Approaching the 1000m, NAVILLUS SUPERMAN (J. Taylor) and GUNDY MOON (C. Munce) both overraced for a short distance when the pace of the race steadied.

RUNNING ON FAITH lost its near fore plate in running.

Race 2: Panasonic Airconditioning Maiden Plate – 1660m
1st – Cartier Belle 2nd – Bold And Away 3rd – Tarjay 4th – Prince Octane

Connections of TARJAY advised that from its wide barrier, the gelding would initially be ridden back in the field. TARJAY was ridden accordingly.

PRINCE OCTANE (J. Byrne) was inclined to overrace in the early and middle stages.

RED OPINION (M. Speers) was caught wide in the early and middle stages.

Near the 450m, STORMY SUNDAY (B. Looker) was checked when tightened for room when racing to the inside of TWILIGHT EXPRESS (R. McMahon), which shifted in and away from RED OPINION (M. Speers), which was racing greenly at this stage. RIVIERA CLAY (J. Bowditch), which was following, was inconvenienced in this incident. Trainer B. Baker was advised that a warning would be issued regarding the racing manners of RED OPINION.

TARJAY (R. Wiggins) raced wide for the majority of the event.

Race 3: Panasonic Power Tools 3yo Maiden Plate - 1040m

The start of this race was delayed due to STAR SHOW proving difficult to load.

KLAIREFONTEIN (S. Katsidis) shifted out at the start and brushed ISAJOY (M. Wood). KLAIREFONTEIN then shifted back in and bumped BAROQUE PEARL (L. Cassidy).

SHOW A FORTUNE (D. Tanti) began awkwardly.

CEARNACH (D. Browne) was tightened for room at the finish between KLAIREFONTEIN and
LOVE A SEQUALO (J. Byrne), which shifted in under pressure.

STAR SHOW bled during the event. As this was the second occasion on which the gelding had bled, STAR SHOW will now incur a lifetime bar from racing.

Race 4: Specialist Air Network Maiden H'cap - 1110m
1st – Mosscedes 2nd – Not Declared 3rd – Kamloop Magic 4th - Idocrase

SHOW A SWING (J. Byrne) and IDOCRASE (B. Looker) were tightened for room shortly after the start between CALL ME COBBER (M. Wood) and NOT DECLARED (K. Forrester), which was taken out by KAMLOOP MAGIC (J. Bowditch).

BELAGO (K. Sawyers) was slow to begin.

MAC’S HERO (L. Cassidy) raced extremely wide in the early and middle stages of the event.

EARL’S GIRL (S. Katsidis), which was caught racing wide for the majority of the event, was inclined to hang out leaving the 600m.

NOVA ICE (J. Stanley) and MAC’S HERO came together and bumped on a number of occasions over the final 200m.

Following the event, apprentice M. Wood expressed concerns with the action of CALL ME COBBER during the event. A post-race veterinary examination of CALL ME COBBER revealed no abnormalities at the time of examination.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SHOW A SWING, J. Byrne stated he was satisfied with the way the horse travelled in the early stages of the event, however he believed SHOW A SWING was struck by a clod of dirt near the 500m and thereafter the horse failed to respond to his urgings and raced greenly. A post-race veterinary examination of SHOW A SWING failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 5: FS Multi Air Conditioning System Class 5 H'cap - 1660m
1st – Mr Nicholas 2nd – Adamon 3rd – Amazing Dane 4th – Just A Classic

JOYEUX JOY (J. Byrne) overraced in the early and middle stages of the event.

Leaving the 200m, AMAZING DANE (M. Speers) shifted out and bumped JOYEUX JOY.

Stewards sought an explanation from trainer R. Heathcote regarding the seemingly improved performance of MR NICHOLAS today as compared to its run at the Sunshine Coast on 20 June. Mr Heathcote stated that the horse was having its second start back from a spell at the Sunshine Coast and raced on a track which, in his opinion, was rain affected which he felt was of detriment to the horse’s chances. He further added that since MR NICHOLAS’s run on 20 June the gelding had pleased him in his work and was confident of a more forward showing today. Stewards noted the explanation.

Following the event, J. Bowditch expressed concern with the action of COSTA MUCHO during the event. A post-race veterinary examination of COSTA MUCHO failed to reveal any significant abnormalities at the time of examination.

Race 6: 1300Comfort Class 3 H'cap - 1110m

Race 7: Steven Pauling Class 4 H'cap - 1350m
1st – Heartsun 2nd – Fine Finish 3rd – Just The Rock 4th – Use To Be A Dancer

RUNATUN was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 9.40 am. RUNATUN will require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.

Stewards accepted the explanation from trainer T. Bailey regarding the circumstances surrounding the late rider notificaton for FORMAL PRINCESS.

Apprentice M. Wood, rider of LEICA LION (Race 5), CHILLY RULER (Race 6) and SKY TRAVELLER (Race 7) was fined $200 for failing to claim his full allowance on these horses. M. Wood was fined $400.

FINE FINISH (R. McMahon) was slow to begin.

ROCKY GROUND (J. Taylor) overraced in the early stages of the event, and leaving the 900m, had to be steadied off the heels of FOMAL PRINCESS (L. Cassidy). As a consequence, SKY TRAVELLER (M. Wood) and CAPE CHIVAS (J. Byrne), which were trailing, had to be steadied.

HEARTSUN (D. Browne) had a tendency to overrace in the early stages.

Leaving the 800m, SKY TRAVELLER (M. Wood) shifted out away from the heels of ROCKY GROUND and in doing so forced JUST THE ROCK wider on the track. JUST THE ROCK was then obliged to raced 4 wide for the remainder of the event.

Approaching the 300m, ROCKY GROUND was tightened for room and had to be steadied when racing between BEARHART GOLD (R. Wiggins) and FOMAL PRINCESS, which shifted in.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of BLOOMIN THUNDER, J. Holder stated that he was obliged to work harder than expected in the early stages to obtain the lead and then he was further placed under pressure when challenged by FOMAL PRINCESS in the middle stages. He was of the opinion that these factors contributed to the horse yielding ground over the final 200m of the event.

C. Munce, rider of JUST THE ROCK, was found guilty of a charge under AR137(b), in that he failed to ride his mount right out to the finish of the race. In deciding the matter, stewards were satisfied that his failure to adhere to the rule did not cost JUST THE ROCK second placing in this event. C. Munce was fined $200.

A post-race veterinary examination of FOMAL PRINCESS revealed the filly to have suffered a laceration to its mouth as a result of contact with the barriers at the start.
