SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:

Following their last race starts, the following horses have undergone operations:

FRASCA and COUNT ROMANO (Tnr. M. Lakey) – surgery to the near fore knee.

Race 1: AIZER ELECTRICAL 2YO H’CAP - 1030m
1st – Lita 2nd – Pretty Face 3rd – Holy Toledo 4th – Phantom Caller

PRETTY FACE (R. Wiggins) was slow to begin.

RICHENZA (T. Bell) and LITA (J. Lloyd) were tightened for room soon after the start between LUCKY ELITE (M. Hellyer), which shifted out, and PHANTOM CALLER (A. Allen). In this incident PHANTOM CALLER became unbalanced when LITA made heavy contact with the hind quarters of that runner.

After passing the 1000m RICHENZA had to be checked when tightened for room between LITA and LUCKY ELITE which, when racing greenly, shifted out away from TAKING REVENGE (B. Richardson). Stewards advised M. Hellyer (LUCKY ELITE) to at all times endeavour to keep his mounts on a straight course and to show due consideration to his fellow riders.

LITA overraced in the early stages and after passing the 700m had to be checked after improving up on to the heels of LUCKY ELITE. As a result of being checked LITA shifted in and tightened the running of RICHENZA.

TAKING REVENGE raced greenly in the early stages.

Near the 500m LUCKY ELITE and TAKING REVENGE were crowded for room by SHAMROCK SLIPPER (P. Keane), which shifted in slightly before being corrected by its rider.

Near the 250m SHAZZLE PAZZLE (A. Taylor) hung in when placed under pressure and became awkward at the heels of HOLY TOLEDO (T. Harrison).

Near the 200m PHANTOM CALLER was inconvenienced by LITA, which shifted out around the heels of SHAZZLE PAZZLE in order to improve.

PRETTY FACE was unable to secure clear running until passing the 200m.

Stewards sought an explanation from C. Munce regarding the performance of GENERAL SON. C. Munce explained that the gelding began well and travelled comfortably in the lead until placed under pressure soon after entering the home straight and was disappointing from that point. Stable representative J. Fleming advised that the stable was expecting a strong forward showing from the gelding and was disappointed with its performance. Mr Fleming did advise stewards that there was some pressure applied to GENERAL SON in the early and middle stages and in his opinion the gelding would derive benefit from the run. A post-race veterinary examination of GENERAL SON revealed no significant findings.

Stewards sought an explanation from A. Taylor regarding the riding tactics adopted on SHAZZLE PAZZLE, particularly the reason for her not steadying her mount when racing three wide outside of the leaders GENERAL SON and HOLY TOLEDO near the 700m when the opportunity existed to take a trailing position behind HOLY TOLEDO. Jockey Taylor explained that she had ridden aggressively from the outside barrier in an attempt to lead and rather than restrain SHAZZLE PAZZLE in the middle stages she was of the opinion that the filly was travelling comfortably in a three wide position and had she elected to restrain, she was of the opinion that this would have been detrimental to the filly’s chances. Stewards noted her explanation.

Apprentice T. Bell reported that RICHENZA raced very greenly throughout the event and near the 500m shifted out abruptly around the heels of LUCKY ELITE.

Race 2: TONY STEPHENS REFRIGERATION 3YO MAIDEN PLATE - 1200m
1st – Silk Traders 2nd – The Singing Bullet 3rd – Billy Jay 4th – Annie’s Bridge

ANNIE’S BRIDGE (A. Spinks) and GOLD BEST (E. Wilkinson) were slow to begin.

HARVEY TYCOON (M. Hellyer) and MAXIRODS (J. Byrne) were severely hampered at the start when THE SINGING BULLET (T. Harrison) jumped awkwardly and shifted in abruptly.

Approaching the 600m THE SINGING BULLET, when overracing, improved between SILK TRADERS (R. Myers) and CAUGHT UNAWARE (R. Wiggins) where there was insufficient room and as a result had to be steadied from the heels of SILK TRADERS.

GOLD BEST raced three wide throughout.

THE SINGING BULLET was inclined to lay in when placed under pressure in the early part of the home straight.

M. Hellyer reported that HARVEY TYCOON never travelled comfortably throughout and was inclined to hang in in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination of HARVEY TYCOON revealed no abnormalities.

Stewards sought an explanation from R. Wiggins regarding the performance of CAUGHT UNAWARE. R. Wiggings stated that the filly lost its footing with its hind legs at the start and following this did not travel comfortably throughout the race. He added that in the home straight he was not comfortable with the action of CAUGHT UNAWARE. Trainer G. Heinrich was disappointed with the performance as CAUGHT UNAWARE had trialled very well recently and she was of the view that the only explanation for the performance was that CAUGHT UNAWARE sustained an injury in beginning very awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination of CAUGHT UNAWARE revealed the filly had sustained a laceration to the off foreleg.

Race 3: ENWISE ELECTRICAL MAIDEN PLATE - 1640m
1st – In Taipei 2nd – Hannibal Ad Portas 3rd – Leo Jet 4th - Toocoolforschool

Connections advised that TOOCOOLFORSCHOOL (J. Lloyd) would be ridden in a more forward position today if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.

THORN MAN (D. Browne) was slow to begin.

At the start CREDIT MISS (R. Myers) and STOPSIGN (A. Spinks) made contact. CREDIT MISS then shifted out and inconvenienced WEE BIT SNOBBY (T. Bell).

When the pace steadied approaching the 1300m ACADANE (P. Schmidt) commenced to overrace and had to be restrained from the heels of HANNIBAL AD PORTAS (T. Harrison) for some distance. At the same stage OUR GRAND FINALE (D. Missen), when overracing, had to be checked from the heels of CREDIT MISS.

TOOCOOLFORSCHOOL and CROATIAN QUALITY (C. Munce) raced three wide throughout.

Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight WEE BIT SNOBBY and HENMAN (R. Wiggins) were held up when unable to improve.

At the entrance to the home straight TOOCOOLFORSCHOOL hung in and when corrected by its rider shifted out abruptly.

After passing the 100m HANNIBAL AD PORTAS shifted out and bumped TOOCOOLFORSCHOOL.

G. Colless reported that IN TAIPEI settled in a forward position due to being caught three wide in the early stages and he elected to proceed forward and settle outside the leader LEO JET (M. Hellyer) near the 800m.

D. Browne stated that THORN MAN was fractious in the barriers and as a result was slow to begin. He added that from that point he elected to settle at the rear of the field and when the pace slowed in the middle stages he attempted to improve his position from the 600m and as HENMAN was not taking him into the race, he shifted wider on the home turn in an attempt to improve but had further difficulty obtaining clear running when awkwardly placed at the heels of MESSNER (J. Byrne). D. Browne added that THORN MAN worked to the line well, although peaked on its run inside the 50m and in his opinion, being second up over 1640m today, the gelding would take a fitness benefit from today’s race.

R. Wiggins (HENMAN) was issued with a reprimand for failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race.

Race 4: CHECK AIR CONDITIONING MAIDEN H’CAP - 1350m
1st – Fouardeeson 2nd – Hi Cody 3rd – She’s Fired Up 4th – Hot Bickies

ALL MY ANGELS (J. Taylor) was slow to begin.

DELLASERA (C. Eaton) and FOUARDEESON (R. Myers) raced three wide throughout.

Race 5: QLD HOME SOLUTIONS BENCHMARK 75 H’CAP - 1350m
1st – Marculoo 2nd – Little Brown Horse 3rd – Kid Tycoon 4th – Fleet Riane

As S. Galloway was ill, T. Bell was substituted as the rider of SUPREME AFFAIR.

MADA (M. Hellyer) and GOLD SHEARS (M. Vance) were slow to begin.

HEARTSUN (D. Browne) overraced in the early stages.

FLEET RIANE (E. Wilkinson), BEDLUM (R. Myers) and SUPREME AFFAIR (T. Bell) raced wide throughout.

Apprentice P. Keane, the rider of LITTLE BROWN HORSE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that approaching the 200m he permitted his mount to shift out when not sufficiently clear of MARCULOO (J. Byrne), resulting in MARCULOO being tightened for room between LITTLE BROWN HORSE and FLEET RIANE and having to be checked to avoid the heels of LITTLE BROWN HORSE and altering course to the inside of that runner. Apprentice Keane’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings, with the term to commence at midnight on Sunday, 8 July, and expire at midnight on Sunday, 15 July 2012.

After passing the 100m MARCULOO shifted to the inside of LITTLE BROWN HORSE (P. Keane) and made heavy contact with MEDESANO (T. Harrison).

Race 6: AC AIRE CONDITIONING CLASS 3 PLATE - 1640m
1st – Karoo 2nd – Valera 3rd – Easy Lager 4th – Spring Queen

The start of this race was delayed when a dog was found to be on the track near the 400m before being removed from the track.

JACOBUS (T. Harrison) was hampered at the start when tightened for room between SPRING QUEEN (R. Myers), which was taken out by BOSSBERG (L. Cassidy), and EASY LAGER (M. Vance), which shifted in.

Approaching the 1400m CASTLE EXPRESS (P. Schmidt) shifted in and made contact with the running rail.

JACOBUS overraced in the middle stages when racing in a three-wide position.

KAROO (E. Wilkinson) was held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

SPRING QUEEN had difficulty securing clear running in the home straight until passing the 200m.

A post-race veterinary examination of BOSSBERG (L. Cassidy), which hung in when placed under pressure in the home straight, revealed no significant findings.

Race 7: PANASONICAIR.COM.AU F&M CLASS 3 H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Welcome Parade 2nd – Karisha 3rd – Little White Horse 4th – Count Your Fingers

Connections advised that from the wide barrier SOUNDS OF CRYSTAL (G. Colless) would be ridden in a rearward position. The horse was ridden accordingly.

CHOIR GIRL (R. Mason) and KENTUCKY BELLE (P. Hammersley) were slow to begin.

ISHI CLASSIC (D. Griffin) overraced in the early stages.

When the pace steadied near the 800m LITTLE WHITE HORSE (P. Keane) commenced to overrace and near the 700m had to shift out to avoid the heels of KARISHA (T. Harrison) and as a result made heavy contact with WELCOME PARADE (R. Myers).

UNREFUSEABLE (A. Spinks) was held up for clear running in the early part of the home straight and near the 250m was disappointed for a run between STREAM OF LIGHT (C. Munce) and LITTLE MISS OMBRA (P. Schmidt).

C. Munce was asked to explain the disappointing performance of STREAM OF LIGHT. He stated that the mare never travelled comfortably throughout the race and did not respond to his riding from the 400m and in his opinion was disappointing. Jockey Munce added that the only tangible explanation he could offer was that STREAM OF LIGHT’s handicap weight of 58kg had increased noticeably from the 54.5 kg the mare carried at its previous start.

Stewards sought an explanation from P. Hammersley with regard to the performance of KENTUCKY BELLE. Jockey Hammersley stated that he was instructed to ride the horse in a midfield position with cover if possible, but after being slow to begin the mare was unable to muster any speed in the early stages and settled at the rear of the field. P. Hammersley added that he continually had to ride KENTUCKY BELLE with vigour in the middle stages in an attempt to maintain contact with the main body of the field and in the home straight the mare worked to the line only fairly.

R. Mason was provided with the opportunity of explaining the performance of CHOIR GIRL, which settled last in the early stages and was unable to maintain contact with the field despite her urgings. Jockey Mason stated that CHOIR GIRL commenced to make up ground from the 400m and finished the race off well in the home straight. She added that the filly will be better suited racing over longer distances than that of today’s event.

Race 8: PANASALES C,G&E CLASS 3 H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Tacker 2nd – Lightning Vault 3rd – Stellar Academy 4th – Richly Blended

Trainer T. McCarthy was fined $400 for the late scratching of AT SPEED at 9.29 a.m. In assessing penalty, stewards took into consideration that another runner had been denied a start.

PICAWINNER (K. Wharton) and SHOW OF STRENGTH (C. Munce) were slow to begin.

LIGHTNING VAULT (T. Bell), STELLAR ACADEMY (T. Harrison) and WHISPERING DEATH (L. Cassidy) raced wide throughout.

Leaving the 250m MUJAHU (M. Hellyer), which was weakening, had to be checked when tightened for room between PICAWINNER, which shifted out, and EMDEE (G. Colless), which was taken in by MOVEASEIDE (R. Myers). Apprentice R. Myers was issued with a severe reprimand and advised that she must make a greater effort in the future to keep her mounts on a straight course.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SHOW OF STRENGTH, C. Munce stated that the horse was a little slow to begin and he attempted to muster speed to take up a forward position closer to the rail, but was unable to do so and as a result was caught wide for the remainder of the event. Jockey Munce added that the horse was under pressure from leaving the 600m and in his opinion was most disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of SHOW OF STRENGTH revealed no significant findings. Stewards will interview trainer L. Tipper regarding this matter.
