From Eagle Farm - Wednesday 17 August 2011 – Race 8
App T. Bell was issued with a reprimand for using his whip in a forehand manner on 7 occasions on GENERAL PURPLE prior to the 100m. Stewards also interviewed App T. Bell regarding his failure to ride GENERAL PURPLE out to the end of the race. App Bell explained that he was unable to ride in his normal manner approaching the winning post due to being close to the heels of ACHIEVEMENTS. Stewards accepted his explanation and took no further action.
Race 1: WWW.BRC.COM.AU QTIS 3YO H’CAP – 1615m
1st – Peppered Black 2nd – Denwood 3rd – Tehuti 4th – Ellie La Vie
CURRAWEE LASS (App M. Hellyer) was slow to begin.
After being a little slow to begin ELLIE LA VIE (C. Munce) was hampered soon after by GRANZELLA (R. Goltz), which shifted out.
Near the 800m GRANZELLA which continued to overrace and proved difficult to ride, shifted in and bumped MIND HUNTER (App T. Bell).
After passing the 400m MIND HUNTER had to be checked when tightened for room by TEHUTI (J. Fry), which hung in away from GRANZELLA, despite the efforts of its rider.
DENWOOD (App M. Wood) hung in when placed under pressure inside the final 300m and approaching the 200m shifted in and bumped GRANZELLA, which was taken in onto TEHUTI (App J. Fry).
Stewards interviewed rider R. Goltz regarding the racing manners of GRANZELLA. R. Goltz explained that he was unable to settle the filly in the early stages and when it became evident he would be unable to cross MIND HUNTER for the lead he attempted to settle and sit outside that runner but GRANZELLA refused to settle and after passing the 800m commenced to hang out, which resulted in the filly racing wide from that point on. Trainer D. Baker advised that it was his intention to spell GRANZELLA. Stewards advised him he would be required to have the filly compete in an official barrier trial before it races again. A post race veterinary examination of GRANZELLA revealed a slower than normal recovery rate.
Race 2: POLO @ DOOMBEN 25 SEPTEMBER 1MW H'CAP – 1615m
1st – Haslington 2nd – Eastline 3rd – Bootooloo 4th - Craigellachie
Correct weight was delayed to allow C. Munce the rider of second placegetter EASTLINE to view the stewards patrol film of the home straight to ascertain whether he had grounds to lodge an objection against HASLINGTON (J. Taylor) being declared the winner. After viewing the film C. Munce did not wish to proceed.
Prior to the declaration of correct weight stewards inquired into the reasons for BOOTOOLOO (R. McMahon) and BRIGADOON STAR (App B. Wallace), which had been drawn along side each other, allegedly starting from the incorrect barriers. Evidence was taken from both riders and K. Schweida and C. Harbrow the respective trainers of the two runners. It was established that these two runners, which had drawn gates 4 and 5, were inadvertently placed in the incorrect barriers. Having considered the provisions of AR128(2) and the subsequent position and placings of the two runners, stewards were of the view that such error did not have a material effect on their finishing positions, therefore deemed the horses to be starters and correct weight was declared. Subsequently R. McMahon (BOOTOOLOO) and App B. Wallace (BRIGADOON STAR) pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR175(k) in that they were negligent by failing to ensure they were placed in their correct barriers and were fined the sum of $300.00.
CRAIGELLACHIE (Matthew Palmer) and TRANSPORTER (App T. Bell) bumped at the start.
In the early stages AMERICAN GANGSTER (N. Thomas) hung in badly.
Near the 1000m HASLINGTON became unbalanced and shifted ground.
In the middle stages BOOTOOLOO (R. McMahon) raced keenly.
Stewards sought an explanation from rider T. Bell regarding the performance of TRANSPORTER. T. Bell stated that the slow tempo of the race did not suit the gelding as he had it settled in its customary rearward position. T. Bell added that he was unable to improve into the race where he would have liked from the 600m as HUSSON’S FORTUNE (J. Letherby), which he was trailing, began to lose ground. T. Bell further added that when he was able to get to the outside upon straightening TRANSPORTER did not quicken under his riding as expected and was disappointing. Stable representative Mr Brett Killion could not offer any explanation for today’s performance and undertook to report to stewards the results of veterinary tests carried out in the coming days.
Race 3: LYNDHURST STUD OPEN H’CAP – 1615m
1st – Elusive Port 2nd – Frozone 3rd – Ausworld 4th – Secrets Untold
ROCKDALE (Matthew Palmer) blundered at the start.
ANCHOR BOLT (S. Apthorpe) overraced in the early stages of the event.
S. Apthorpe pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR137(a) in that he rode in a careless manner by permitting ANCHOR BOLT to shift in near the 1400m when insufficiently clear of ROCKDALE, resulting in ROCKDALE having to be checked to avoid the heels of ANCHOR BOLT. S. Apthorpe’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of seven (7) meetings to commence immediately and expire midnight 3 September 2011.
ROCKDALE raced 3 wide in the early stages before being ridden forward to obtain the lead passing the 800m.
SECRETS UNTOLD (App M. Wood) was held up when unable to secure clear running in the home straight until near the 150m.
Stewards sought an explanation from J. Taylor regarding the riding tactics he adopted on LAKE GEORGE, which led in the early stages, which is in contrast to its most recent start. J. Taylor explained that he was instructed to settle LAKE GEORGE in a forward position with cover if possible but after he rode with some vigour in the early stages rather than being caught wide and due to there being no pace in the race he elected to proceed forward to the lead. Trainer J. Morrisey confirmed that J. Taylor was instructed to ride in a handy position with cover if possible. J. Morrisey added that LAKE GEORGE will now be sent for a spell.
Race 4: CHANNEL SEVEN BENCHMARK 90 H’CAP – 2200m
1st – Fantastic Blue 2nd – Loves A Challenge 3rd – Molotov 4th - Grieg
On the way to the barriers App B. Wallace was disldoged from FANTASTIC CARAT. The horse was quickly recaptured however App Wallace sustained an injury to his left ankle and was declared unfit to fulfil his engagement. FANTASTIC CARAT was withdrawn at 2.09 p.m. All monies invested on FANTASTIC CARAT to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 2.09 p.m.:-
0 cents in the dollar for a win for the winner
0 cents in the dollar for the place of winner
3 cents in the dollar for 2nd place
2 cents in the dollar for 3rd place
Approaching the post on the first occasion EUREKA (L. Cassidy) raced greenly and got its head up on a number of occasions.
Shortly after straightening HUSSONATOR (A. Coome) was disappointed for a run between EUREKA and WALPERSDORF (S. Seamer), which shifted out marginally.
Also on straightening GRIEG (App M. Hellyer) was inclined to hang in and was reluctant to shift to the outside. It then hung in for the length of the straight.
C. Munce was issued with a reprimand for using his whip on FANTASTIC BLUE in consecutive strides in a forehand manner prior to the 100m.
Stewards sought an explanation from A. Coome regarding the performance of HUSSONATOR. A. Coome explained that HUSSONATOR travelled well and had difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight until passing the 200m when awkwardly placed at the heels of WALPERSDORF. A. Coome added that as the mare did not have the opportunity to gain momentum at this critcial part of the straight he was not disappointed in the overall performance. Trainer D. Hansen advised that it was his intention to send HUSSONATOR for a spell. A post race veterinary examination of HUSSONATOR revealed no significant findings.
S. Seamer reported that due to the slow tempo in the middle stages he elected to improve around the field on WALPERSDORF to the position outside the leader MOLOTOV (J. Taylor).
Race 5: HARDY BROTHERS JEWELLERS CLASS 6 H’CAP - 1110m
1st – What Happenedhenry 2nd – Jungle Heat 3rd – Seek And Find 4th – Sammy Junior
WHAT HAPPENEDHENRY (L. Cassidy) and JUNGLE HEAT (R. McMahon) was slow to begin.
For some distance approaching the passing the 600m SIRENA LIGERA (J. Bowditch) raced in restricted room to the inside of LEAPFROG (J. Fry), which when being ridden forward shifted in. J. Fry the rider of LEAPFROG was advised to provide more clearance to his fellow riders in future.
App T. Bell reported that SAMMY JUNIOR hung in when placed under pressure in the home straight, which prevented him from riding that horse out in his normal manner.
C. Munce was asked to explain the riding tactics he adopted on SEEK AND FIND, which was ridden forward in the early stages and challenged LEAPFROG for the lead, resulting in a fast tempo being set. C. Munce stated that he was instructed to ride SEEK AND FIND in a forward position and when he raced to the outside of LEAPFROG at the 800m he would have liked to have restrained SEEK AND FIND but the gelding, being first up from a spell, raced fresh and he was unable to slow the speed in that section of the race. Trainer K. Wood confirmed he had instructed C. Munce to ride SEEK AND FIND in a forward position and added that SEEK AND FIND racing in blinkers again today may have contributed to C. Munce being unable to take a trail on the gelding. Stewards noted their explanations.
A post race veterinary examination of LEAPFROG revealed the gelding to be exhibiting nasal discharge and respiratory distress. Trainer B. Hill will be advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness will be required prior to LEAPFROG again racing.

Upon return to scale S. Seamer reported that SHOW A LION HEART did not feel comfortable in its action in the early stages. A post race veterinary examination of SHOW A LION HEART revealed the gelding to be lame in the near fore fetlock. Trainer S. Lee will be advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced prior to SHOW A LION HEART again racing.

CARRY ME BLUEY (T. Bell) began awkwardly resulting in its rider becoming unbalanced.
NEWLY ELECTED (App M. Wood) was slow to begin.
CONVICTOR (App M. Hellyer) jumped awkwardly and shifted out bumping KALKIE KANE (J. Bowditch).
Near the 900m CARRY ME BLUEY commenced to overrace and had to be steadied to avoid the heels of TETRA (Matthew Palmer).
Due to the slow tempo near the 800m UNSUPERVISED (L. Cassidy), BELLTONE (C. Munce), CONVICTOR, TETRA, NEWLY ELECTED and NARCELO (G. Colless) all overraced.
