From GCTC, 10.12.11 – Race 7.
Trainer M. Dunn advised that TACKER had pulled up well, however will now be sent be sent for a spell.

Apprentice M. Wood was fined $100 for failing to supply a medical clearance.

Race 1: Racing Retro Maiden Plate – 1350m
1st - Tiyatro 2nd – Oh Sunday 3rd – Utzon’s Vision 4th – Bridies Boy

The start of this race was delayed as a result of TIYATRO (B. Richardson) being fractious in the barriers.

LADY CARLSON (C. Munce) and TOP TASSEL (M. Hellyer) made contact shortly after the start.

BRIDIES BOY (J. Bowditch) and JHELUM (R. Wiggins) also made contact on jumping away.

TIYATRO (B. Richardson) began awkwardly.

Near the 800m, JHELUM and DEFENCEMAN (B. Stewart) came together and bumped.

JHELUM, TIYATRO, and BRIDIES BOY overraced during the middle stages.

BRIDIES BOY and JHELUM were held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

LADY CARLSON had a tendency to lay in under pressure over the final 200m, and near the 100m had to be steadied off the heels of TYATRO, which shifted in. B. Richardson, rider of TYATRO, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

C. Munce, rider of LADY CARLSON, lost his whip near the 80m.

TOP TASSEL raced wide throughout.

Following this race the track rating was upgraded to Dead 5.

Race 2: Padua College 3-YO CG&E Maiden H'cap - 1040m
1st – Mr Thatcher 2nd – Susashi 3rd – Volkhere 4th - Pakleppa

MR THATCHER (S. Galloway) and STAGE EXIT (B. Looker) made contact on jumping away.

DASSAULT (J. Byrne) began awkwardly.

MESTARI (C. Munce) was crowded for room shortly after the start between ATHABASCA (Michael Palmer) and VOLKHERE (B. Stewart), which shifted.

Near the 700m, SUSASHI (D. Missen) shifted out and in doing so forced DASSAULT wider on the track.

DASSAULT raced ungenerously and hung out near the 600m, taking STAGE EXIT wider on the track.

VOLKHERE raced greenly in the straight and near the 200m shifted in, tightening the running of PAKLEPPA LANE (B. Richardson).

STAGE EXIT raced 3 wide throughout.

When questoned regarding the performance of MESTARI, C. Munce stated the horse after being fractious in the barriers, began only moderately and then never travelled well throughout running and proved most disappointing. Trainer L. Birchley confirmed his disaappointment with MESTARI, however was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance today.


Race 3: IPCQ 3yo Fillies Maiden H'cap - 1040m
1st – Bold Option 2nd – Judy’s Joy 3rd – Win For Layla 4th – Lavish LIfestyle

The start of this race was delayed slightly when ISAVENGER had to be resaddled and GYPSY PEARL being difficult to load.

MITESSA (B. Stewart) was crowded for room shortly after the start between ANNONA (L. Rolls) and BOLD OPTION (M. Hellyer), which shifted out.

GYPSY PEARL (M. Wood) had a tendency to lay in under pressure for the majority of the straight.

ANNONA, THE GENERALS NIECE (J. Byrne) and GYPSY PEARL raced wide for the majority of the race.

When questioned, G. Colless was at a loss to explain the disappointing performance of VEICO. He added that VEICO travelled well in running but failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure in the straight.

M. Wood was reprimanded for failing to weigh in 5th on GYSPY PEARL.

Following this race the track rating was upgraded to Dead 4.


Race 4: Sequalo@Lyndhurst Class 3 H'cap - 1660m
1st – Gold Shears 2nd – All My Heart 3rd – Luckily 4th – In A Tangle

Trainer R. Heathcote advised that the intention would be for FUNDED to go forward from the wide barrier. The horse was ridden accordingly.

RUSTY TRAWLER (N. Thomas), which was initially slow to begin, made contact with FORBIDDEN FRUIT (E. Wilkinson) shortly after jumping away.

ALL MY HEART (G. Colless) was slow to begin.

RUSTY TRAWLER overraced in the early stages.

ALL MY HEART was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

SIR MOSSMAN (E. Kehoe) raced wide for the majority of the race before tiring badly over the final 400m. A post-race veterinary examination of SIR MOSSMAN failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of FUNDED, J. Byrne stated that the horse travelled well in the lead position until the 500m, however when placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding. He further added he was extremely disappointed with the horse over the final 300m where it was inclined to lay in away from other runners A post-race veterinary examination of FUNDED failed to reveal any significant abnormalities at the time of examination. Trainer R. Heathcote confirmed his disappointment with the horse’s performance as FUNDED had worked well leading up to today’s event. He further advised stewards he would have further veterinary tests carried out on the gelding and undertook to report to stewards the results of such tests.


Race 5: Nuturf Specialists Providing Solutions Class 3 H'cap - 1350m
1st – Lonaro 2nd – Top Jaydee 3rd – Marked 4th - Javelentia

Due to extenuating circumstances, stewards took no action against trainer R. Pratt for the late declaration of M. Hellyer as the rider of PRESIDENT.

DANISH WHISKEY (C. Munce) shifted out at the start, making contact with LONARO (J. Brown).

DAZZLING KIND (E. Wilkinson) began awkwardly.

WILL IMPRESS (J. Taylor) and PRESIDENT (M. Hellyer) made contact on jumping away.

DANISH WHISKEY hung out in the early stages of the race, and near the 1200m shifted out, resulting in LONARO (J. Brown), DAZZLING KIND (E. Wilkinson) and MARKED (P. Hammersley) all being tightened for room when racing between DANISH WHISKEY and WILL IMPRESS (J. Taylor). DANISH WHISKEY continued to hang out when placed under pressure in the straight.

C. Munce, rider of DANISH WHISKEY, stated that although the filly had on previous occasions had an inclination to hang out in her races, she hung out to a greater degree today than on previous occasions. A post-race veterinary examination of DANISH WHISKEY failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Stewards questoned apprentice B. Richardson and trainer T. Gollan regarding the tactics adopted on BACKSTAGE TYCOON, which established a significant lead in the early and middle stages before yielding ground over the final 300m. Mr Gollan advised that the instructions were to lead on the mare as it races best in that position or in a positon outside the leader. He further advised apprentice Richardson to be positive on the horse out of the barriers in an endeavour to hold its position from the inside gate. Apprentice Richardson stated that after urging the horse forward in the early stages, BACKSTAGE TYCOON then overraced resulting in the horse establishing a clear lead on the remainder of the field. Stewards noted the explanation.

C. Munce was reprimanded for failing to weigh in 5th on DANISH WHISKEY.


Race 6: Sky Racing Class 3 H'cap - 1350m
1st – Run Royal Run 2nd – Mr Testa 3rd – Lady Agulhas 4th – Little Antics

RUN ROYAL RUN was examined by the veterinary surgeon at the barriers after the horse dislodged its rider during the preliminary and galloped for a short distance before being recaptured. After a veterinary examination, RUN ROYAL RUN was cleared to start.

SHOCKING BLUE was also examined by the veterinary surgeon at the barriers after the horse made contact with the gate whilst proceeding to the start. Following the examination, SHOCKING BLUE was cleared to start. SHOCKING BLUE was again examined by the veterinary surgeon after the horse was fractious in the barriers prior to the start. SHOCKING BLUE blue was cleared to race.

LITTLE ANTICS (G. Colless), which was initially slow to begin, was then tightened for room between SHOCKING BLUE (J. Byrne) and RUN ROYAL RUN (C. Munce), both of which shifted ground.

KAMADIVA (B. Richardson) was slow to begin.

KID TYCOON (L. Finlay) began awkwardly and shifted in, making contact with WABEEL (S. Galloway).

Leaving the 900m, KID TYCOON was crowded for room when racing to the inside of LADY AGULHAS (K. Banks), which shifted in. K. Banks, rider of AGULHAS, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

Apprentice M. Wood reported that MR TESTA was inclined to lay out in the middle stages of the race.

BANG ON (T. Bell) and LADY AGULHAS raced wide throughout.

Race 7: www.brc.com.au Benchmark 75 H'cap - 1200m
1st – The Reveller 2nd – Catch The Light 3rd – Tictacs 4th – Tycoon’s Pride

R. Wiggins was stood by the doctor from his engagement on VINTAGE FLINT and N. Thomas was substituted as the rider of that horse.

CHEMIN DE MARC (C. Munce) began awkwardly.

REVENTON (R. McMahon) and SIR TELES (P. Keane) were slow to begin.

Near the 900m, REVENTON (R. McMahon) was momentarily tightened for room and had to be steadied when racing between CHEMIN DE MARC, which had a tendency to shift out, and VINTAGE FLINT (N. Thomas),which shifted in slightly.

Passing the 500m, SIR TELES (P. Keane) shifted out to improve and in doing so bumped FALVELINA (B. Richardson)

TICTACS (N. Seymour) overraced in the middle stages and approaching the 600m shifted out, taking CHEMIN DE MARC wider on the track.

THE REVELLER (M. Palmer) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn, and near the 400m was disappointed for a run between CHEMIN DE MARC and REVENTON (R. McMahon) and as a result had to alter course.

VINTAGE FLINT raced wide throughout.

When questioned regarding the performance of REVENTON, which performed below market expectations, R. McMahon stated that the horse travelled well in the early and middle stages but was found wanting when placed under pressure, however was of the opinion that the horse would take benefit from the run. It was further noted that R. McMahon dropped his whip leaving the 300m.
