Race 1: NILSEN 2YO H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Jazz Heart 2nd – Tuscon Rain 3rd – Mr Mayfair 4th - Celerity

EXOLART was a late scratching at 8:35 a.m. on veterinary advice.

Stewards noted the explanation tendered by jockey D. Griffin regarding his failure to fulfil his engagement on TUSCON RAIN. S. Seamer was substituted as the rider of that horse.

TUSCON RAIN (S. Seamer) and SILVERN (J. Taylor) came together on jumping away.

JAZZ HEART (G. Colless) was slow to begin.

LA BELLA LUISA (K. Purdy), which jumped away awkwardly, was further impeded on jumping away between CELERITY (M. Palmer) and MY MAYFAIR (M. Kai), which shifted out.

Passing the 1000m IN BOLD FASHION (S. Drake) commenced to overrace.

Near the 900m LA BELLA LUISA, which was overracing, had to be steadied off the heels of MY MAYFAIR. LA BELLA LUISA continued to overrace for a short distance.

Rounding the home turn TUSCON RAIN shifted out to improve and in doing so made contact with SILVERN. As a result, SILVERN became unbalanced. S. Seamer was severely reprimanded under AR. 137(a).

A post-race veterinary examination of VERY POSH (W. Pearson) revealed the filly to be slightly shin sore in both forelegs. Trainer S. Jones was advised that he must produce a veterinary certificate before the horse’s next start.

A post-race veterinary examination of SALCANRO (R. McMahon) revealed the filly to be shin sore in the off foreleg. Trainer B. Guy was advised that he must produce a veterinary certificate before the horse’s next start.

Race 3: HASTIE H’CAP - 2140m
1st – Intheway 2nd – Fat Quarters 3rd – Cold Start 4th – Doug’s Mate

ART SUCCESS (M. Palmer) was slow to begin.

Following an inquiry into the running and handling of DOUG’S MATE, stewards issued a charge against apprentice M. Kai under AR. 135(b) and (c) in that he failed to give DOUG’S MATE full opportunity to win or obtain the best possible place in the field by allowing that mare to lose ground from the second-last horse ART SUCCESS between the 1800m and the 800m when it was reasonable and permissible for him to have the mare positioned on the back of ART SUCCESS, thus allowing him to have DOUG’S MATE at least 6 lengths closer than it was. After taking into account apprentice Kai’s plea of not guilty and submissions made by him and his master trainer M. Nolan, stewards found apprentice Kai guilty and suspended his licence to ride in races for a period of 6 weeks, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Thursday, 14 February, and expire at midnight on Thursday, 27 March 2008. A post-race veterinary examination of DOUG’S MATE revealed no abnormality. A swab sample was taken from DOUG’S MATE.

Rounding the home turn RASH PROMISE (S. Scriven) and MASTER STRATEGY were momentarily obliged to race in restricted room to the inside of LADY’S OPINION (G. Colless).

RASH PROMISE was momentarily held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.

A post-race veterinary examination of LADY’S OPINION (G. Colless) revealed the mare to be suffering from a mild case of heat stress.

CHARVICKY (C. Reith) jumped in at the start and made contact with POSSUM (A. Spinks) which in turn shifted in and made contact with CURBYOURENTHUSIASM (D. Griffin).

Passing the 300m CURBYOURENTHUSIASM was accidentally struck over the head by the whip of K. Wharton, the rider of OBI PARK PRINCESSE.

Passing the 200m CURBYOURENTHUSIASM, which had been obliged to race in restricted room between OBI PARK PRINCESSE and LAILA’S DREAM (K. Purdy), had to be steadied when LAILA’S DREAM shifted in. K. Purdy was severely reprimanded under AR. 137(a).

Close to the finishing line CRAIGLEA CHARM (G. Colless) shifted in under pressure and made contact with SWEET AS. (M. Palmer).

A post-race veterinary examination of CLASSIC ALIBI (M. Kai) failed to reveal any abnormalities.

After taking evidence from jockeys R. Wiggins (FASNATIC) and B. Pengelly (BEN’S THE BOSS), the inquiry was adjourned to enable both R. McMahon and S.
