Connections of DRUMSHAMBO advised stewards that the horse would be ridden closer to the lead if circumstances permit.
Stewards sought an explanation from jockey G. Colless, rider of ART SUCCESS, in respect of the riding tactics employed today on the horse. G. Colless stated that the gelding began well from the barriers and approaching the winning post on the first occasion he attempted to take up a position behind DRUMSHAMBO (L. Cassidy) one off the rail, however was unable to do so when YIELD CURVE improved to his inside. C. Colless added that he was obliged to race 3 wide and felt it was in the horse’s best interests to allow it to improve forward and take up a position in the lead. Stewards accepted the explanation.
An inquiry will be opened into the reasons for C. Reith being dislodged from ONALAR near the 300m. C. Reith was transported to hospital to undergo x-rays to his right leg. Riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.
CROWNING FORCE (S. Apthorpe) raced wide throughout.
Race 2: Urban Events QTIS 2yo 600 H'cap – 1010m
1st – Military Rose 2nd – Starstreamed 3rd – Devinardi 4th – Wild Promises
TOUGH LUCK (M. Hellyer) and STARSTREAMED (B. Pengelly) were a little slow to begin.
MILITARY ROSE (G. Colless) jumped away awkwardly.
WILD PROMISES (B. Stewart) jumped inwards at the start, making contact with BRODENBRI (R. McMahon), resulting in BRODENBRI (R. McMahon) shifting in, tightening the running of TOUGH LUCK (M. Hellyer), which had to be steadied.
Shortly after the start, BRODENBRI laid in, resulting in STARSTREAMED having to be steadied from the heels of BRODENBRI.
COLOUR BLUE (P. Hammersley) laid out rounding the home turn.
B. Pengelly, rider of STARSTREAMED, reported that the horse was a little slowly away and shortly after the start he was compelled to take hold of his mount when BRODENBRI shifted in forward of him. B. Pengelly added that the horse overraced rounding the first turn and in the straight he was unable to ride the horse out as he normally would due to its tendency to shift outwards.
Race 3: Powertec Electrical Solutions QTIS 3yo H'cap – 1615m
1st – Sanderson 2nd – Dark Knight 3rd – Silver Trump 4th – Dusty’s Felt
SILVER TRUMP (J. Taylor) was slow to begin.
TITANIUM ROCK (B. Pengelly) jumped away awkwardly.
Near the 800m, TITANIUM ROCK got its head up in the air and overraced for a short distance.
Stewards sought an explanation from rider K. Banks in regards to the seemingly poor performance of LISTEN SON. K. Banks explained that the horse raced very strongly for the first 600m of the event and felt that this may have had an effect on its finishing effort. K. Banks further added that LISTEN SON had pleased in its trackwork leading up to the event, however in her opinion the horse had come to the end of its preparation. Connections informed stewards that the horse would now be sent for an immediate spell.
Trainer M. Webb reported that in consideration of TITANIUM ROCK’s performance today he would send the horse for a spell and recommend to the owners that it be gelded.
Stewards sought an explanation from rider R. McMahon in respect of the tactics he employed on CAPTAIN CLAYTON today, which resulted in the horse settling further back than anticipated. R. McMahon stated that he had been instructed to ride the horse from a rearward position as it had displayed a tendency at its most recent starts to overrace when ridden forward from the barriers. Stable representative for trainer Mr R. Heathcote confirmed the instructions. Stewards adjourned the matter to enable Mr Heathcote to be present. A post race veterinary examination CAPTAIN CLAYTON failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Subsequently, connections requested a further examination as the horse had been coughing and the veterinary surgeon reported that CAPTAIN CLAYTON was showing signs of the onset of a possible viral infection.
Stewards sought an explanation from P. Hammersley in regards to the performance of AFRICAN LION. P. Hammersley stated that the horse travelled comfortably just behind the leaders and approaching the home turn was momentarily impeded for clear running, however once he as able to put the horse into clear running it failed to respond to his riding and proved very disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of AFRICAN LION failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Stewards sought an explanation from jockey S. Katsidis regarding the tactics he employed on DUSTY’S FELT today whereby the horse settled closer to the lead than it had at its most recent starts. S. Katsidis stated that, in his opinion, there was a distinct lack of speed in the race other than LISTEN SON, and he felt it was in the horse’s best interests to have it positioned close to the lead if he did not have to unduly pressure DUSTY’S FELT to be there. The explanation was noted.

Stewards sought an explanation from G. Colless in regard to the disappointing performance of CORNWALL PARK. He stated that the horse travelled comfortably in a good position just off the speed and leaving the 500m he shifted wider on the track in order to improve his position. G. Colless added that the horse accelerated for a short distance rounding the home turn however commenced to tire midway into the straight and proved very disappointing. Trainer A. Bailey was unable to offer any excuses for the performance of CORNWALL PARK and advised that he would now spell the gelding. A post-race veterinary examination of CORNWALL PARK revealed the gelding to be slightly distressed.
Stewards sought an explanation from R. Wiggins, rider of LOVES A CHALLENGE in respect of the gelding’s performance today. R. Wiggins stated that the tempo of the race did not suit LOVES A CHALLENGE and added that he was held up at a vital stage of the race on the home turn on the heels of DUBAI OASIS and to the inside of SEESAWING. R. Wiggins further stated that in his opinion the horse was better suited to a larger track. A post-race veterinary examination of LOVES A CHALLENGE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

SCUDERIA laid in throughout the race.
WOORIM (L. Cassidy) was forced to race 3 wide without cover throughout the race.
Stewards sought an explanation from J. Taylor, rider of EDDIE RAPIDO, in respect of his apparent failure to take a run to the inside of ALBERT CADABRA (G. Colless), which appeared available to him leaving the 150m. J. Taylor stated at this stage of the race EDDIE RAPIDO was only making ground slowly and as it was a tight run to the inside of ALBERT CADABRA, he did not feel that EDDIE RAPIDO was travelling well enough to take advantage of a tight run. J. Taylor added that he was also concerned ALBERT CADABRA may shift in and therefore angled to the outside in order to obtain clear running. After considering the evidence, stewards advised J. Taylor that, in their opinion, he had erred by failing to attempt a run to the inside of ALBERT CADABRA near the 150m. He was also cautioned for shifting out when not sufficiently clear, causing SCUDERIA to be steadied approaching the 100m.

R. Wiggins added that he obtained a position 3 wide behind MAIN VEIN and the horse travelled well. R. Wiggins further added that rounding the home turn he was forced to take hold of MONASHEE WARRIOR to avoid the heels of the tiring MAIN VEIN and shift very wide on the track. R. Wiggins stated MONASHEE WARRIOR finished the race off well and would be improved by the run.
MAIN VEIN compounded rounding the home turn and was retired from the race near the 200m. A post-race veterinary examination of MAIN VEIN revealed the horse to have bled from both nostrils, and connections were advised that the horse would be barred from racing for a period of 3 months.
M. Hellyer, rider of ZAHAS PRIDE, explained that whilst the horse was not the best to begin he was able to take up its customary position in the lead and the horse travelled well through the early and middle stages of the race. S. Katsidis, rider of STRAT’S FLYER, explained that he had been instructed to position the horse 4th or 5th, however the gelding was anchored by its big weight in the early stages and as a result was unable to take up a position close to the lead. He added that the horse travelled well despite its big weight and pleased him in the way it finished the race off.
J. Taylor, rider of VOCALIC, reported that the pattern of the race did not suit the horse in that the race developed into a sprint home today.
Stewards sought an explanation from G. Colless, rider of RASMUSSEN, as to the reason for RASMUSSEN moving away from the fence rounding the home turn, thereby allowing HEART OF THE CITI to obtain a run to its inside. G. Colless stated that RASMUSSEN commenced to lay out when he allowed it more rein passing the 500m and did not feel it was in his horse’s best interests to restrain it in order to hold a position on the fence as it is a free-running horse.
