Race 1: QR QUEENSLAND REDS 0MW LY H’CAP - 1615m
1st – Rags To Riches 2nd – Guerrouj 3rd – Diamond Sun 4th – Ostras
Stewards accepted trainer M. O’Meara’s explanation for the late notification of M. Morris as the rider of VIBRANT.
ALIFLY (B. El-Issa) and EASILY DONE (A. Taylor) were slow to begin.
ALIFLY was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight.
Race 2: QUEENSLAND RUGBY H’CAP 1200m
1st – Rapid Jacko 2nd – Jive Bandit 3rd – Jad 4th – Conquering Spirit
SHAKARA was a late scratching at 8:30 a.m. by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice.
OUR CHARLIEMAC (K. Banks) was slow to begin.
GOLD OMEGA (B. El-Issa) and RAPID JACKO (J. Bowditch) were tightened on jumping away between DULACCA DIAMOND (S. Seamer) and CASA CARDOSO (Matthew Palmer), both of which shifted ground.
Passing the 900m GOLD OMEGA threw its head in the air when being restrained off the heels of RAPID JACKO.
Approaching the 800m RAPID JACKO improved up on to the heels of JAD (J. Byrne) and had to be steadied.
AGNES DREAM (J. Holder) and JIVE BANDIT (A. Coome) raced wide throughout.
Near the 600m JIVE BANDIT had to be steadied after improving for a run between JAD and AGNES DREAM where there was doubtful room.
RAPID JACKO was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
Near the 150m CONQUERING SPIRIT (Michael Palmer) was impeded by GOLD OMEGA which shifted ground inwards.
When questioned regarding the performance of COURT AWARD, jockey N. Paine stated that in the early stages he was obliged to work harder than he would have liked in order to obtain a forward position. He added that after obtaining a position outside the leader the colt was under pressure a short distance later and failed to respond to his riding over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination of COURT AWARD failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 3: BALLYMORE H’CAP - 1010m
1st – Alternate 2nd - Instructed 3rd – Mini View 4th – In My Sights
MIGHTY VICTORY, which was kicked in the off hind cannon, suffered lacerations and bruising and was declared a late scratching at 1:15 p.m. by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice. On the announcement of correct weight, stewards ordered that all monies invested on MIGHTY VICTORY be refunded, with deductions of 4 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets and 5 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets.
SOCIALIST (K. Banks) was slow to begin.
PERSUADES (J. Bowditch) jumped away awkwardly and hampered KISTADAN (K. Forrester) which was a little slow to begin.
When questioned regarding the performance of SOCIALIST, jockey K. Banks stated that after being a little slow to begin, the horse in her opinion then never travelled throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination of SOCIALIST failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.
Stewards questioned jockey J. Bowditch in relation to his riding of PERSUADES, especially rounding the home turn when the eventual winner ALTERNATE (B. El-Issa) obtained a run to his inside. Jockey Bowditch stated that rounding the home turn his mount was under pressure and shifted out after being brushed on several occasions by ALTERNATE. Stewards noted his explanation.
Race 4: MAZDA AUSTRALIAN RUGBY CHAMPIONSHIP 2MW LY - 2020m
1st – Motivate 2nd – Ram’s Dream 3rd – Authoress 4th – Sir Sensible
WHEEL THE LEAD (K. Pope) was tightened on jumping away between SIR SENSIBLE (A. Pattillo) and COOL SCENE (M. Palmer) which shifted in.
Near the 500m SIR SENSIBLE shifted out and bumped THE REAL ROKOCOKO (J. Taylor).
Near the 300m SIR SENSIBLE was momentarily inconvenienced when attempting a tight run between FASTNESS (A. Coome) and THE REAL ROKOCOKO.
A post-race veterinary examination of MOSTA HOUSE (J. Holder) failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 5: THE IMAGETEC SOLUTIONS H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Stolit 2nd – Yass River 3rd - Felixtrinidad 4th – Ima Joker
PARTYGOER (M. Price) and BIONIC ROCK (K. Cunningham) came together on jumping away.
PAGAN COUNTY (J. Holder) was tightened on jumping away between FALCONTEN (K. Forrester) and WINAURA (A. Pattillo) which shifted out after beginning awkwardly.
Near the 700m PARTYGOER shifted out and bumped BIONIC ROCK.
YASS RIVER, BIONIC ROCK and COUNT HENRY (R. McMahon) raced wide throughout.
STOLIT (B. El-Issa) shifted ground outwards under pressure in the straight.
Inside the final 50m MR PROTECTOR (Matthew Palmer) was impeded by the tiring WINAURA.
Race 6: CLEMENTS RECRUITMENT H’CAP - 1350m
1st – Acceleration 2nd – Nobbys Beach 3rd – Nellie Got There 4th – Court Adjourned
Near the 900m MR JUBILEE (D. Peisley), which was overracing, had to be steadied off the heels of COURT ADJOURNED (J. Bowditch). MR JUBILEE then continued to overrace for some distance.
GET IT OFF (M. Bennett), PASS THE BUBBLY (S. Galloway) and CLEVERGAZE (A. Coome) raced wide throughout.
Near the 800m LINDMARK LOONEY (J. Holder) got its head in the air when being restrained.
Near the 500m LINDMARK LOONEY was placed in restricted room between COURT ADJOURNED and GET IT OFF which shifted in.
Near the 400m LINDMARK LOONEY, which was tiring, had to be steadied when tightened for room between COURT ADJOURNED, which shifted out slightly, and GET IT OFF, which shifted in. M. Bennett, the rider of GET IT OFF, was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
GET IT OFF lost its near hind plate in running.
Race 7: QR LIMITED H’CAP - 1110m
1st – Noble Gaze 2nd – Sequallan 3rd – Sir Monashee 4th – Stylish Qualo
SUUBIRD (Matthew Palmer) and NESSUNO (A. Pattillo) were slow to begin.
TORNADO ALLEY (A. Coome) and SINGLE ROSE (J. Bowditch) raced wide throughout.
Passing the 300m SINGLE ROSE shifted out to improve around the heels of TORNADO ALLEY, which was shifting out slightly, and in doing so made contact with NESSUNO. FOXMORE (J. Byrne), which was following, was inconvenienced.
Post-race veterinary examinations of BABINDA HALF (J. Taylor) and OCTOBER GREY (G. Palmer) revealed no abnormalities.
Race 8: OPTUS BUSINESS DIRECT 0MW H’CAP - 1200m
1st –Onalar 2nd – Consider Yourself 3rd – Magical Profit 4th – Fine Cheval
Stewards accepted trainer R. Heathcote’s explanation for the late notification of R. McMahon as the rider of JUNK BOND.
Due to personal reasons, N. Thomas was unable to fulfil his engagement on MISTER DE BALI and was replaced by D. Peisley.
JUNK BOND, which was found to be lame in the near foreleg, was declared a late scratching at 2:40 p.m. by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice.
NEDIYM’S IMAGE (A. Coome) and CANADIAN BUNNY (K. Forrester) came together on jumping away.
INDUSTRIAL FAN (M. Kai) was tightened on jumping away between GOLD RIMU (K. Cunningham) and FINE CHEVAL (S. Galloway) which shifted out.
Shortly after the start MAGICAL PROFIT (J. Holder) was placed in restricted room between DANCE HUNTER (J. Bowditch) and WOKANDI (Matthew Palmer) which shifted in.
GOLD RIMU and FINE CHEVAL raced wide throughout.
Apprentice K. Cunningham, the rider of GOLD RIMU, was reprimanded under AR. 137(a) for allowing her mount to shift in approaching the 800m when insufficiently clear, taking CONSIDER YOURSELF (J. Byrne) in on to NEDIYM’S IMAGE, which shifted in and as a result MISTER DE BALI (D. Peisley), which was inclined to lay out slightly, had to be steadied to avoid that horse’s heels.
Near the 700m MAGICAL PROFIT, which was overracing, shifted out off the heels of MISTER DE BALI and in doing so forced WOKANDI, ONALAR (B. El-Issa) and INDUSTRIAL FAN wider on the track.
Close to the winning post CRAIGLEA WARRIOR (M. Radecker), which improved up on to the heels of CONSIDER YOURSELF, had to be steadied.
When questioned regarding the performance of DANCE HUNTER, jockey J. Bowditch stated that his instructions were to lead if possible, however he took up a position outside the leader and the horse was under pressure prior to the home turn. Trainer L. Hatch’s representative Mr L. Dwyer stated that the horse had been working well leading into today’s event and the stable had expected a forward showing. He was further at a loss to explain the horse’s performance today. Mr Dwyer undertook to advise stewards in the days subsequent to the event should anything come to light that may explain the horse’s performance. A post-race veterinary examination of DANCE HUNTER failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.
