Supplementary Report

Apprentice B. Wallace was fined $100 for failing to produce a letter of authority from his master. (LR61(1)(2).

Apprentice J .Wood was fined $100 for failing to produce his winning rides book.

From Doomben, 30.11.11 – Race 6

Stewards concluded an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding P. Schmidt, rider of TISANI BOY, J. Letherby, rider of HUSSMINDA, L. Cassidy, rider of LUMINOUS HARMONY, and B. Abbey, rider of MOHAWK, being dislodged from their mounts leaving the 400m. After taking evidence from the abovementioned riders and C. Munce, rider of I’M THE ONE, stewards concluded that approaching the 400m, I’M THE ONE commenced to tire and lose ground. At the same stage, RETROSPECT (J. Byrne) improved to the outside of I’M THE ONE and I’M THE ONE shifted in and away from that horse, reducing the racing room of TISANI BOY. P. Schmidt, rider of TISANI BOY, when attempting to react to this, brought her mount away from the heels of I’M THE ONE, commenced to lay out and struck the heels of I’M THE ONE and fell. This further resulted in MOHAWK, HUSSMINDA and LUMINOUS HARMONY falling when unable to avoid the fallen TISANI BOY. Stewards found that the manner in which I’M THE ONE tired, the fact that it shifted in and away from RETROSPECT when the horse improved around it, and the racing manners of TISANI BOY, had all contributed to the incident and stewards did not believe any direct action was warranted.

From Doomben, 18.2.12 – Race 4

Trainer S. O’Dea was issued with a reprimand under the provisions of AR117(3) for removing AMBER’S CROWN from the course prior to the prescribed time. Mr O’Dea reported that AMBER’S CROWN had recoved well from competing in this race and he was of the opinion that the filly is better suited on tracks with some give in the ground, and further that the mare would be kept to shorter distances in the future.

From Sunshine Coast, 19.2.12 – Race 8

Jockey D. Browne, rider of KNOX, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137(b), in that he failed to ride his mount out to the finish of the race. In assessing penalty, stewards were of the opinion that jockey Browne’s actions had cost his mount 4th placing. Jockey Browne was fined $400. In assessing penalty stewards took into account jockey Browne’s unblemished record under this rule.

Race 1: Sequalo@Lyndhurst 3yo Maiden H'cap – 1200m
1st – Blissful Belle 2nd – Relentless Heart 3rd – Denwood 4th – Fine Gold

The start of this race was delayed when DENWOOD was reluctatant to proceed to the barriers during its preliminary and dislodged A. Allen on 2 occasions. On the second occasion, DENWOOD galloped for a short distance riderless before being recaptured, and once arriving at the barriers was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start. Trainer T. Hall was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding for this occurrence after taking into account that DENWOOD was first up today from a spell and was having its first start for its stable.

Apprentice A. Allen reported that it was not his intention to lead on DENWOOD today, however the gelding overraced in the early stages and he was unable to surrender the lead to RELENTLESS HEART (C. Munce) approaching the 800m. Mr T. Hall, trainer of DENWOOD, confirmed that the horse is best ridden with cover, however considering the gelding’s pre-race manners today he felt this had an effect on the horse racing unkindly in the early stages.

When the pace slackened near the 800m, BLISSFUL BELLE (R. Wiggins) had to be restrained from the heels of FINE GOLD (J. Taylor) and shifted out, resulting in FAIRLY GREEN (D. Sparks) being inconvenienced and taken wider on the track.

DENWOOD shifted out roundng the home turn and brushed RELENTLESS HEART.

FAIRLY GREEN was inclined to lay in when placed under pressure over the final 300m.

FINE GOLD lost its near fore plate in running.

Race 2: SITA Australia Brisbane Bloodstock Bonus 2yo Maiden Plate - 1110m
1st – Substation 2nd – Covert Charmour 3rd – Style Music 4th - Koitaki

Trainer T. Green was fined $100 failing to correctly lodge a stable return for SUBSTATION. Ms Green was also reprimanded for presenting that runner late into the enclosure.

As R. McMahon was to be overweight, J. Taylor was substituted as the rider of KOITAK. R. McMahon was fined $200.

WONDERFUL ARCH, which was kicked by another runner in the enclosure, was examined by the veterinary surgeon upon arrival at the barriers and cleared to start.

KING BOB (L. Rolls) was checked at the start when tightened for room between HOLIER THAN THOU (J. Kropp) and COVERT CHARMOUR (J. Byrne), which began very awkwardly and shifted in abruptly.

KOITAKI (J. Taylor) was slow to begin.

J. Byrne, rider of COVERT CHARMOUR, reported that his mount raced greenly throughout. As a result of racing greenly, COVERT CHARMOUR hung in under pressure over the final 200m, which resulted in J. Byrne being unable to ride his mount in his normal manner. Trainer M. Dunn advised that COVERT CHARMOUR would now be sent for an immediate spell. Stewards advised Mr Dunn that a warning would now be placed on COVERT CHARMOUR regarding its racing manners.

J. Taylor, rider of the 4th placegetter, KOITAKI, was reprimanded for failing to ride his mount right out to the finish of the race.

When asked to explain the disapointing performance of DURBANITE, rider G. Colless explained that the filly never travelled well today and, in his opinion, may not have been suited to racing inside of horses and he was disappointed with the filly’s failure to finish the race off. Trainer B. Guy advised that he expected the filly to win today as it had trialled well recently and he would now experiment with the addition of blinkers. He was also of the opinoin that DURBANITE will be better suited over longer distances than that of today’s race. A post-race veterinary examination of DURBANITE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Stewards sought an explanation from L. Rolls regarding the performance of KING BOB. L. Rolls stated that KING BOB was a little slow to begin and then had to be checked soon after the start and as a result the gelding settled at the rear of the field. He added that when placed under pressure from the 600m the gelding did not respond to his riding and proved disappointing. He added that, in his opinion, KING BOB raced like a tired horse. Trainer J. Peterson advised that KING BOB would now be sent for an immediate spell.

Race 3: Sky Racing Class 4 H'cap - 1650m
1st – Interview 2nd – Dodging Eddie 3rd – Starlin 4th – Banana Kick

Approaching the 700m, DODGING EDDIE (C. Munce) was tightened for room between BLACKGOLD (J. Hoopert) and STARSTREAMED (P. Wolfgram), which when overracing shifted out despite the efforts of its rider.

STARSTREAMED overraced in the early and middle stages.

INTERVIEW (T. Bell) was held up when unable to secure clear running in the home straight until approaching the 200m where he obtained a run to the inside of STARLIN (D. Browne) when that runner shifted out slightly under pressure.

STARSTREAMED hung in under pressure in the home straight.

BANANA KICK (J. Byrne) hung in when placed under pressure over the final 300m.

BLACKGOLD lost its near hind plate in running.

Approaching the 200m, CHOOSE GREATNESS shifted out under pressure and brushed VOLATILE MATTER (T. Bell).

Stewards sought an explanation from J. Bryne regarding the performance of BARELY A FIB. J. Byrne stated that he was able to obtain cover in the early stages and when the race developed into a sprint home from the 600m, BARELY A FIB was immediately under pressure and did not respond to his riding in the home straight. Trainer R. Heathcote was unable to offer any explanation for today’s disappointing performance, adding that he would now add blinkers to the gelding and continue with its current preparation. Mr Heathcote undertook to advise stewards of any abnormality which may come to light in the days following the race which may have had a bearing on today's performance.

Race 5: Bollinger Champagne F&M H'cap - 1350m
1st – Emplus 2nd – Dark Matter 3rd – Emmz 4th – Eight Carat

SON DE CLOCHETTES (C. Munce), OUR LITTLE MISSY (S. Drake) and HETTY (T. Lovelock-Wiggins) were slow to begin.

OUR LITTLE MISSY (S. Drake) overraced in the early stages and threw its head in the air when being restrained.

Stewards sought an explanation from T. Lovelock-Wiggins regarding the performance of HETTY. He explained that after being slow to begin HETTY travelled comfortably in a rearward position and after passing the 800m he shifted 3 wide and improved his position. He added that approaching the home turn he was able to obtain a trail following the eventual winner, EMPLUS, however from the 400m the filly did not respond to his riding and was disappointing. Trainer K. Schweida was unable to explain today’s performance and undertook to have veterinary tests carried out and will report the results to stewards.

Jockey L. Cassidy reported to stewards that RAFFLES MISS did not feel comfortable in its action in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination of RAFFLES MISS failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

When overracing near the 700m BUSTOPHER JONES (M. Hellyer) had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of FLAGGES FLYING (J. Taylor).

Approaching and rounding the home turn, BUSTOPHER JONES was held up and unable to improve.

Between the 200m and 100m, PERFECT PUZZLE (R. Wiggins) and BUSTOPHER JONES (M. Hellyer) bumped on a number of occasions.

TAIL AND ALL (R. Hurdle) raced 3 wide throughout.

Race 7: Landfill Logistics Qld Class 3 Plate – 1110m
1st – Sinister Prince 2nd – Devils Melody 3rd – Tabassi 4th – St Darci

Trainer R. Heathcote advised that STARLISTIC will be ridden in a forward position if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.

Approaching the 1000m, SINISTER PRINCE (L. Rolls) shifted in and made contact with STARLISTIC (R. Hurdle).

Near the 900m, STARLISTIC shifted out and contacted SINISTER PRINCE.

Near the 700m, INADEQUATE (T. Bell) had to be eased from the heels of ST DARCI (R. McMahon), which shifted in when not quite clear. R. McMahon, rider of INADEQUATE, was issued with a reprimand and advised to provide his fellow riders with greater clearance in future.

STARLISTIC shifted out under pressure rounding the home turn, which resulted in SINISTER PRINCE obtaining a run to the inside of that mare.

Leaving the 200m, TABASSI (T. Lovelock-Wiggins) shifted in under pressure, which resulted in STARLISTIC being inconvenienced. In this incident, STARLISTIC was accidentally struck over the head by the whip of T. Lovelock-Wiggins, rider of TABASSI. T.
