In the early stages, TEDDY BARE had a tendency to pull and get its head up.
Near the 400m, CROWNING FORCE (B. Stewart) was steadied to avoid the heels of SPECTACULAR PIC, which shifted out in an endeavour to go forward.
About the 100m, PYRAMIDS and REBOUNDED (M. Radecker) brushed due mainly to REBOUNDED shifting out.
SPECTACULAR PIC lost its off hind plate in running.
Race 2: Darley Open H'cap - 1010m
1st – Conquering Queen 2nd – Monashee Dancer 3rd – Baqaba 4th – Je Ne Sais Pas
Mr T. Edmonds, the Queensland representative for trainer J.P. Thompson, was reprimanded for presenting CONQUERING QUEEN to the enclosure with incorrect gear.
At about the 200m, BAQABA (R. McMahon), which was finishing the race off nicely, shifted out to go forward and in doing so bumped JE NE SAIS PAS (S. Seamer), resulting in that horse becoming momentarily unbalanced. R. McMahon, rider o BAQABA, was reprimanded and told he must exercise far more care than this when shifting ground in future.
J. Taylor, rider of SHAKEVA, explained that he had been asked today to ride the horse with some cover if possible. He said in the early stages he did endeavour to take up a position behind CONQUERING QUEEN but was unable to do so and felt in the circumstances he had no alternative but to let SHAKEVA run along and take up a position on the hind quarters of MONASHEE DANCER.
Race 3: Glenlogan Park 1MW H'cap - 1200m
1st – Ulladulla 2nd – Mr Nappy 3rd – Guru 4th -Seconde
Prior to the race, trainer K. Schweida reported to stewards that the stable was of the opinion that there may be a lack of speed in today’s race and from the somewhat difficult gate the intention was to ride ULLDULLA forward and if possible to lead. Before today’s program commenced, an announcement was made to this effect over the public address system on several occasions.
At no stage in the straight was CRAIGLEA FALCON able to obtain clear running and as a consequence the horse was not properly tested out by jockey K. Wharton as he normally would.
G. Colless, rider of MR NAPPY, explained that when ULLDULLA went hard early he decided to take a sit. He said that the horse on straightening was momentarily held up and then to obtain clear running had to bustle his way through. G. Colless added that he did think that MR NAPPY may be better able to work into the race on the outside.
Race 4: Sita Environmental NMW H'cap – 1615m
1st –Penny Louise 2nd – White Pho 3rd - 4th – Lake George
Trainer L. Mayfield-Smith was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for WHITE PHOSPHORUS by the prescribed time.
Following this race, GLASGOW TOWN, the 6th placegetter, was disqualified under AR143(a) after jockey M. Speers weighed in in excess of half a kilogram under his declared riding weight. At a subsequent inquiry, M. Speers was fined $500.
PEA EYE CEE (C. Munce) and PENNY LOUISE (J. Wood) blundered on jumping away.
From the difficult gate, LAKE GEORGE (J. Byrne) was steadied after the start to take a position towards the rear, however was obliged to race wide for most of the race.
When PEA EYE CEE commenced to tire passing the 600m, LAKE GEORGE, which was trailing, became awkwardly placed on that horse’s heels and was obliged to shift ground to its outside to improve forward. As a consequence, SIR ROSELAND (C. McIver) and MORE ON THE TOE (J. Holder) were forced wider on the track.
YUKETAN (J. Kropp) raced wide throughout the race.
A post-race veterinary examination of SIR ROSELAND, which compounded after racing wide, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
A post-race veterinary examination of PEA EYE CEE revealed the gelding to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer B. Guy was advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance, including the results of an ECG for the horse. PEA EYE CEE would also be required to trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.
Race 5: Cleanevent QTIS 2yo H'cap - 1010m
1st –Sky Effort 2nd – Jantzen 3rd – Reflection Of Jade 4th - Banderin
Connections advised that from the wide draw, DE LAGO BLOOD would be positioned back in the field. The horse was ridden accordingly.
BANDERIN (A. Spinks) and SKY EFFORT (M. Palmer) made contact on jumping away.
SEDUCTIVE GREY (C. McIver) was a little slow to begin.
For some distance after the 200m, BANDERIN (A. Spinks) had difficulty obtaining clear running on the inside of SEDUCTIVE GREY (C. McIver).
At about the 100m, BINGO ROSE (S. Seamer) had to be checked and change course abruptly to avoid the heels of CRYZLAR (M. Palmer), which was giving ground.
SKY EFFORT (M. Palmer) raced greenly throughout.
C. Munce stated that JAMANDTOAST (C. Munce), which was having its first race start today, was very green when amongst horses. He said that the filly only began fairly and because of this he got a little further back than he would have wished. He added that JAMANDTOAST did make some ground and would obviously benefit from today’s outing.
G. Colless, rider of DE LAGO BLOOM, stated that this preparation the filly has had 2 trials but has not been running on as hoped. Today from a very difficult gate his intention was always to go back and hope that DE LAGO BLOOM closed off the race. He stated that from about the first corner he was in difficulty and had to start riding DE LAGO BLOOM along in an endeavour to keep in touch, but she did not respond as anticipated, and although inconvenienced a little in the straight by BINGO ROSE, in all the circumstances of today’s race this was of little consequence. The veterinary surgeon reported that a post-race examination of DE LAGO BLOOM revealed the filly to have sustained a small laceration to its off hind pastern.
Race 6: Race-Tech Australia 3yo Fillies H'cap - 1350
1st – Bella Sirena 2nd – Alberton Park 3rd – Pinpoint Accuracy 4th – Hallmark Star

When the gates opened, ACCOUNTING (C. Munce) stood flatfooted and lost a lost of ground. Following the race, Mr T. Edmonds, Queensland representative for trainer Mr John Thompson, were advised that should ACCOUNTING perform similarly again, action may be taken against it.
TIER (J. Holder) was held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight on the heels of the tiring CAMPHOR (M. Palmer).
Just on straightening, HALLMARK START (J. Byrne) was briefly held up.
Near the 100m, TIER shifted out when endeavouring the secure clear running and made contact with KORANOVSKY (K. Banks).
When under pressure over the concluding stages, BEVAGNA (M. Hughes) was inclined to get its head on the side and laid out.
Approaching the winning post, TIER (J. Holder), which was closing the race off nicely, had to be steadied when crowded for room between SUNSHINE ANGEL (R. Wiggins), which shifted in slightly, and FEMINA FASHION (B. Stewart), which shifted out. In all the circumstances, no direct action was taken, however R. Wiggins, rider of SUNSHINE ANGEL, and B. Stewart, rider of FEMINA FASHION, were advised to exercise more care.
M. Palmer, rider of CAMPHOR, became concerned with the filly’s action on several occasions in the straight. It was apparent on the official video film that on several occasions in the straight CAMPHOR lost its stride. The veterinary surgeon was unable to examine CAMPHOR as it had left the course and, in all the circumstances, stewards believed they had no alternative other than to advise trainer Mr M. Webb that before racing again, a veterinary clearance would be required for CAMPHOR.
G. Colless, rider of ANDSOSAYALLOFUS, stated that the filly jumped well and because of this he took up a position further towards the front than was his intention. He added that ANDSOSAYALLOFUS travelled well but at about the 600m when placed under pressure, the filly did not respond and over the concluding stages was very disappointing. Mr C. Tyrill, stable representative for trainer A. Bailey, stated that ANDSOSAYALLOFUS had been doing well and he expected that the filly would run well today. He said that on pulling up it was inclined to blow just a little but other than this, he could see no abnormalities, however the club’s veterinary surgeon did report that ANDSOSAYALLOFUS was a little short in its action in front. Mr Tyrill gave an assurance that should anything come to the attention of stable management regarding the condition of ANDSOSAYALLOFUS, it would be immediately reported to stewards.

1st – Dual Chamber 2nd – Acquired 3rd – Tracy’s Choice 4th - Casholet

Subsequent to the event all monies invested on CHEAP THRILLS were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 19 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 16 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets. Race 8: Woolworths Class 6 Plate – 1350m
1st –My Limit 2nd – In A bind 3rd – Age Of Heroes/Smart Punch
Connections advised that from the wide draw, AGE OF HEROES would be positioned back in the field.
Connections advised that PUCCINI would be positioned behind the speed if possible from the difficult barrier.
RED RAIDERS (M. Palmer) began very awkwardly and bumped the inside of its gate.
In the middle stages, PUCCINI (A. Spinks), MY LIMIT (J. Byrne) and SMART PUNCH (C. Munce) was obliged to race wide throughout.
When questioned regarding his riding of ABSENT FRIENDS, D. Brown said that he had been instructed to ride the horse quietly and allow it time to find its feet. He added that Mr Mayfield-Smith had told him if he was obliged to travel towards the inside he should ride the horse in that circumstance for luck. D. Brown went on to say accordingly ABSENT FRIENDS got towards a rearward position and at about the 600m he considered momentarily shifting out with AGE OF HEROES, however elected not to do so and continued on the inside following READY TO RISE where for some time he obtained clear running, but over about the last 100m was held up and ABSENT FRIENDS went to the line without being properly tested out. Trainer Mr Mayfield-Smith confirmed the instructions given and said whilst he did say that it was okay for the horse to be ridden for luck, this was only to be the case if it was caught towards the inside. He said he was disappointed with the outcome of the race and in hindsight would have preferred to have seen ABSENT FRIENDS with clear running, but one of the reasons for engaging jockey Brown was that he rides quietly and that the intention was to have ABSENT FRIENDS ridden that way today. At the conclusion of the inquiry, D. Brown was told his riding had caused a lot of concern, and today whilst the decision to stay to the inside did not work out, it was not a decision that was in breach of the rules, therefore the matter was not being proceeded with. The explanation tendered by Mr Mayfield-Smith was accepted, however he was told he should endeavour wherever possible to ensure that his instructions he gives ensures that horses which he trains are ridden in a manner which leaves no room for query whatsoever.
