VALCONIC (S. Seamer) and blundered.
RORY’S THUNDER (A. Taylor) was held up for clear running until inside the 200m.
