GENERAL

As apprentice T. Bell was ill and apprentice M. Wood was injured, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: WWW.BRC.COM.AU QTIS 2YO H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Lady Colours 2nd – Ain’t She Sweet 3rd – Sierra Rapid 4th – Antarctic Dream

Subject to any further submission from trainer N. Saunders, a fine of $100 will be imposed for the late declaration of J. Taylor as the rider of ARAGON.

CRAIGLEA GINGER (M. Hellyer) and ARAGON (J. Taylor) were slow to begin.

HOLEY GADOLEY (J. Stanley) and LUCKY DAY KID (J. Byrne) made heavy contact on jumping away.

WATTLE WARRIOR (G. Colless) overraced at the heels of LADY COLOURS (D. Browne) in the early stages.

SCARLET TANAGER (J. Ford), ANTARCTIC DREAM (P. Hammersley) and HOLEY GADOLEY raced wide throughout.

Stewards sought an explanation from jockey J. Ford, the rider of SCARLET TANAGER, as to the reason why he did not progress to the position outside the leader near the 800m when holding an advantage over AIN’T SHE SWEET (J. Brown). J. Ford stated that he was instructed to ride the horse in a forward position but was told not to be too aggressive on the horse in the early stages. He added that he considered riding his horse forward approaching the 800m to sit to the outside of LADY COLOURS, however when he attempted to do so AIN’T SHE SWEET held its ground to his inside. J. Ford further added that once he reached the 800m he did not believe it would be in the horse’s best interests to pressure it to the extent that would result in him being able to position outside the leader when the horse had settled will in a three-wide position. Stewards accepted jockey Ford’s explanation.

WATTLE WARRIOR lost its off fore plate in running.

Race 2: MULLINS LAWYERS CLASS 6 PLATE - 1600m
1st – Demanding Miss 2nd – Kiss Me Deadly 3rd – Miss Barwang 4th - Goldcat

Subject to any further submission from trainer B. Baldwin, a fine of $100 will be imposed for the late declaration of M. Wood as the rider of DEMANDING MISS.

After replacing apprentice M. Wood as the rider of DEMANDING MISS, apprentice T. Lovelock-Wiggins advised that he was unable to claim any of his allowance and following submissions from trainer B. Baldwin on behalf of the owners, stewards permitted apprentice B. Richardson to be substituted as the rider of that mare.

DANCE IDOL (B. Looker) was slow to begin.

PRIMED (J. Brown), which overraced in the early and middle stages, raced three wide throughout.

Near the 500m GOLDCAT (P. Hammersley) had to be steadied when tightened for room between KISS ME DEADLY (D. Browne) and PRIMED, which laid in.

DANCE IDOL laid in under pressure in the straight.

PRIMED lost its off fore plate in running.

Stewards sought an explanation from apprentice P. Keane and stable representative Mr D. Gollan regarding the riding tactics adopted on LOOPED. Of particular concern to stewards was the reason apprentice Keane did not maintain a trailing position behind MISS BARWANG (E. Wilkinson) approaching the first turn. Stewards also questioned apprentice Keane in regards to his tactics from the 700m when there appeared to be an opportunity to make up ground and take a position trailing KISS ME DEADLY. Apprentice Keane informed stewards that he was instructed to ride the horse where it was comfortable and not be too aggressive as the horse has shown a tendency to overrace in the past. He added that he was satisfied to let MISS BARWANG cross him in the early stages and approaching the first turn when KISS ME DEADLY was racing to his outside and moving forward, he was reluctant to pressure LOOPED as he felt it would overrace if he did so. P. Keane informed stewards that LOOPED then raced ungenerously at the heels of KISS ME DEADLY resulting in him having to check the horse and lose ground. He added that following this he attempted to settle the horse and this resulted in him losing contact with the main body of the field. He further added that from the 700m he was reluctant to improve his position along the rail as when he has been successful on LOOPED in the past it has raced best when able to make its run on the outside in the home straight. Mr D. Gollan confirmed that the instructions were to ride LOOPED where it was comfortable, which he envisaged being behind the leading division and was surprised that LOOPED settled so far back. Stewards advised P. Keane that in their view it would have been a better option for him to maintain a trailing position on the back of MISS BARWANG Approaching the first turn and felt that he had erred in not improving his position from the 700m and attempting to make up ground. In all the circumstances, bearing in mind the riding experience of P. Keane, stewards were not of the view that his ride was culpable under the rules.

Apprentice P. Keane, the rider of LOOPED, was fined $200 under AR. 144 for failing to weigh in 5th when required to do so.

IRace 3: HIDDEN DRAGON @ LYNDHURST OPEN H’CAP - 2200m
1st – Za Magic 2nd – Winmara 3rd – Jazz Heart 4th – Majestic Sound

Apprentice P. Keane reported that ROYAL REIGN lost its footing at the start and then did not handle the rain-affected track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination of ROYAL REIGN revealed no abnormalities.

Race 4: SKY RACING 0MW H’CAP – APPROX. 2100m
1st – Big Girls Dont Cry 2nd – The Clandy Man Can 3rd – Tanzina 4th – Hi Jo Silver

As G. Colless was to be overweight, J. Ford was substituted as the rider of BUNDEEBEAR. G. Colless was fined $100 under AR. 120(b).

BUNDEEBEAR (J. Ford), TANZINA (S. Bogenhuber) and SHOCKING BLUE (J. Byrne) were slow to begin.

HI JO SILVER (B. Stewart) began awkwardly.

Near the 2000m CLANGOR (R. McMahon), GOLD COAST GIRL (A. Butler), OBJECT OF VIRTUE (J. Watkins) and KEN AND KIM (B. Richardson) were all tightened for room by HI JO SILVER, which shifted in. At the same stage SHOCKING BLUE resented being restrained and got its head in the air and raced ungenerously for a short distance.

DUEL SHOW (J. Stanley) raced three wide throughout.

When asked to explain the performance of DUEL SHOW, J. Stanley explained that after enduring a three wide run for a major part of the race, DUEL SHOW did not quicken under his riding in the home straight and in his opinion does not run out a strong 2100m, particularly on today’s rain-affected track. A post-race veterinary examination of DUEL SHOW failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 5: THE GOOD GUYS QTIS 3YO H’CAP – APPROX. 1300m
1st – Double Impact 2nd – Black Cash 3rd – Viking Heart 4th – Lucky Morna

As apprentice T. Lovelock-Wiggins was to be overweight, apprentice A. Butler was substituted as the rider of CALLAN PARK, PRIME COGNAC (Race 6) and GO CART (Race 8). Apprentice Lovelock-Wiggins was fined $600 for 3 breaches of AR. 120(b). Apprentice Lovelock-Wiggins was also fined $100 under LR. 61(1) for failing to produce a letter of authority.

Trainer R. Heathcote advised that BRILLIANT DRAGON (J. Byrne) would be ridden forward from the wide barrier if circumstances permit. After beginning awkwardly the horse settled in a handy position wide on the track.

Connections advised that due to the prevailing track conditions WIN FOR LAYLA (J. Ford) would be ridden closer to the lead today if circumstances permit. The horse settled towards rear of the field.

DIVINE CITY (P. Hammersley) was slow to begin.

BRILLIANT DRAGON jumped away awkwardly, shifted out and bumped ZED MAN (G. Killen).

ZED MAN and BRILLIANT DRAGON raced wide throughout.

Near the 250m SHOW A PRINCE (G. Colless) shifted out and brushed LUCKY MORNA (C. Munce).

Race 6: DRUMBEATS @ LYNDHURST 1MW H’CAP - 1010m
1st – Bruleur 2nd – Theft 3rd – Rapid Leica Dane 4th – Mount Kosciuszko

SLICE AND DICE (R. McMahon) faltered after jumping away and lost ground.

POINTE DANCER (B. Looker) was slow to begin.

BRULEUR (A. Allen), POINTE DANCER, TORNADOES (E. Wilkinson) and ROYAL CHARGER (L. Cassidy) all raced wide throughout.

Near the 400m ROYAL CHARGER had to be steadied when tightened for room between POINTE DANCER and MOUNT KOSCIUSZKO (J. Taylor), which shifted out away from the heels of the tiring LOTSAMOOLA (G. Colless).

SLICE AND DICE was held up rounding the home turn and until the 250m.

Near the 250m ROYAL CHARGER and RAPID LEICA DANE (J. Byrne) made contact.

After passing the winning post it was evident that the hind bumper tape of MOUNT KOSCIUSZKO had become loose. After interviewing trainer B. Costello, stewards were satisfied that he had fulfilled his obligations under the rules in properly stitching the bumper tapes and no further action was taken.

Race 7: CHANNEL SEVEN NUDGEE F&M H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Vipera Gold 2nd – Whateverwhenever 3rd – Just Destiny 4th – Crystal Doll

Correct weight was delayed to allow stewards to view the patrol footage of an incident near the 700m involving VIPERA GOLD (C. Munce), 1st placegetter, and WHATEVERWHENEVER (S. Galloway), 2nd placegetter. After viewing the footage stewards did not wish to proceed with the matter and correct weight was declared. It was established that approaching the 700m VIPERA GOLD (C. Munce) commenced to overrace and had to be restrained from the heels of WIN A MILLION (P. Hammersley) and shifted out taking WHATEVERWHENEVER wider on the track.

JASMINKA (R. McMahon), which was fractious in the barriers, began awkwardly and lost ground.

GEBLITZT (J. Byrne) was slow to begin.

BINGO ROSE (M. Hellyer) and WHATEVERWHENEVER (S. Galloway) raced wide throughout.

Passing the 800m when the pace steadied, JASMINKA commenced to overrace and had to be steadied from the heels of SKATING ON ICE (B. Stewart).

Approaching and passing the 700m GEBLITZT commenced to overrace and had to be restrained from the heels of VIPERA GOLD.

Stewards sought an explanation from B. Stewart regarding the performance of SKATING ON ICE. B. Stewart stated that from an inside barrier he would have liked to have settled in a handy position but the mare was unable to muster any early speed in the prevailing track conditions. B. Stewart added that from the 600m he trailed the fancied runner CATASHEE, however it did not take him into the race and he was obliged to take a narrow run to the inside of that runner near the 500m. B. Stewart further stated that SKATING ON ICE made steady ground in the home straight and he was not dissatisfied with today’s performance given the circumstances.

J. Ford reported that CATASHEE did not handle today’s rain-affected track conditions.

S. Galloway, the rider of WHATEVERWHENEVER, was reprimanded for using the whip in a forehand manner more than 5 times prior to the 100m.

A post-race veterinary examination of JASMINKA failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 8: SKY INTERNATIONAL BENCHMARK 90 H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Mondean 2nd – Product 3rd – Headhunter 4th – Streetson

MONDEAN (D. Browne) jumped awkwardly, shifted in and made heavy contact with STREETSON (J. Taylor) which was taken in across the running of GO CART (A. Butler), which was inconvenienced.

When asked to explain the disappointing performance of DEE BEE NINE, rider G. Colless stated that the gelding travelled well until placed under pressure upon straightening and did not quicken from that point and was disappointing. Trainer M. Dunn advised that DEE BEE NINE would now be sent for an immediate spell.
