SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS

From Eagle Farm 17.3.12 –

Race 1: Trainer P. Duff reported that STEEL ZIP pulled up well from its disappointing performance and veterinary tests he had carried out did not reveal any significant findings. Mr Duff added that he would now freshen STEEL ZIP with a view to preparing the gelding for the Winter Carnival.

Race 5: Trainer K. Schweida was issued with a reprimand for adding a girth to FLYING JET without seeking the approval of stewards.

From Sunshine Coast 18.3.12 –

Race 4: M. Gray (STAR ECLIPSE) was fined $100 for using the whip in a forehand manner more than 5 times prior to the 100m.

Race 8: R. Hancock (LOVE THAT CHICK) was fined $100 for using the whip in a forehand manner more than 5 times prior to the 100m.

Race 1: LACHLAN AKERS, THE GOOD GUYS CARSELDINE QTIS 2YO H’CAP - 1350m
1st – Midnight Fury 2nd – Holey Gadoley 3rd – Fantisha 4th – Wonderful Jester

Trainer B. Guy was fined $100 under LR. 67 for failing to declare J. Taylor as the rider of WISP O’WILL by the prescribed time.

GIBBERER (T. Bell), which hit its head in the tie-up stall, underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers and was cleared to start.

WISP O’WILL (J. Taylor) was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start HOLEY GADOLEY (L. Cassidy) shifted out and bumped AHSOKA (G. Cooksley) out on to GIBBERER.

Stewards sought an explanation from apprentice M. McGuren as to why he did not improve his position forward on WONDERFUL JESTER in the back straight when trapped three wide. Apprentice McGuren stated that he was instructed to ride the horse with cover if possible and when it was obvious to him he was going to be trapped wide, he allowed WONDERFUL JESTER to stride forward, however the horse did not feel comfortable in the going and he felt that it would be in the horse’s best interests to take hold and have it travel within itself, bearing in mind that he did not believe being trapped out would be a disadvantage on today’s surface.

Race 2: RUSSELL DANIELS, THE GOOD GUYS BROWNS PLAINS F&M 0MW H’CAP - 1350m
1st – Kumali 2nd – Zamboni 3rd – Moneysaver 4th – Beggin

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer S. Tregea for the late declaration of G. Geran as the rider of DANE PRINCESS.

As apprentice M. Speers was ill, apprentice A. Butler was substituted as the rider of SEVENSPANISHANGELS.

KUMALI (P. Keane) jumped out at the start resulting in DANE PRINCESS (G. Geran) having to be steadied when taken across the heels of MISTY WARRIOR (J. Taylor).

WITHDRU (G. Cooksley) raced wide throughout.

DANE PRINCESS laid in in the straight.

BEGGIN (R. McMahon) was held up for clear running until passing the 250m.

Inside the 200m KUMALI and ZAMBONI (T. Bell) made contact.

Stewards sought an explanation from trainer J. Dann in respect of the seemingly improved performance of KUMALI. Mr Dann informed stewards that at KUMALI’s most recent start it had not run for a month and in his view the rider had ridden KUMALI impatiently on that occasion which resulted in the horse being unable to finish the race off. J. Dann added that KUMALI was only beaten 4 lengths and in the circumstances he felt the performance was full of merit. The explanation was accepted.

Race 3: FRANCIE VINCENT THE GOOD GUYS MT. GRAVATT OPEN H’CAP - 2050m
1st – Shamardashing 2nd – Za Magic 3rd – Go Cart 4th – Winmara

As B. Stewart, rider of KEVEJON, was unable to weigh through illness and was subsequently stood down by the Club doctor, stewards, acting under the provisions of AR. 142, declared correct weight.

LADY CARLSON (P. Keane) was slow to begin.

Stewards sought an explanation for the seemingly disappointing performance of CONTRACT CATERER. P. Hammersley stated that the horse had risen sharply in the weights today and was not comfortable on the heavy surface. He said he believed these were the major factors resulting in the horse’s performance.

Race 4: ALF SAID, THE GOOD GUYS LUTWYCHE QTIS 3YO H’CAP - 1650m
1st – Outback Grande 2nd – Defenceman 3rd – Carlson’s Felt 4th – Goldslick

B. Stewart was replaced by A. Spinks as the rider of DASH O’ VINO.

BEVICO GIRL (R. Hurdle) jumped in at the start and made heavy contact with WHAT ABOUT ME (G. Colless).

Passing the 1500m STAGE EXIT (A. Butler), after being taken in momentarily by OUTBACK GRANDE (M. Vance), made contact with ROCKSAN (G. Cooksley).

Rounding the turn at the 1300m ROCKSAN commenced to overrace and when being steadied shifted out resulting in STAGE EXIT having to steady when forced to race in restricted room between ROCKSAN and DASH O’ VINO (A. Spinks).

Leaving the 800m DASH O’ VINO had to be steadied when tightened for room between WHAT ABOUT ME and ROCKSAN which shifted out off the heels of GOLDSLICK (P. Keane).

BEVICO GIRL was held up for a short distance approaching and passing the 250m.

Stewards questioned apprentice A. Butler as to the reasons he stopped riding STAGE EXIT a short distance inside the 300m, which subsequently led to the horse finishing a considerable distance from the main body of the field. Apprentice Butler stated that whilst STAGE EXIT did not travel comfortably for him in the going in the early stages of the event, the horse felt awkward in its action, in his opinion, rounding the home turn, and after pressuring STAGE EXIT for a short distance hands and heels he became concerned for the horse’s welfare and from that point forward he eased the horse down. A post-race veterinary examination of STAGE EXIT revealed no abnormality. Trainer B. Wakefield stated that he was disappointed with the horse’s performance but was somewhat concerned with the manner in which apprentice Butler had eased the horse down inside the 300m when it appeared to him the horse was maintaining its normal gait. Mr Wakefield undertook to have his stable veterinary surgeon inspect the horse in the days following the event and forward a report of the findings to stewards. Stewards informed Mr Wakefield that they would then make a determination as to whether any action should be taken against the horse.

Race 5: JAMES BROCKHURST, THE GOOD GUYS CAPALABA CLASS 6 PLATE - 1650m
1st – Garozzo 2nd – Horoscopes 3rd – Pin 4th – Nevzlin

INTERVIEW was a late scratching at 9.34 a.m. on veterinary advice.

Trainer B. Wakefield was fined $100 for failing to declare apprentice M. Vance as the rider of DANCE IDOL by the prescribed time.

ENCOSTAS GIFT (B. Wallace) was slow to begin.

TOKAMAK (P. Hammersley) overraced in the early stages.

Rounding the home turn I’LLBETRICKED (A. Spinks) was held up when unable to improve when awkwardly placed at the heels of TOKAMAK.

NEVZLIN (G. Colless) was tightened for room over the concluding stages by GAROZZO (C. Munce) when that runner shifted in under pressure. This resulted in G. Colless being unable to ride his mount out with his normal vigour.

Stewards sought an explanation from apprentice M. McGuren regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of SANTO DE LAGO. Apprentice McGuren stated that he was instructed to ride the horse in a rearward position, as is its customary racing pattern. He added that after taking up a rearward position he was unable to get any closer than three wide and SANTO DE LAGO overraced and refused to settle. He attributed the horse’s failure to finish the race off due to these factors. Trainer L. Kelly confirmed these instructions, however did express some disappointment with apprentice McGuren’s ride in that when the tempo of the race was slow in the early and middle stages and SANTO DE LAGO was racing three wide, he lacked initiative in not allowing the horse to stride forward to obtain the position outside of the leader GAROZZO.

Race 6: MARK TIMMS, THE GOOD GUYS IPSWICH OPEN H’CAP - 1350m
1st – Meet George 2nd – Mr Armstrong 3rd – Streets Away 4th – Triple Honour

Trainer J. Hanna advised that AROUND THE WORLD (N. Yamada) would be ridden in a forward position if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.

JASMINKA (S. Galloway) was fractious in the enclosure and proved difficult to get out on to the track, and when leaving the enclosure hit the running rail. JASMINKA was examined after arriving at the barriers and passed fit to start. When questioned, Trainer B. Smith could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance of JASMINKA today. Stewards, on the basis of JASMINKA’s pre-race manners and performance, advised Mr Smith that the horse must trial satisfactorily before being permitted to start again.

Near the 300m MEET GEORGE (E. Wilkinson) shifted out to improve and bumped TRIPLE HONOUR (R. Hurdle).

Passing the 200m MEET GEORGE shifted in abruptly under pressure before being corrected by its rider.

G. Colless reported at scale that STREETS AWAY raced fresh first up today and as a result took up a more prominent position.

Stewards sought an explanation from apprentice J. Wood regarding his riding of SHUFFLE THE CASH rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight, in particular the reason he did not take advantage of a run between MR SLICK (P. Hammersley) and LAKE GEORGE (L. Rolls) at that stage of the race. After taking evidence from apprentice Wood and trainer B. Guy, the matter was adjourned to enable apprentice Wood’s master, Mr S. Ryan, to attend.

Race 7: DALE ROCHE, THE GOOD GUYS MORAYFIELD C,G&E H’CAP - 1350m
1st – Trombone Alley 2nd – Side To Side 3rd – De Bois 4th – Rapid Leica Dane

Leaving the 1200m DE BOIS (A. Butler) was tightened for room between JIGSAWS (J. Taylor) and RIOQUALO (L. Cassidy), which was taken in slightly by PEGUNNY WARRIOR (J. Stanley).

Leaving the 800m JIGSAWS shifted out taking RIOQUALO outwards resulting in SHOW ME AN ACE (M. McGuren) having to be steadied when taken across the heels of INDUSTRIALISM (T. Bell).

DOUBLE RISE (M. Vance), SHOW ME AN ACE, INDUSTRIALISM and CATCH THE LIGHT (J. Wood) raced wide throughout.

CATCH THE LIGHT was held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight, obliging apprentice J. Wood to shift his mount extremely wide to obtain clear running.

A short distance into the home straight SHOW ME AN ACE became awkward on the heels of DOUBLE RISE and had to be steadied.

G. Colless was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift out near the 250m resulting in RIOQUALO, which was tiring, becoming unbalanced and having to be steadied.

DELAGO PILLI (K. Wharton) bled from both nostrils during the event. Trainer R. Bradshaw was advised that under the provisions of AR. 53A DELAGO PILLI would be ineligible to start for a period of 3 months, and before resuming racing must gallop satisfactorily over 1000m in the presence of a steward.

JIGSAWS lost its near hind plate in running.

Race 8: TATE MASON, THE GOOD GUYS OXLEY CLASS 6 H’CAP - 1110m
1st – Norocos 2nd – Cape Kidnappers 3rd – Maroon Bells 4th – Blue Jupiter

As R. McMahon was stood down by the Club doctor, stewards permitted apprentice P. Keane to be substituted as the rider of BLUE JUPITER when no senior riders were available at the weight.

The start of this race was delayed when SPIRIT OF FLATLEY (J. Taylor) cast a plate whilst parading to the barriers and required farrier attention.

SPIRIT OF FLATLEY and CELTIC DANCER (M. McGuren) were tightened for room at the start between INVENTORY (G. Geran) and ALL THAT (J. Brown), both of which shifted ground. A short distance after this INVENTORY had to be steadied when ALL THAT continued to shift out, taking CELTIC DANCER and SPIRIT OF FLATLEY out, forcing INVENTORY across the heels of THEFIFTHHOLE (L. Cassidy).

ALL THAT laid out for the majority of the event.

Apprentice J. Brown pleaded guilty to a charge under AR. 137(b) in that as the rider of 5th placegetter ALL THAT she failed to ride her mount out to the finish. Apprentice Brown was fined $500. In assessing penalty, stewards were of the view that apprentice Brown’s actions had cost ALL THAT 4th placing.

A post-race veterinary examination of SPIRIT OF FLATLEY, which hung in in the straight and compounded badly, revealed the horse to be suffering the thumps and to be exhibiting a cough. Trainer K. Wood will be advised that a veterinary certificate, along with the results of an endoscopic examination, will be required prior to the horse’s next start.

Apprentice M. McGuren reported that after suffering interference at the start CELTIC DANCER did not travel comfortably in the going and proved disappointing in the run to the line.
