Race 1: Mitty’s Maiden Plate - 2060m
1st – Tails Are wagging 2nd – Starsky 3rd - Mi Amici 4th - Impartiality
TANAMI TRACKER (D. Barron) was slow to begin.
CHARDIYM (M. Hackett) and KOPPERBERG (K. Wharton) came together and brushed on jumping away.
CAROLINA’S BELLE (J. Bowditch) began awkwardly.
Approaching the winning post on the first occasion KOPPERBERG (K. Wharton), which had a tendency to overrace, had to be steadied off the heels of TAILS ARE WAGGING (G. Colless), which shifted in. As a consequence, IMPARTIALITY (S. Scriven), which was racing to the inside of KOPPERBERG, had to be steadied.
IMPARTIALITY (S. Scriven) was caught wide in the early stages of the event.
As the pace eased near the 1500m, STARSKY (B. Stewart) had to be steadied off the heels of TANAMI TRACKER, which shifted out, causing KOPPERBERG (K. Wharton) to be steadied.
G. Colless, rider of TAILS ARE WAGGING, was severely reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift out leaving the 400m when insufficiently clear of IZA COMIN’ (J. Byrne), which had to be steadied and shift out, resulting in MI AMICI (M. Du Plessis) having to be steadied.
TAILS ARE WAGGING (G. Colless), which was inclined to lay in under pressure over the final 200m, shifted in and brushed STARSKY (B. Stewart) on 2 occasions.
Approaching the 50m, TANAMI TRACKER laid in across the heels of MI AMICI (M. Du Plessis) and had to be steadied.
KOPPERBERG raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 2: XXXX Gold 2yo C&G Maiden H’cap - 1200m
1st – Agnes Dream 2nd – Faunius 3rd – Richart 4th – Passionate Stash
AURELIA ROAD, which was found to have blood in its mouth at the barriers as a result of a disloged tooth cap, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed to start.
TAYSMAN (P. Wolfgram) jumped awkwardly.
FAUNIUS (C. Whiteley) and ROYAL WATCH (D. Tanti) came together and brushed on jumping away.
GEMINI GEORGE (S. Drake) which was inclined to hang out for the majority of the event, shifted out near the 800m and bumped GAROUPE (S. Katsidis). A post-race veterinary examination of GEMINI GEORGE revealed the gelding to be shin sore in the off fore leg. Trainer G. Cornish was advised that he would be required to provide a veterinary clearance for GEMINI GEORGE prior to its next race start.
Leaving the 200m, TIMS IMAGE (T. Pannell) had to be steadied off the heels of STREET BY STREET (M. Squires), which was taken out by RICHART (J. Byrne).
STREET BY STREET (M. Squires) and MOUNTAIN POET (J. Taylor) were caught wide for the majority of the event.
Race 3: Carlton Draught 2yo M&M Maiden H’cap – 1200m
1st – Guissepino 2nd – Enconce 3rd – Visually 4th - Bougette
VISUALLY (J. Byrne) and WE’VE AN ANGEL (M. Kai) came together and bumped near the 900m.
LEICA DOVE (C. Spry) jumped awkwardly.
Race 4: Pacific Harbour Gold Club Maiden Plate - 1350m
1st – October Sky 2nd – Brave Sailor 3rd – Xaareal 4th – Snow Dane
OCTOBER SKY (S. Scriven) began awkwardly.
Shortly after the start, CREATIVE SOUNDS attempted to buck.
OCTOBER SKY (S. Scriven) was obliged to race wide over the final 800m of the event.
BEAUT NOISE (C. Spry) was held up for clear running on entering the straight.
KINGS BIRTHDAY (J. Taylor) had difficulty obtaining clear running for the majority of the straight.
BRAVE SAILOR (L. Fyfe) shifted in under pressure over the final 50 metres, which resulted in SNOW DANE (B. El-Issa) having to be steadied.
COOL EDGE (C. Small) raced wide for the majority of event.
Whe questioned regarding the poor performance of CREATIVE SOUNDS, G Colless was of the opinion that the horse may be feeling the effects of a previous leg injury. A post-race veterinary examination of CREATIVE SOUNDS failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer T. Whittington was unable to offer any excuse for the performance and was advised that CREATIVE SOUNDS must trial satisfactorily in an official barrier trial prior to its next race start.
Race 5: Jacob’s Creek Sparkling 3yo Class 3 Plate – 1650m
1st – Walk Of Fame 2nd – Millers Wheel 3rd – Ersilia 4th - Signal
As G. Colless was to be overweight on ERSILIA and IVOR SPECIAL (Race 8), riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet. G. Colless was fined the sum of $200.
SEQUENJAR (J. Taylor) was tightened on jumping away between MILLERS WHEEL (S. Scriven) and FAIRYTALE FORTUNE (D. Tanti), which shifted in.
KIRRALEE QUEEN (J. Jones) began awkwardly and shifted in, making contact with MILLERS WHEEL (S. Scriven).
Near the 1400m, XAAR ON ABSINTH (J. Powell) was tightened for room when racing on the inside of FAIRYTALE FORTUNE (D. Tanti), which shifted in.
Leaving the 700m, XAAR ON ABSINTH (J. Powell) and FAIRYTALE FORTUNE (D. Tanti) came together and bumped.
FEAR OF DEFEAT (J. Byrne) was caught racing 3 wide for the majority of the event.
Race 6: Lyndhurst Stud F&M Class 3 H’cap - 1350
1st – Never Miss 2nd – Amaranthine 3rd – Moonbi Nymph 4th - Felecia
MY FLIGHT (S. Katsidis) and STAR COUNCIL (D. Peisley) were tightened for room at the start between HAYIL STONE MISS (B. El-Issa) and VARGAS GIRL, both of which shifted ground.
STAR COUNCIL (D. Peisley) overraced in the early stages.
PIOUS PEARL (M. Du Plessis), which hung out from the 800m to near the 400m, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and found to have ulcers in its mouth. Trainer S. Dwyer was advised that he must produce a veterinary clearance for PIOUS PEARL prior to its next race start.
Near the 200m, MORE WHISKEY (S. Seamer), when under pressure, shifted out, which resulted in MY FLIGHT (S. Katsidis), which had improved to the heels of MORE WHISKEY, having to check and shift wider, which in turn caused PIOUS PEARL (M. Du Plessis) to be severely checked.
HAYIL STONE MISS (B. El-Issa) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 7: City Pacific Finance Class 5 H’cap - 1200m
1st – Junk Bond 2nd – Bangalow Blue 3rd – Altacia 4th – Brave Action
STELLAR PRINCE (G. Colless) and TUSCAN JAZZ (N. Thomas) came together on jumping away.
A short distance later, TUSCAN JAZZ had to be checked when tightened for room between FISSILE (M. Price), which was taken out by DANTIBES RHYTHM (J. Powell), and STELLAR PRINCE, which was taken in by BANGALOW BLUE (J. Jones).
Near the 500m, THE BREAKER (J. Bowditch) became unbalanced when racing to the inside of CLASSIC ALIBI (S. Katsidis), which shifted in.
ALTAICA (A. Taylor) and CLASSIC ALIBI (S. Katsidis) were caught racing wide for the majority of the event.
Race 8: Southbank Locksmiths CG&E Class 3 H’cap - 1350m
1st – Get It Off 2nd – Pass The Bubbly 3rd – Muscle Up 4th – Grand Corso
AGRIOUS which made contact with the barriers prior to being loaded, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.
GRAND CORSO (B. El-Issa) and RED ABERNANT (J. Jones) were tightened for room at the start between TWO SEASONS (J. Byrne) and IVOR SPECIAL (J. Bowditch), both of which shifted ground.
MAIZ SON (J. Taylor) was slow to begin.
Approaching the 1300m, BEE DUB (A. Taylor) had to be steadied off the heels of MR CLANG (M. Price), which shifted out.
Nearing the 800m, DIGGING DEEP (M. Du Plessis) had to be steadied off the heels of PASS THE BUBBLY (S. Galloway) ,which was taken in by ROAD TO HONOURS (J. Powell).
MUSCLE UP (S. Katsidis) was held up for clear running from on straightening until approaching the 200m.
IVOR SPECIAL, which was held up on straighening and in an endeavour to obtain clear running shifted out and bumped AGRIOUS (A. Pattillo) near the 200m.
PASS THE BUBBLY (S. Galloway) and DIGGING DEEP (M. Du Plessis) raced wide for the majority of the event.
J. Bowditch, rider of the 5th placegetter, IVOR SPECIAL, was fined $400 for failing to ride his mount right out to the finish of the race.
A swab sample was taken from the second-placegetter, PASS THE BUBBLY.
