Race 1: Coca-Cola Amatil 1MW H'cap - 1200m
1st – Prost 2nd – God’s Window 3rd – Mirabeau 4th – Nickiera
SEVENTH HEART (E. Wilkinson) overraced at the heels of PROST (R. McMahon) in the early stages.
From leaving the 1000m until near the 700m, COUNTY SHERRIF (K. Wharton) raced ungenerously and hung out.
SEVENTH HEART laid in under pressure in the straight.
Jockey J. Byrne reported that, in his view, HEART TO FEAR, did not appreciate the firm surface and is better suited by a track with more give in it.
Race 2: Coolabah Tree Café QTIS 3yo H'cap - 1615m
1st – Bevico Girl 2nd – Black Jag 3rd – Trump 4th – Rock The Pac
An inquiry has been opened into the running and handling of TRUMP. After taking initial evidence from jockey L. Cassidy and trainer Mr R. Heathcote, the inquiry was adjourned to a time and date to be fixed. A post-race veterinary examination of TRUMP failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
J. Stanley, rider of BLACK JAG, was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift out over the concluding stages, taking ROCK THE PAC (R. Wiggins) out on to ALL THE TORQUE (A. Spinks), which had to be steadied. ALL THE TORQUE was then unable to obtain clear running over the final 100m.
TRUMP (L. Cassidy) raced 3 wide throughout.
Race 3: Origin Kebabs Class 6 H'cap - 1615m
1st – Carry Me Bluey 2nd – My Elixa 3rd – Random Orbit 4th - Narcelo
ULTRA (A. Spinks) blundered badly at the start.
Shortly after the start, CRAQUELURE (L. Cassidy) was tightened for room between RED GOD (B. Looker) and RANDOM ORBIT (M. Hellyer), which shifted out.
RIVER LAD (A. Butler) commenced to hang out approaching the first turn and near the 1300m shifted out, taking BENEFACTION (R. McMahon) and CARRY ME BLUEY (K. Banks) wider on the track. RIVER LAD continued to race ungenerously and hung out for the remainder of the event. A post race veterinary examination of RIVER LAD revealed the horse to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer N. McCall was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness would be required for the gelding prior to racing again.
CARRY ME BLUEY raced wide in the early stages until progressing to a position outside the leader near the 1000m.
Trainer A. Willick was advised that CRAQUELURE, which bled from both nostrils for a second time, would now be barred from racing again.
Race 4: Yummy Noodle Box Open H'cap - 2020m
1st – Secrets Untold 2nd – Eureka 3rd – Mr Armstrong 4th – Bell Academy
AMERICAN GANGSTER was declared a late scratching at 8.46 pm on veterinary advice.
TUSCANY VIEW (B. Looker) overraced in the early stages.
EUREKA (J. Byrne) overraced at the heels of FANTASTIC BLUE (M. Hellyer) for a short distance passing the winning post on the first occasion.
When the pace steadied approaching the 1600m, FANTASTIC BLUE had to be restrained from the heels of SECRETS UNTOLD (L. Cassidy).
TUSCANY VIEW again overraced for a short distance near the 1500m.
MR ARMSTRONG (R. McMahon) was forced to race wide in the early stages until assuming a position outside the leader near the 1000m.
M. Hellyer reported that FANTASTIC BLUE was shuffled back to a position worse than midfield through the middle stages, however he was able to position his mount on the back on the eventual winner SECRETS UNTOLD but could not sprint as well as that horse when the pace increased passing the 600m. Trainer P. Nolan stated that in his view FANTASTIC BLUE was not comfortable on today’s firm surface and he now intends to spell the gelding.
EUREKA shifted out over the concluding stages.
Race 5: Hanaichi NMW H'cap - 2020m
1st – Eishin Rock 2nd – River Perfume 3rd – Daad’s Overtime 4th – Flying Touchdown
WAVE DANCING (B. Looker) and BLOODHOUND (R. Hancock) were slow to begin.
MR NICHOLAS (L. Cassidy) overraced at the heels of CASTLEMAGNE (O. Turpin) in the early stages.
SCARLET JO (J. Taylor) raced wide in the early stages.
Near the 1400m, DODGING EDDIE (L. Rolls) had to be checked from the heels of WAVE DANCING (B. Looker) and when being restrained shifted out, bumping THUNDER LANE (J. Byrne).
Passing the 1300m, DAAD’S OVERTIME (R. McMahon) improved up onto the heels of BITASILK (G. Geran) and shifted out and, taking THUNDER LANE (J. Byrne) wider on the track. DAAD’S OVERTIME then was obliged to race 3 wide until near the 800m.
BILLUM (R. Wiggins) raced wide in the early stages until obtaining the lead near the 1100m.
WAVE DANCING was held up and unable to improve rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight when awkwardly placed at the heels of THUNDER LANE and to the inside of PANNINGEN (E. Wilkinson). WAVE DANCING again had difficulty securing clear running at various stages in the home straight.
RIVER PERFUME (A. Spinks) and EISHIN ROCK (A. Butler) shifted ground when tiring over the concluding stages.
BLOODHOUND raced wide for the majority of the event.
FLYING TOUCHDOWN (M. Hellyer) lost its off fore plate in running.
When asked to explain the seemingly poor performance of DODGING EDDIE, apprentice L. Rolls stated that the steady tempo throughout the race did not suit his mount as the race developed into a sprint home. He added that the horse’s effort over the final 100m was quite satisfying .
Race 6: Fay Gibson Class 6 H'cap - 1350m
1st – Extreme Mover 2nd – Bootooloo 3rd – Il Cardinale 4th - Schrapnel
Connections advised that from the wider barrier, TOPKAPI PALACE would be ridden in a rearward position. The horse was ridden accordingly.
Near the 1000m, CRAIGELLACHIE (P. Keane) raced in restricted room for a short distance to the inside of FRETON (L. Rolls) which had improved to the inside of IL CARDINALE (J. Byrne) where there was insufficient room. CRAIGELLACHIE then shifted out in order to improve which resulted in FRETON being taken wider.
Approaching the 600m, CRAIGELLACHIE, which was overracing, had to be checked to avoid the heels of IL CARDINALE (J. Byrne). CRAIGELLACHIE then shifted wider on the track in order to improve.
TOPKAPI PALACE (J. Taylor) hung in when placed under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
BOOTOOLOO (R. McMahon) had difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight until approaching the 200m.
TOPKAPI PALACE raced 3 wide throughout.
EXTREME MOVER (J. Brown) also raced 3 wide for a major part of the race.
Stewards sought an explanation from A. Spinks regarding the disappointing performance of GUNNER KNOX. A. Spinks stated that the horse travelled travelled comfortably in a position outisde the leader however did not accelerate as expected when asked for an effort leaving the 400m. A. Spinks added that the horse raced in a dour fashion and he informed stewards that connections would now consider stepping the horse up in distance. A post-race veterinary examination of GUNNER KNOX failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 7: Peroni NMW H'cap - 1010m
1st – Found The One 2nd – Lone Assassin 3rd – Street Stall 4th – Silver Scholar
DIXIE LASS (O. Turpin) and FOUND THE ONE (J. Byrne) were slow to begin.
LONE ASSASSIN (B. Looker) and BILLIE BLUE GUM (L. Cassidy) bumped at the start.
RED WINE BWANA (B. Wallace) and PRIME COGNAC (R. Wiggins) both raced wide throughout.
A post-race veterinary examination was carried out on KIRRA LYN, which compounded in the home straight. No significant findings were detected.
DIXIE LASS hung out for a major part of the race. A post-race veterinary examination of DIXIE LASS revealed the horse to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer J. Walk was advised that a veterinary clearance will be required for DIXIE LASS prior to its next race start.
Race 8: Jim Beam Open H'cap - 1110m
1st –Leapfrog 2nd – Monashee Dancer 3rd – Craiglea Falcon 4th - Bazzooka
Near the 800m, CARRY THE CLUBS (B. Looker) shifted out slightly, resulting in HAIZUM (J. Taylor), which was overracing, having to be steadied to avoid that runner’s heels. HAIZUM continued to overrce in the middle stages when racing in a 3 wide position.
Passing the 500m, CARRY THE CLUBS (B. Looker) shifted out around the heels of POOR JUDGE (A. Butler) and as a result made contact with HAIZUM (J. Taylor), forcing that horse wider on the track.
POOR JUDGE (A. Butler) raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
Stewards sought an explanation regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of HAIZUM. J. Taylor stated that the tempo of the race did not suit horses that were positioned back in the field, and when he attempted a forward move from the 600m, he was forced considerably wider on the track.
Jockey R. McMahon was asked to explain the performance of JOINT CHIEFS. R. McMahon stated that the tempo of the race did not suit his mount and, in his opinion, was unable to make up ground in the home straight due to the fast closing sectional.
