From Sunshine Coast 11 November 2012 – Race 8: When questioned as to the performance of CHOIR GIRL, stable representative D. Meagher noted that the mare was having its first start for the stable and in his opinion would be better suited over further distances. Whilst not overly disappointed with the performance he stated that CHOIR GIRL would now be stepped up in distance.

Race 1: RACE ZONE BENCHMARK 85 H’CAP - 1030m
1st – What Happenedhenry 2nd – Power Of Ed 3rd – Kalbo 4th – Piccolo Dynasty

POWER OF ED (M. Cahill) was slow to begin.

KALBO (T. Harrison) shifted out slightly rounding the first turn and brushed WHAT HAPPENEDHENRY (L. Cassidy).

KALBO had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight and near the 250m had to alter course to the outside of WHAT HAPPENEDHENRY in order to improve.

Race 2: BATTERY WORLD AUSTRALIA C,G&E MAIDEN PLATE - 1110m
1st – Classic Bend 2nd – Requirement 3rd – Emerald Duke 4th – All Systems Go

The start of this race was delayed when CLASSIC BEND (C. Munce) proved difficult to load. Trainer B. Baldwin was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s barrier manners.

ALL SYSTEMS GO (R. McMahon) and EMERALD DUKE (T. Harrison) were slow to begin.

HITMAN HARRY (M. Cahill) began awkwardly and lost ground.

EMERALD DUKE and ALL SYSTEMS GO raced three wide throughout.

M. Cahill reported that HITMAN HARRY began awkwardly and never travelled well at any stage and was most disappointing. Trainer D. Pearson was unable to explain today’s disappointing performance and indicated that he will trial the horse prior to its next race start. He added that HITMAN HARRY has performed similarly at its first run back from a spell in previous preparations. A post-race veterinary examination of HITMAN HARRY revealed no abnormalities. A swab sample was taken from HITMAN HARRY.

Race 3: BRISBANE MARRIOTT MAIDEN H’CAP - 1640m
1st – Heater 2nd – Diamond Life 3rd – Urbane 4th – Croatian Quality

Trainer R. Bradshaw’s stable representative Mr R. Sime was advised that a $100 fine would be imposed for the late declaration of M. Hellyer as the rider of DESERT RULER.

Connections advised that DESERT RULER (M. Hellyer) would be ridden back in the field. The horse was ridden accordingly.

CROATIAN QUALITY (J. Lloyd) and ALMASEA (L. Cassidy) made contact at the start.

A short distance after the start DESERT RULER, when being restrained, shifted out across the heels of URBANE (T. Harrison).

C. Munce (HEATER) reported at scale that it was his intention to settle in a forward position, however in the early stages when there was significant pressure applied by CLAYPOOL (D. Browne), GREENWOOD ECHO (A. Mundy) and DIAMOND LIFE (J. Byrne), he elected to restrain his mount and obtain cover.

CROATIAN QUALITY was held up for clear running from the 500m until near the 300 where it had to be restrained from the heels of the tiring GREENWOOD ECHO and shift out in order to improve.

CROATIAN QUALITY again had difficulty securing clear running for a short distance approaching and passing the 200m when attempting to take a narrow run between DESERT RULER and ALMASEA.

Race 4: TIMEFORM CLASS 3 PLATE - 1640m
1st – Germayne Lass 2nd – Mukaddamah 3rd – Shocking Blue 4th – Sharma

SAVEEDA (G. Goold) was hampered soon after the start by SHOCKING BLUE, which shifted out.

Apprentice G. Goold reported that SAVEEDA was under pressure throughout to hold its position and when he placed the horse under pressure if failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. He added that he believed the horse may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer D. Murphy reported that he was disappointed with the horse’s performance and believed it could be attributed to the firm surface today. He advised that SAVEEDA would now be sent for an immediate spell. A post-race veterinary examination of SAVEEDA revealed the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer D. Murphy was advised that a veterinary clearance for SAVEEDA must be provided prior to its next start.

L. Cassidy reported that BARONESS ZEENA overraced in the early stages and in his opinion may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer F. Braybrook confirmed that the horse will now be sent for an immediate spell.

Stewards sought an explanation from C. Munce regarding SHARMA leading by a considerable distance in the middle stages and recording a time of 1:2.55 for the first 1040m. Jockey Munce stated that it was his intention to lead on the gelding, which is the horse’s established racing pattern, but rounding the first turn near the 1300m SHARMA changed legs and began to overrace, and despite his efforts he was unable to restrain the gelding in the middle stages to slow the tempo. Trainer L. Wheeler indicated that he was surprised to see the horse leading by as much as it was today, which he attributed to the gelding overracing in the early and middle stages. He advised that his intention will be to continue with the horse’s current preparation.

Race 5: SIRROMET WINES F&M MAIDEN PLATE - 1110m
1st – Great Cheer 2nd – Jezacious Spirit 3rd – Sequends 4th – I Am Sure

Connections advised that LIQUID NITROGEN (Michael Palmer) would be ridden in a rearward position. The filly settled in a midfield position wide on the track.

TRAINLINE (T. Harrison) and LITTLE AUDREY (J. Byrne) were slow to begin.

QUEEN’S LEGEND (J. Taylor) jumped away awkwardly.

Approaching the first turn ROYALE CROWN (P. Hammersley), when overracing, improved to the inside of LIQUID NITROGEN where there was insufficient room and had to be steadied. At the same stage LITTLE AUDREY, when overracing, shifted out across the heels of ROYALE CROWN.

TRAINLINE raced greenly in the early stages and after passing the 800m, when being steadied from the heels of SILENT ACTRESS (P. Holmes), shifted out and proved difficult to ride.

JEZACIOUS SPIRIT (J. Lloyd) overraced in the early and middle stages.

LIQUID NITROGEN and QUEEN’S LEGEND raced wide throughout.

TRAINLINE hung out rounding the home turn and passing the 400m became awkward at the heels of LITTLE AUDREY. Stable representative Mr S. Morrisey was advised that a warning would be placed on the horse’s racing manners.

ROYALE CROWN was unable to secure clear running in the early part of the straight and near the 250m had to alter course to the inside of SILENT ACTRESS in order to improve.

LITTLE AUDREY lost its off hind plate in running.

QUEEN’S LEGEND lost its near fore plate in running.

Race 6: BUNDABERG DISTILLING CO. CLASS 5 H’CAP - 1200m
1st – By Choice 2nd – Daneomite 3rd – Fractions 4th – Zeditave Plus

Trainer T. Gollan advised stewards that it would be the intention to have BY CHOICE (L. Cassidy) ridden quieter if circumstances permit. BY CHOICE was restrained at the start but then began to overrace and as a result settled in the position outside the leader.

Near the 1100m BY CHOICE, when overracing, shifted in and bumped ZEDITAVE PLUS (E. Wilkinson) on a number of occasions.

ZEDITAVE PLUS raced three wide throughout.

On return to scale C. Munce reported that passing the 600m his whip became entangled in the mane of FRACTIONS and when attempting to release the whip it fell from his grasp.

After passing the winning post VOLUNTARY (T. Harrison) shifted out from the running rail and had to be checked from the heels of RUAPEHU BOY (J. Taylor).

Race 7: COCA-COLA AMATIL QTIS 3YO H’CAP - 1030m
1st – The Conspirator 2nd – Mishani Persuader 3rd – Regillus 4th – Beach Babe

GENERAL JACKSON (K. Pope) shifted out at the start and made heavy contact with SAVAGE YOUNG BLOND (A. Taylor).

COVER UP (L. Cassidy) was slow to begin.

SURF FIRE (T. Harrison) was unable to secure clear running in the home straight and near the 250m had to be checked when disappointed for a run between GENERAL JACKSON and SAVAGE YOUNG BLOND.

Rounding the home turn MISHANI PERSUADER (A. Butler) shifted in and bumped the running rail.

Stewards sought an explanation from K. Pope regarding the performance of GENERAL JACKSON. K. Pope stated that the horse raced fiercely today, which he attributed to being first up for a considerable time, and once challenged in the middle stages by SAVAGE YOUNG BLOND the gelding commenced to hang out. Jockey Pope further added that GENERAL JACKSON peaked on its run near the 100m and weakened from that point. K. Pope added that GENERAL JACKSON is best suited when able to lead unchallenged and control the tempo. A post-race veterinary examination of GENERAL JACKSON revealed no abnormalities.

When asked to explain her riding of SAVAGE YOUNG BLOND, particularly in the early and middle stages where it contested the lead with GENERAL JACKSON, apprentice A. Taylor stated that after beginning well she attempted to restrain SAVAGE YOUNG BLOND with a view to trailing GENERAL JACKSON, but making the first turn GENERAL JACKSON shifted out and brushed SAVAGE YOUNG BLOND, which resulted in the filly commencing to overrace, and despite her efforts she was unable to restrain her mount. She further added that in the middle stages GENERAL JACKSON commenced to lay out and bumped SAVAGE YOUNG BLOND on a number of occasions, which again made the horse overrace. Trainer G. Taylor indicated that the horse had won a trial recently and in his view, being first up from a spell since 26 June, the filly may have been a little too fresh today, which has attributed to its racing manners. The explanations of both parties were noted.

Race 8: SEQUALO @ LYNDHURST STUD CLASS 3 PLATE - 1350m
1st – Not To Share 2nd – Fairy Green 3rd – King Ludwig 4th – Annario

BEVICO GIRL (C. Munce) was checked at the start between VORTEX (J. Taylor) and HEIR EXPRESS (J. Letherby), which jumped awkwardly and shifted out.

ONE TO GO (T. Harrison) jumped away awkwardly.

Approaching the 1000m ANNARIO (E. Wilkinson) commenced to overrace for a short distance and when being restrained lost ground.

EVERYTHING’S SET (M. Cahill) overraced in the middle stages.

KING LUDWIG (S. Bogenhuber) and HARDMAN HARRY (G. Goold) raced wide throughout.

Near the 800m ANNARIO, when overracing, had to be checked from the heels of CALCULATION (M. Speers). At the same stage BEVICO GIRL, when overracing, was restrained from the heels of HEIR EXPRESS and shifted out and made contact with ANNARIO.

KING LUDWIG hung in in the early part of the home straight.

M. Cahill reported that he was unable to fully test EVERYTHING’S SET when racing behind ONE TO GO in the early part of the straight. He added that once he was able to shift to the outside of CALCULATION near the 150m, EVERYTHING’S SET made some ground in the run to the line.

When asked to explain the performance of BEVICO GIRL, C. Munce stated that the mare was very fractious behind the barriers today and although he had anticipated racing in a forward position, after being a little slow to begin BEVICO GIRL was then checked shortly after when tightened for room and as a result raced at the rear of the field. He added that BEVICO GIRL never travelled comfortably and was disappointing in its effort when placed under pressure in the early part of the home straight.

A post-race veterinary examination of HEIR EXPRESS, which compounded in the home straight, revealed no significant findings.
