Race 1: OWNIT HOMES H’CAP - 1615m
1st – Armstrong Jones 2nd – All Our Way 3rd – D’Elcatraz 4th – Uncle Jan

JAZZ HEART (S. Scriven) faltered on jumping away.

KINSMATE (B. El-Issa) was slow to jump.

CHARVICKY (O. Turpin), which was a little slow to jump, was tightened between D’ELCATRAZ (K. Pope) and UNCLE JAN (J. Byrne), which shifted in.

BARCLAYS (J. Taylor) was caught three wide rounding the first turn and raced three wide for the remainder of the event.

When questioned as to JAZZ HEART being held up in the straight, S. Scriven stated that he had considered taking a run to the inside of ALL OUR WAY (N. Paine) on straightening, however ALL OUR WAY was laying in at the time and he therefore elected to pursue a run between D’ELCATRAZ and BARCLAYS but that run did not eventuate and he was held up for clear running.

Race 2: TRILBY MISSO QTIS H’CAP - 1350m
1st – Captain Sonador 2nd – Startlilng Pleasure 3rd – Princess Qualo 4th - Spiffing

CAPTAIN SONADOR (R. Goltz) jumped away awkwardly.

BLUE ALI (B. El-Issa) was a little slow to jump.

Near the 1200m SURF’S UP (S. Katsidis) was cramped for room between DIENEKES (D. Tanti) and PRINCESS QUALO (B. Pengelly), which was inclined to shift in.

SPIFFING (S. Seamer) was inclined to overrace in the early and middle stages.

PRINCESS QUALO, CLEATS (J. Taylor) and GRAND RECEPTION (C. Reith) all raced wide in the middle stages.

When questioned as to the disappointing performance of SURF’S UP, S. Katsidis explained that he had been instructed to race the horse closer to the lead if possible today, however the horse again began awkwardly and near the 1200m seemed reluctant to hold its position when racing in restricted room and settled further back than anticipated. He added that he felt SURF’S UP was also disadvantaged by the slow early pace and may be better suited racing closer to the lead in a faster run race and that the horse did not finish the race off today as expected and on face value appeared somewhat disappointing. Trainer B. Hill agreed SURF’S UP was disappointing and would monitor the horse following the race to see how it pulled up and he may recommend to the owners that the horse be given an ease-up. A post-race veterinary examination of SURF’S UP failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 3: MARKINSON H’CAP - 1350m
1st – Intheblack 2nd – Deception Bay 3rd – Spirito Volante 4th – Savanna La Mar

INTHEBLACK (M. Speers) jumped away awkwardly and missed the start.

DECEPTION BAY (S. Scriven) and SHIFTEMAN (B. Pengelly) came together at the start.

INNERSPHERE (B. El-Issa) jumped in at the start and made contact with SPANISH KISS (K. Forrester).

Near the 800m MILLERS WHEEL (S. Katsidis) was cramped when racing in restricted room between SAVANNA LA MAR (D. Griffin) and DECEPTION BAY, which was taken in momentarily by SPANISH KISS.

DECEPTION BAY and SPANISH KISS raced wide for the entire event.

MEDESANO (J. Byrne) raced awkwardly rounding the home turn on the heels of SURETY (M. Cahill).

SAVANNA LA MAR and TOCAPITALIZE (L. Rolls) were held up in the early stages of the straight.

INNERSPHERE was inclined to lay in rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight.

On straightening SHIFTEMAN was held up for clear running until near the 200m.

Near the 100m MEDESANO, which was inclined to shift ground, had to be eased away from the heels of DESERT HAYIL (A. Pattillo).

Race 4: GREG GRANT H’CAP - 1010m
1st – Monashee Dancer 2nd – Acquired 3rd – Kelly 4th - Monashee Knight

PUB TORQUE (J. Wood) jumped away awkwardly.

BRAEBROOK (S. Katsidis) was slow to jump.

CARDIO (M. Speers), HURL (J. Byrne) andFIAMORE (D. Craven) raced wide throughout.

Stewards inquired into an incident approaching the 800m where ACQUIRED (B. El-Issa) appeared to lose its position when racing in restricted room inside of PUB TORQUE and MONASHEE DANCER (A. Pattillo). After hearing initial evidence, A. Pattillo was charged with careless riding by permitting his mount to shift in when not clear of PUB TORQUE causing it to be inconvenienced and taken in on to ACQUIRED, causing ACQUIRED to relinquish its position. After hearing further evidence from B. El-Issa and apprentice J. Wood, the charge of careless riding was not sustained as stewards were not satisfied that A. Pattillo was entirely responsible for ACQUIRED losing ground as that mare appeared to overreact in the situation and A. Pattillo was given the benefit of the doubt.

Passing the 600m MYAGI (G. Geran) had to be eased off the heels of KING HUNTER (M. Radecker) when the pace steadied.

A post-race veterinary examination of PUB TORQUE failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 5: RAY WHITE H’CAP - 2020m
1st - Crossthestart 2nd – Hey Elvis 3rd – Regal Castanea 4th - Scattergun

CROSSTHESTART (J. Byrne) jumped away awkwardly, shifted in and bumped YIELD CURVE (O. Turpin).

LA MARIANNE (J. Taylor) jumped away awkwardly.

YIELD CURVE was caught three wide rounding the first turn and raced three wide for the majority of the event.

On the finish line LEGENDARY MAN (B. Pengelly) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of REGAL CASTANEA (D. Griffin).

HEY ELVIS bled from both nostrils. As HEY ELVIS had bled for a 2nd time, a life ban from racing in Australia was imposed. A swab sample was taken from HEY ELVIS.

Race 6: BDO KENDALL QTIS H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Zero Rock 2nd – Lilleelavee 3rd – Dr Barnard 4th – Plain Magic

Trainer J. Lyons was fined $100 under LR. 70 for failing to declare C. Reith as the rider of DRENALIN by the prescribed time. After accepting the late engagement, C. Reith was unable to make the weight on DRENALIN and was replaced by K. Forrester. C. Reith was fined $200 under AR. 120(b).

Trainer D. Kelly was fined $100 under LR. 70 for failing to declare D. Tanti as the rider of STRUMMING by the prescribed time.

STRUMMING was a late scratching at 3.35 p.m. when the horse dislodged D. Tanti travelling to the barriers. Following the late withdrawal of STRUMMING, all monies invested on the horse were ordered to be refunded in full, with deductions of 3 cents in the dollar on the face value of win and place tickets to apply.

HEZA FLASHMAN (K. Yoshida) jumped awkwardly.

HIGH ROLL’N WOMAN (O. Turpin) jumped awkwardly and shortly after the start was bumped heavily by SPANISH FLING (M. Radecker), which was taken in by LIFEBUOY (S. Seamer). HIGH ROLL’N WOMAN lost ground as a result of heavy contact in this incident.

B. Stewart, the rider of DADDYS LITTLE GIRL, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that approaching the 800m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of SPANISH FLING, causing that horse to become unbalanced, resulting in the filly shifting out and making heavy contact with the hind quarters of LIFEBUOY, which became unbalanced. B. Stewart’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 meetings, to commence at midnight on Wednesday, 29 July, and expire at midnight on Friday, 7 August 2009.

Leaving the 100m STEAL THE CASH (J. Taylor) appeared to shy at the whip of S. Katsidis (LILLEELAVEE) and shifted out abruptly, forcing DR BARNARD (N. Seymour) out on to SHOWIT (A. Pattillo), which had to be eased when coming into contact with FURY (N. Paine), which in turn had to be steadied off the heels of DRENALIN (K. Forrester).

Stewards questioned apprentice O. Turpin and trainer A. Bailey as to the performance of HIGH ROLL’N WOMAN which seemed somewhat reluctant to travel in the early stages and raced some distance back from the second-last horse. O. Turpin stated that the filly had received a heavy bump on jumping away and as a result seemed somewhat reluctant to race at that time in the race. Trainer A. Bailey stated that due to a breathing problem he had gained approval for the Cornell collar by trialling the horse satisfactorily on at least two occasions, however he felt HIGH ROLL’N WOMAN may still be becoming accustomed to racing with it and was reluctant to travel in the early stages. Trainer A. Bailey indicated that the filly may be looking for further in its races. The explanation was noted.

Race 7: MONTROSEACCESS OWNIT HOMES H’CAP - 1350m
1st – Morning Colours 2nd – Cocktail Supreme 3rd – Public Nuisance 4th – Steel Lips

Approaching the 1200m MASTER DENIS got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of PUBLIC NUISANCE (M. Cahill).

Making the first turn STEEL LIPS had to be steadied off the heels of ALBERT CADABRA (L. Rolls) and shifted out taking BITABIFF (S. Katsidis) wider on the track. FELIXTRINIDAD (B. Stewart), which was following, was hampered as a consequence.

STEEL LIPS and BITABIFF raced three wide in the middle stages.

Apprentice J. Wood, the rider of STEEL LIPS, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that leaving the 100m he permitted his mount to shift out, resulting in IN REHEARSAL (J. Byrne) having to be checked when coming into contact with PUBLIC NUISANCE. J. Wood’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 meetings, to commence at the expiration of the suspension incurred at the ITC meeting on 24 July 2009, being from midnight on Sunday, 2 August, to midnight on Friday, 14 August 2009.

Race 8: OPTIMUM RECRUITMENT H’CAP - 1200m

Trainer J. Wallace was fined $300 for presenting HIS BOY ELROY to race with incorrect gear.

STOLIT (M. Hughes) was tightened shortly after the start between MR STANDFAST (S. Seamer) and MICHELLE CAFEA (O. Turpin), which shifted in and away from HEART (L. Rolls).
