A post-race veterinary examination of MOYHARL failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Rider J. Bowditch was asked to explain the performance of MORE COLOURS. J. Bowditch stated that the gelding travelled comfortably until placed under pressure after passing the 600m but then was unable to quicken under his riding, and although he was inconvenienced at the entrance to the straight, he was disappointed in the finishing effort of MORE COLOURS. A post-race veterinary examination of MORE COLOURS revealed the horse to be lame in the near foreleg and near hind leg. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance would be required for MORE COLOURS prior to its next race start.

On return to scale a protest was lodged by J. Taylor, rider of the 4th placegetter, PRECIOUS MANDY, against SHADY TREE (J. Byrne) being declared 3rd, alleging interference over the concluding stages. After hearing evidence from the relevant parties, it was established that SHADY TREE did shift in under pressure over the concluding stages and brushed PRECIOUS MANDY. Bearing in mind the proximity that this incident occurred to the winning post and the margin of a neck between these runners, stewards were of the opinion that this interference had no material effect on the placings and the protest was dismissed and the Judge’s placings were confirmed.

Stanley), and near the 700m shifted out and made heavy contact with FUNDED (J. Byrne) and as a result both KID TYCOON and FUNDED became unbalanced. Stewards were mindful that the pace of the race had steadied noticeably at this point, which placed M. Wood, rider of KID TYCOON, at a disadvantage, however he was reminded that at all times he must show regard for the safety of his fellow riders.
