Race 1: ASPLEY PUBLOVERS QITS H’CAP - 1350m
1st – Startsmeup 2nd – Smart 3rd – Rodrigeuz 4th – Driving Reign

EQUISSENTIAL (P. Wolfgram) jumped out at the start and bumped SMART (J. Byrne).

A post-race veterinary examination of TEMPLE COURT (J. Taylor), which compounded to finish a distant last, failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Stewards sought an explanation from M. Cahill regarding the tactics employed on RODRIGEUZ whereby the horse settled in a rearward position as opposed to its most recent start when it raced up on the pace. M. Cahill stated that he had been instructed by connections to take up a rearward position from its difficult barrier as at its most recent start they were of the opinion that it had found the lead too early in the straight and then failed to finish the race off on that occasion. Trainer R. Macrae confirmed the instructions issued to M. Cahill and stewards subsequently reprimanded Mr Macrae for failing to fulfil his obligations to advise of a change of riding tactics under AR. 135A.

Race 2: THIRSTY CAMEL BOTTLESHOPS H’CAP - 2220m
1st – Jedi Starfighter 2nd – Cross Town Traffic 3rd – Loves A Challenge 4th - Walpersdorf

ILUVA QUEENSLANDER was inspected at the barriers by the veterinary surgeon at the request of the rider M. Cahill and passed suitable to race.

WALPERSDORF hung out rounding the turn out of the front straight.

Jockey M. Cahill, the rider of ILUVA QUEENSLANDER, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a), in that near the 2000m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of WALPERSDORF (J. Taylor), resulting in WALPERSDORF clipping the heels of ILUVA QUEENSLANDER and blundering. M. Cahill’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Saturday, 4 September, and expire at midnight on Saturday, 18 September 2010. At a subsequent inquiry J. Taylor was found guilty of a charge under AR. 175(g) in that during the course of the inquiry into the incident near the 2000m involving ILUVA QUEENSLANDER he provided false evidence in respect of the clearance provided by M. Cahill (ILUVA QUEENSLANDER) and the pressure applied by R. Wiggins (DANE FONTAINE) at the time of the incident. J. Taylor was fined the sum of $500.

REGAL GAZE (G. Colless) raced wide in the early stages.

ROCK RULES (K. Forrester) and JEDI STARFIGHTER (N. Thomas) raced wide throughout.

Approaching the 700m DANE FONTAINE (R. Wiggins) raced ungenerously when its rider was attempting to position it to the outside of the heels of ILUVA QUEENSLANDER (M. Cahill) in order to improve.

LOVES A CHALLENGE (R. McMahon) and WALPERSDORF were both held up rounding the home turn behind the heels of the tiring CHINRUB (P. Hammersley).

J. Taylor, the rider of WALPERSDORF, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a), in that near the 400m he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of ILUVA QUEENSLANDER, resulting in that horse being tightened for room between WALPERSDORF and ROCK RULES, further resulting in ILUVA QUEENSLANDER losing its rightful running. Stewards, when assessing penalty, took into account the minor degree of interference suffered to ILUVA QUEENSLANDER and the exemplary riding record of J. Taylor and felt in the circumstances the appropriate penalty was a reprimand.

Stewards sought an explanation from T. Thomas, the trainer of JEDI STARFIGHTER, in respect of the gelding’s improved performance today. Mr Thomas stated that subsequent to its last run he removed the blinkers and added a bit lifter when he was disappointed with the horse’s performance. Mr Thomas added that the horse had worn blinkers for a considerable period of time in its racing career and he felt that the horse, particularly at its last start, lost interest during the race when racing in blinkers. Mr Thomas added that with the increase in distance today JEDI STARFIGHTER was able to put itself into the race a lot earlier and felt that this may have contributed to the horse’s improved performance.

Race 3: THE PLOUGH INN TAVERN H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Ringa Ringa Rosie 2nd – Beyonce’s Star 3rd – Falvelina 4th – Visa Lisa

En route to the barriers the offside stirrup leather of BEYONCE'S STAR broke, resulting in B. Stewart being dislodged. The horse was quickly recaptured, transferred to the barriers and a new stirrup leather fitted. A subsequent veterinary examination of BEYONCE'S STAR passed the mare suitable to race.

PENNY LOUISE (J. Wood) jumped out at the start and made contact with the hind quarters of FALVELINA (S. Bogenhuber).

Leaving the 400m FASLIYEV DANCER (B. El-Issa) was momentarily tightened for room by HEALY CREEK (J. Byrne), which shifted in.

Race 4: GEEBUNG ZILLMERE RSL CLUB H’CAP - 1640m
1st – Deacon 2nd – Rebounded 3rd – Mr Slick 4th – Rightson

SHUFFLE THE CASH (B. Stewart) raced wide throughout.

YUMMY (C. Munce) was momentarily held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

YUMMY had difficulty obtaining clear running inside the 100m.

A post-race veterinary examination of BEARTRACKER (L. Cassidy) revealed the gelding had sustained lacerations to both hind legs consistent with being galloped on.

Stewards sought an explanation from J. Byrne, the rider of RIGHTSON, in regards to him not taking advantage of a run which presented itself shortly after entering the home straight between MR SLICK (J. Holder) and REBOUNDED (M. Radecker). J. Byrne stated that when the run became apparent to him he had every intention of placing his mount into it, however when he put RIGHTSON under hard riding it failed to quicken. J. Byrne added that when he was unable to make use of the run, he felt it was in the best interests of the horse to move it to the outside of REBOUNDED where there was a clear and uninterrupted run for RIGHTSON to the finish line. J. Byrne further added that RIGHTSON was up 3kg from its most recent performance and felt this was a significant contributor to the horse being unable to quicken into the run shortly after straightening.

Race 5: ASPLEY HORNETS AFL CLUB H’CAP - 1640m
1st – Chilled 2nd – Threat 3rd – Supreme De Lago 4th - Ausworld

BEARHART GOLD (R. McMahon) blundered on jumping away.

MATTER OF PRIORITY (D. Green) and LASTPIC (M. Hellyer) were tightened for room after the start between NORTENO (M. Cahill) and NANIWA (A. Butler), both of which shifted ground.

Near the 1400m NANIWA commenced to overrace at the heels of AUSWORLD (B. Stewart). When being restrained, NANIWA then shifted out and was obliged to race three wide from that point onwards.

SUPREME DE LAGO (C. Munce) raced three wide throughout.

BEARHART GOLD overraced in the early stages.

C. Munce reported that SUPREME DE LAGO laid in under pressure in the home straight, placing him at a disadvantage.

A post-race veterinary examination of SUPREME DE LAGO revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg. Connections will be advised that they must produce a veterinary certificate of fitness for the horse prior to its next start.

Stewards sought an explanation from M. Cahill in respect of the seemingly disappointing performance of NORTENO. M. Cahill stated that the horse secured a nice run from the good alley and travelled well, however failed to respond to his riding rounding the home turn and compounded in the straight. Trainer B. Wakefield was unable to provide any explanation for the horse’s poor performance but suggested that the horse may not have appreciated the firm surface today and undertook to advise stewards of anything that comes to light in following days that may have had an effect on the performance. A post-race veterinary examination NORTENO failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 6: HOTEL LA H’CAP - 1350m
1st – Meet George 2nd – Poor Judge 3rd – Anyways 4th – Blackwoods Choice

BORSHA'S WARRIOR (J. Holder) and STARZANDO (E. Wilkinson) overraced in the early stages.

Near the 800m COCKTAIL SUPREME (M. Radecker) commenced to overrace shortly after being crossed by POOR JUDGE (C. Munce). M. Radecker was then obliged to shift her mount away from the heels of POOR JUDGE to a three-wide position. COCKTAIL SUPREME then raced three wide for the remainder of the event.

A post-race veterinary examination of COCKTAIL SUPREME revealed that the gelding had sustained lacerations to its near hind leg consistent with being galloped on.

Race 7: QUEENS ARMS HOTEL H’CAP - 1350m
1st – Go Forest Go 2nd – Fly To Win 3rd – Heartsun 4th – Buttido

TETRA (M. Cahill), BEST OF CEEDEE (J. Taylor) and RED STORY (G. Colless) were slow to begin.

MOHAWK (J. Wood) raced wide in the early stages.

BUBBLED (R. Wiggins), FLY TO WIN (L. Cassidy) and RED STORY raced three wide throughout.

Near the 300m PARIS BOY (B. Stewart) shifted out in an endeavour to obtain clear running and came into contact with OSCAR THE GREAT (J. Byrne). PARIS BOY was then momentarily held up for clear running behind the heels of TASTY TIDBIT (P. Hammersley).

P. Hammersley, the rider of TASTY TIDBIT, which performed below expectation, explained that the horse travelled comfortably in the early stages, however when the pace slackened near the 800m it had commenced to overrace and he was obliged to restrain it from the heels of HEARTSUN (E. Wilkinson). P. Hammersley added that TASTY TIDBIT did not appreciate racing inside MOHAWK when that horse went around to the lead and from that point forward was under pressure and whilst it accelerated in the early part of the straight it nonetheless disappointed him in the run to the finish.

Stewards sought an explanation from G. Colless in regards to the seemingly disappointing performance of RED STORY. G. Colless stated that he was forced to travel three wide throughout the event in an endeavour to hold his position, but despite this the horse was under pressure passing the 600m and proved disappointing in the run to the finish.

Race 8: COCA-COLA AMATIL H’CAP - 1200m
1st – One Lickety Split 2nd – The Joker 3rd – Topkapi Palace 4th – Academy Magic

ACADEMY MAGIC (J. Taylor) began awkwardly.

DR BARNARD (J. Byrne), JUNGLE HEAT (R. Wiggins) and KING OF THE KONGO (M. Cahill) were slow to begin.

MR DOYLE (J. Holder), DR BARNARD, FIREDRAKE (R. McMahon) and JUNGLE HEAT raced wide throughout.

Shortly after entering the home straight THE JOKER shifted out to obtain clear running and in doing so made contact with TOPKAPI PALACE (B. El-Issa) on several occasions.

A post-race veterinary examination of DR BARNARD (J. Byrne) revealed the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg. Connections will be advised that they must produce a veterinary certificate of fitness for the horse prior to its next start.

Stewards sought an explanation from jockey S. Traecey, the rider, and G. Yorke, the trainer, of ONE LICKETY SPLIT in regards to the apparent change of tactics employed on the horse today. G. Yorke stated that he gave no specific instructions to jockey Traecey and expected the horse to be positioned midfield. S. Traecey stated that the horse began well and when it became apparent that he would be able to take up a forward position he took the opportunity to do so.
