SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:
From Doomben 10.3.12 – Race 1: Trainer’s representative E. Petrie advised that LEMIEUX had been inspected by the stable’s veterinary surgeon, with no abnormalities detected. He reported that the gelding had pulled up well and will continue with its current preparation.
From Sunshine Coast 11.3.12 – Race 7: Trainer’s representative E. Petrie reported that following this event KNOX underwent a veterinary inspection, which failed to reveal any abnormalities, and would now continue with the gelding’s current preparation.
GENERAL:
Following track downgrading, stewards acceded to requests by trainers to scratch their runners, as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Race 1: BLACKWOODS 3YO C&G MAIDEN PLATE - 1020m
1st – Rock Academy 2nd – Someday 3rd – So Sharply 4th – Amici’s Hope
SO SHARPLY (L. Cassidy) and SAVANNAH GOLD (D. Gill) were both slow to begin.
Approaching the 700m SAVANNAH GOLD improved up on to the heels of SOMEDAY (L. Rolls) and had to be steadied.
AMICI’S HOPE (J. Wood) raced greenly when placed under pressure in the straight and near the 100m shifted in and bumped SO SHARPLY.
Race 2: CRC 3YO FILLIES MAIDEN PLATE - 1020m
1st – More Bubbly 2nd – Don’t Tell Cyril 3rd – Little Feather 4th – Floral Garden
LUDO ROCK (A. Pattillo) began awkwardly and shifted out making contact with DARLIN’ JULES (L. Cassidy).
PEDIMENT (A. Spinks) began awkwardly.
BELINDA KRISTIE (J. Taylor) raced wide for the majority of the event before yielding ground badly over the final 400m. J. Taylor was of the opinion that the horse failed to handle the prevailing track conditions.
LITTLE FEATHER (M. Vance) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight.
Jockey A. Spinks reported that PEDIMENT wanted to hang out for the majority of the event.
Following the running of this event the track was downgraded to SLOW 7.
Race 3: UVEX MAIDEN PLATE - 1640m
1st – Barely A Fib 2nd – Town Dazzler 3rd – Only The Strong 4th – Dark Matter
SIR JOEL (M. Hellyer), which was fractious in the barriers, was slow to begin.
SEVEN FIFTY (N. Perrett) was crowded on jumping away between HEART OF TEXAS (J. Taylor) and ONLY THE STRONG (A. Allen), both of which shifted ground.
HEART OF TEXAS overraced in the early stages of the event.
BARELY A FIB (D. Browne) raced ungenerously for a short distance near the 1300m.
ONLY THE STRONG and SEVEN FIFTY both raced wide for the majority of the event.
Leaving the 200m the whip of J. Taylor (HEART OF TEXAS) was accidentally knocked from his grasp by R. McMahon (DARK MATTER).
M. Hellyer, the rider of SIR JOEL, reported that the horse had a tendency to hang out for the majority of the event.
Race 4: SEPTONE BM80 H’CAP - 1640m
1st – Start Again 2nd – One Lickety Split 3rd – Billum 4th – Dobros
ENCOSTAS GIFT (B. Wallace) was slow to begin.
ENCOSTAS GIFT overraced for a short distance leaving the 1300m.
ISLAND TYCOON (R. Hancock) raced wide for the majority of the event.
ENCOSTAS GIFT lost its off hind plate in running.
Race 5: NITTO MAIDEN H’CAP - 1350m
1st – Sir Esmond 2nd – Belladonna Delago 3rd – Canshelove 4th – Djebel’s Impact
DIGNIFY (R. McMahon) and BELLADONNA DELAGO (M. Gray) were slow to begin.
Shortly after the start KISSENGARNI (J. Taylor) and CANSHELOVE (P. Hammersley) came together and bumped.
Approaching the 1200m CANSHELOVE was crowded for room when racing between DAD’S APPRENTICE (J. Drury) and KISSENGARNI, which shifted out and away from LONHROAD (K. Matheson). In this incident CANSHELOVE clipped the heels of KISSENGARNI and blundered.
Approaching the 800m BELLADONNA DELAGO overraced at the heels of KUAN YIN (G. Colless) and in doing so shifted out inconveniencing DIGNIFY.
SIR WILLIAM (N. Tomizawa), DAD’S APPRENTICE and VENOM (L. Rolls) raced wide for the majority of the event.
BELLADONNA DELAGO was held up for clear running rounding the home turn when caught behind the tiring KISSENGARNI.
G. Colless reported that in his opinion KUAN YIN failed to handle the prevailing track conditions.
D. Green, the rider of SIR ESMOND, was reprimanded for making a celebratory gesture prior to his mount passing the winning post.
Race 6: CIGWELD CLASS 3 PLATE - 1350m
1st – Starlin 2nd – Stage Exit 3rd – Inadequate 4th – Igles Star
HE IS LOYAL, which was injured en route to the track, was a late scratching at 2.18 p.m. on veterinary advice. Trainer M. Callaghan was advised that he must produce a veterinary clearance for HE IS LOYAL prior to its next start.
CASTLE EXPRESS (L. Cassidy) and MONTALBERT (A. Kitson) were tightened on jumping away between STARLIN (D. Browne) and STAGE EXIT (A. Allen), both of which shifted ground.
Near the 400m GOTCHA (P. Hammersley) became tightened for room and faltered when racing between ST DARCI (R. McMahon), CLASPED (J. Brown) and STAGE EXIT. At a subsequent inquiry it was established that CLASPED had shifted out and away from STAGE EXIT and at that same point ST DARCI had a tendency to lay in which contributed to the tightening. Nonetheless, apprentice A. Allen (STAGE EXIT) was reprimanded for the manner in which he attempted to shift ground at that point.
Leaving the 300m INADEQUATE (T. Bell) was disappointed for a run to the inside of STARLIN (D. Browne) and as a result had to alter course.
L. Cassidy, the rider of CASTLE EXPRESS, reported that his horse raced ungenerously and threw its head in the air in the early stages of the event.
R. McMahon reported that ST DARCI had a tendency to lay in under pressure in the straight.
INADEQUATE lost its near fore plate in running.
Race 7: MASTERLOCK CLASS 3 H’CAP - 1110m
1st – Geological 2nd – Cryon 3rd – Embraer 4th – Enemyatthegate
Apprentice A. Allen was fined $100 for negligently weighing out without irons.
The start of this race was initially delayed as a result of EMBRAER (T. Bell) having to be resaddled at the barrier. The start was further delayed after a veterinary examination was required of EMBRAER after the gelding became fractious in the barriers. After examination, the horse was passed fit to start.
LEGAL DIVA (N. Tomizawa) and CRYON (L. Cassidy) began awkwardly.
EMBRAER and GEOLOGICAL (R. Wiggins) made contact on jumping away.
PHANTOMOFTHEOPERA (C. Munce) and ENEMYATTHEGATE (A. Spinks) raced wide for the majority of the event.
CRYON had difficulty obtaining clear running between the 250m and the 150m.
Approaching the 100m THREE MONKEYS had to be steadied off the heels of GEOLOGICAL when that horse shifted out to improve. R. Wiggins was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
D. Griffin, rider of THREE MONKEYS, reported that his saddle shifted back shortly after the start, placing him at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event.
M. Hellyer, the rider of MY BELLYDANCER, was of the view that the mare failed to handle the prevailing track conditions.
