Race 1: FRESH FOOD KIDS APPEAL CLASS 6 H’CAP – 1600M
1st – Interview 2nd – Horoscopes 3rd – Santo De Lago 4th – Diago
DIAGO (E. Wilkinson) was slow to begin.
I’LLBETRICKED (A. Spinks) lost its position shortly after the start after being tightened for room between HOROSCOPES (L. Cassidy) and LEMIEUX (K. Pope), which shifted in on jumping away.
HOROSCOPES raced fiercely and got its head on the side rounding the first turn.
Shortly after entering the back straight GOD’S HAND commenced to overrace and when being steadied from the heels of OUR RECIDIVIST (C. Munce) shifted out. GOD’S HAND was then obliged to race three wide for the remainder of the event.
Rounding the home turn GOD’S HAND (A. Allen) had to be steadied from the heels of DIAGO when that horse shifted out to improve.
G. Colless, the rider of SANTO DE LAGO, and E. Wilkinson, the rider of DIAGO, reported that the slow tempo of the race during the middle stages disadvantaged their mounts.
Stewards sought an explanation in respect of the performance of LEMIEUX. Rider K. Pope stated that the horse travelled comfortably in the lead but when he placed LEMIEUX under pressure approaching the 400m when INTERVIEW commenced to take closer order, LEMIEUX was immediately under pressure and failed to respond to his riding thereafter. K. Pope added that whilst the horse sweated up in the enclosure, this was not unusual and the horse proved very disappointing. Stable representative E. Petrie could offer no explanation for the horse’s poor performance and undertook to advise stewards should anything come to light in coming days which may have had an effect on its performance. A post-race veterinary examination of LEMIEUX revealed no significant findings.
Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to DEAD 5, retrospective.
Race 2: BRISBANE SCREENPRINTING AND DISPLAYS OPEN H’CAP – 2000M
1st – Contract Caterer 2nd – Za Magic 3rd – Shamardashing 4th – Winmara
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, apprentice T. Bell, the rider of 3rd placegetter SHAMARDASHING, exercised his right to view the stewards’ patrol footage to determine whether he had grounds on which to lodge a protest against 2nd placegetter ZA MAGIC (E. Wilkinson). After viewing the film, apprentice Bell lodged a protest against ZA MAGIC, alleging interference over the concluding stages. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the patrol film, it was established that near the 100m SHAMARDASHING had established a run between CONTRACT CATERER (P. Hammersley) and ZA MAGIC. A short distance later ZA MAGIC shifted out, reducing SHAMARDASHING’s racing room, however stewards did not feel that the interference suffered as a result of the shift from ZA MAGIC had a material effect on the finishing placings and dismissed the objection.
GO CART (R. Wiggins) was slow to begin.
Apprentice A. Allen reported that it had been his intention to ride KEVEJON in a rearward position, however shortly after the start the horse commenced to race fiercely and he was obliged to allow it to stride forward to the position outside the leader.
Apprentice T. Bell (SHAMARDASHING) reported that he would have liked to maintain a one-off position during running, however when SHAMARDASHING laid inwards away from CONTRACT CATERER near the 1400m, he was obliged to go to the fence. T. Bell added that he would have liked to come to the outside in the straight but was unable to do so due to POOR JUDGE (M. Vance) racing forward of him and to his outside. T. Bell added that SHAMARDASHING was also reluctant to shift outwards. Apprentice Bell further added that he then had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight.
C. Munce informed stewards that ROYAL REIGN, which was having its first start since 28 January, peaked on its run inside the 200m.
Race 3: WICKED ENERGY DRINK QTIS 2YO H’CAP – 1350M
1st – Holey Gadoley 2nd – Wonderful Jester 3rd – Gibberer 4th – Sinusoidal
Connections advised that SINUSOIDAL (C. Munce) would be ridden in a forward position if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.
CRAIGLEA GINGER (J. Kropp), CRAIGLEA CARINA (K. Wharton) and KOITAKI (J. Taylor) were slow to begin.
CHRISTINE (E. Wilkinson) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out making contact with WONDERFUL JESTER (T. Bell).
GIBBERER (R. McMahon) jumped out at the start and bumped SINUSOIDAL.
MIDNIGHT FURY jumped away awkwardly.
Near the 500m COVERT CHARMOUR (G. Colless) shifted out around the heels of HOLEY GADOLEY (L. Cassidy) to improve and in doing so forced OUTBACK FIGHTER (B. Richardson) wider on the track. SINUSOIDAL, which was following, had to be steadied and then shifted out hampering WONDERFUL JESTER. SINUSOIDAL then laid out rounding the home turn, taking WONDERFUL JESTER wider on the track.
A post-race veterinary examination of COVERT CHARMOUR (G. Colless) revealed no significant findings.
A post-race veterinary examination of KOITAKI (J. Taylor) revealed the filly to be shinsore in the near foreleg. Trainer T. Crane was advised that if the horse starts within 6 weeks of today’s race, it will require a veterinary certificate of fitness.
Race 4: JAE MY HOLDINGS OPEN H’CAP – 1350M
1st – Mystical Grey 2nd – Jasminka 3rd – Shuffle The Cash 4th – Mr Slick
MR SLICK (P. Hammersley) and SHUFFLE THE CASH (M. Wood) were slow to begin.
When provided with the opportunity of explaining the performance of ROCKDALE, jockey L. Cassidy stated that he was obliged to pressure the horse early to gain a position outside of the leader and as a result ROCKDALE tired over the final 300m. L. Cassidy added that ROCKDALE will be better suited in races over a longer distance than today’s event where the gelding can obtain an easier lead and be allowed to dictate the pace during the middle stages.
Race 5: INGHAMS QTIS 3YO H’CAP – 1600M
1st – What About Me 2nd – Arctic 3rd – Lightning Vault 4th – Captain Fastbuck
Trainer R. Heathcote was fined $100 for failing to declare apprentice A. Allen as the rider of THAT’S KARMA by the prescribed time.
CARLSON’S FELT (L. Cassidy) jumped in at the start and bumped ARCTIC (R. McMahon). A short distance later CARLSON’S FELT again shifted in resulting in ARCTIC having to be steadied when taken across the heels of OUTBACK GRANDE (J. Brown).
THAT’S KARMA (A. Allen), which was slow to begin, was tightened for room shortly after the start between DEFENCEMAN (P. Hammersley), which was taken out by WHAT ABOUT ME (G. Colless), and SECRET GARDEN (J. Taylor), which shifted in.
DOREBOY (J. Kropp) and COLLECTOR (K. Wharton) overraced in the early stages.
COLLECTOR raced wide throughout.
Near the 300m COLLECTOR was momentarily hampered when ARCTIC shifted out to improve.
P. Hammersley reported that DEFENCEMAN was one-paced in the run to the finish and did not accelerate as expected when the pace quickened inside the final 500m.
SECRET GARDEN was inclined to lay in when placed under pressure over the final 200m and approaching and passing the 100m was held up and unable to improve.
Apprentice J. Kropp, the rider of DOREBOY, was reprimanded for using the whip on a horse out of contention.
THAT’S KARMA lost its off hind plate in running.
Race 6: COCA-COLA 1MW H’CAP – 1010M
1st – The Ringmaster 2nd – Norocos 3rd – Lucky Deluchi 4th – Cyclone Brad
TEN SECONDS (R. Wiggins) was slow to begin.
NOROCOS (C. Munce) and THE RINGMASTER (P. Hammersley) raced wide throughout.
Near the 100m TEN SECONDS had to be steadied when it became awkward on the heels of LUCKY DELUCHI (K. Wharton), which shifted out.
Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to DEAD 4, retrospective.
Race 7: DAVKING 0MW H’CAP – 1350M
1st – Snip N Duck 2nd – Bingo Rose 3rd – Zeditave Plus 4th – Delago Pilli
Trainer P. Hulbert was reprimanded for failing to declare A. Spinks as the rider of AL FAHER by the prescribed time.
Approaching the 1100m SNIP N DUCK (P. Keane) overreacted when steadied from the heels of AL FAHER (A. Spinks) and got its head up. This resulted in ZEDITAVE PLUS (R. Wiggins) and BY CHOICE (R. McMahon), which were trailing and had commenced to race fiercely approaching this point, having to be restrained by their respective riders. ZEDITAVE PLUS and BY CHOICE continued to overrace and ZEDITAVE PLUS was obliged to shift out off the heels of SNIP N DUCK and was then obliged to race three wide for the remainder of the event.
MOHAWK (W. Abbey), TELESTO WARRIOR (J. Kropp) and TROMBONE ALLEY (M. Vance) raced wide throughout.
J. Taylor reported that BINGO ROSE did not show its customary early speed today and when it appeared it may be caught three wide, he restrained the horse to a trailing position behind BY CHOICE in the early part of the race in order to obtain a position closer to the fence.
When asked to explain the performance of GEBLITZT, rider C. Munce stated that the mare overraced in the early and middle stages and as a result was unable to finish the race off as expected. Trainer S. O’dea advised that GEBLITZT will now be sent for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination of GEBLITZT revealed no significant findings.
Race 8: PINE VALLEY CLASS 6 PLATE – 1200M
1st – Paris Blu 2nd – Sinister Prince 3rd – The Reveller 4th – Come Said The Boy
Connections advised that from the wide barrier STEEL DRAGON (R. Wiggins) would be ridden in a more rearward position today. The horse was ridden accordingly.
THEFT (C. Munce) raced wide throughout and shortly after entering the straight commenced to lay in and got its head on the side when tiring.
COME SAID THE BOY (J. Wood) laid in over the concluding stages, placing its rider at a disadvantage in fully testing the horse.
Stewards sought an explanation in respect of the seemingly improved performance of PARIS BLU (M. Vance). Trainer B. Baldwin stated that at the horse’s first-up performance in open fillies and mares grade it was forced to work hard in the early stages of the race to take the position outside the leader and whilst it weakened over the concluding stages he was pleased with the horse’s performance. He added that at the horse’s most recent start, it did not stretch out at any stage on the heavy track. Mr Baldwin further added that PARIS BLU pulled up well after its last run and he had a veterinary examination carried out on the horse in the days following the race which revealed no abnormalities. Mr Baldwin added that he had backed off on the horse during the week and he freshened it up in the hope that it would improve back on a firmer surface.
G. Colless reported that BLUE JUPITER did not travel well for him during running and proved disappointing in the run to the finish. He added that the horse at this stage of its career may be best suited on rain-affected tracks.
