____________________________

From Doomben, 29.1.12 – Race 5.

Trainer M. Nolan reported that Sir Luminar had pulled up well and blood tests and an endoscopic examination were all clear. He added that he attributed the performance to the colt being second up and having to work hard in the early stages. He added he planned to continue on to the Magic Millions 2-Year Old Classic.

Trainer M. Riley reported that precautionary x-rays taken from I’m Too Sexy were all clear, and blood tests revealed a slightly elevated white cell count, which he attributed to a low grade virus, which was being treated by a course of antibiotics. He added that the filly may have jarred up on Saturday and it is currently the plan to continue on to the Magic Millions 2-Year Old Classic.

Race 1: Skyracing.TV Class 5 H'cap - 1600m
1st – Solebid 2nd – Volcanic Warrior 3rd – Count Romano 4th – Modern Al

VOLCANIC WARRIOR (R. Wiggins) knuckled at the start and shifted in and made heavy contact with MODERN AL (G. Colless).

When the pace steadied approaching the 1200m, SOLEBID (M. Hellyer) shifted out around the heels of COLLECTOR (J. Taylor) and in doing so made contact with MODERN AL.

Race 2: Hidden Dragon @ Lyndhurst CG&E Maiden H'cap – 1350m
1st – Coworth Park 2nd – Drop Shot 3rd – First Officer 4th – Prime Minister

COWORTH PARK (T. Harrison) raced greenly in the home straight, and near the 150m shifted in abruptly before being corrected by its rider.

P. Hammerlsey reported that it was not his intention to lead on CRASHING today but the colt began very well and when there was no early speed to his inside he allowed the horse to stride forward to the lead and attempt to get CRASHING to relax in the middle stages. Jockey Hammersley added that CRASHING did have a tendency to overrace when leading and, in his view, this affected the colt’s capacity to finish the race off. He further stated that CRASHING will be better suited when able to be ridden with cover in future starts. A post race veterinary examination of CRASHING revealed the horse to have a slow post race recovery.

COWORTH PARK lost its off fore plate in running.

Race 3: Mother Energy F&M Maiden H'cap - 1350m
1st – Richenza 2nd – Silent Actress 3rd – Cooloola 4th – Pretty Face

SILENT ACTRESS (J. Lloyd) and PRETTY FACE (M. Vance) were slow to begin.

Near 500m, SILENT ACTRESS shifted out around the heels of RICHENZA (D. Browne) in order to improve, taking ARTIVA (T. Bell) and PRETTY FACE wider on the track.

A post race veterinary examination of PRETTY FACE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 4: Wilston Grange AFC Maiden H'cap – 1600m
1st – Tukiyo 2nd – Miamley 3rd – So Delicious 4th – Rose Of Clare

The start of this race was delayed significantly when HEART OF AYLA (J. Taylor) proved difficult to load. There was a further delay when ROSE OF CLARE (G. Killen) became fractious in the barriers. ROSE OF CLARE was removed from the gates, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to race. Trainer R. Maund was advised that the HEART OF AYLA must perform satisfactorily in 2 official barrier trials before being permitted to race again.

HEART OF AYLA stood flatfooted at the start and lost considerable ground.

HEART OF AYLA was inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

SUPER SORTED (M. Cahill) raced 3 wide throughout.

J. Lloyd reported that RAVACIOUS never travelled comfortably and was inclined to hang out for a major part of the race. A post race veterinary examination of RAVACIOUS failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 5: Wilston Grange AFC Maiden H'cap – 1600m
1st – Roussos Destiny 2nd – Jo’s Luck 3rd – Madhurima 4th – The Pantz

JO’S LUCK (T. Bell) and MADHURIMA (J. Taylor) made contact at the start.

Race 6: Darley Australia Class 4 H'cap – 1350m m
1st – Playitstraight 2nd – Regal Legend 3rd – Slipstreams 4th - Slysera

SLYSERA (G. Goold) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out abruptly, resulting in NOVASPUR (T. Bell) and ELLIE LA VIEW (J. Taylor) being severely hampered.

An explanation was sought from G. Cooksley regarding the riding tactics adopted on SLIPSTREAMS, which was in contrast to its normal racing pattern. G. Cooksley stated that he intended to settle behind the leaders with cover if possible, however SLIPSTREAMS began well and from the wide barrier and rather than be caught wide in the early stages he elected to allow the horse to stride forward to the lead. Trainer Mr S. Lee confirmed that the instructions were to settle in a handy position with cover. Stewards noted the circumstances and reminded Mr Lee of his obligations to advise stewards if he intended to vary riding tactics in future.

Apprentice T. Harrison reported that she was unable to fully ride EMPEROR out with her normal vigour due to the gelding having a tendency to hang in. She added that when she tested the horse with the whip approaching the 200m, it shifted in behind the heels of SLYSERA (G. Goold) and continued to prove difficult to ride over the concluding stages. A post race veterinary examination of EMPEROR revealed the gelding to be lame in both forelegs. Trainer K. Flemming will be advised that he would be required to provide a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to racing again.

Race 7: Mater Dei Schokol CG&E Class 3 H'cap – 1200m
1st – Jazzbo Marks 2nd – Red Hot Hussler 3rd – Candente 4th - Turenne

HIGHER’N’HIGHER (T. Harrison) overraced in the middle stages.

Approaching the 200m, D. Browne, rider of JAZZBO MARKS, accidentally dropped his near-side rein, placing him at a disadvantage whilst regaining that rein.

Race 8: Woolworths F&M Class 3 H'cap – 1200m
1st – Gotta Be Lucky 2nd – Ain’t Half Hot 3rd – Written Eleison 4th – Just Betty

ERVBEFEL (D. Green), GOTTA BE LUCKY (T. Harrison) and TICKET TO DREAM (R. Wiggins) were slow to begin.

ERVBEFEL overraced in the early stages and near the 800m had to be restrained from the heels of MOROCCAN DANCER (Michael Palmer) and shifted out, inconveniencing TICKET TO DREAM.

TICKET TO DREAM (R. Wiggins) was held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

JUST BETTY (T. Bell) was also held up in the home straight and near the 300m shifted out and brushed MOROCCAN DANCER, which resulted in MOROCCAN DANCER shifting out and tightening the running of TICKET TO DREAM. Following this, JUST BETTY, when racing in close proximity to MOROCCAN DANCER, attempted to savage that runner on several occasions. JUST BETTY then had to alter course near the 250m to the inside of the heelsof SWEET HUSSY (A. Spinks) in order to improve. JUST BETTY (T. Bell) Trainer D. Bell was advised that JUST BETTY would be required to perform satisfactorily in a jump-out prior to racing again.

Near the 200m, TICKET TO DREAM had to be checked when attempting to take a run where there was doubtful room between ERVBEFEL (D. Green), which shifted in slightly, and MOROCCAN DANCER, which shifted out under riding. At a subsequent inquiry, stewards could not be satisfied that TICKET TO DREAM had established a run between ERVBEFEL and MOROCCAN DANCER, however M. Palmer, rider of MOROCCAN DANCER, was issued with a reprimand and advised to make greater effort to stop riding and straighten his mounts in similar circumstances.

Approaching and passing the 100m, GOTTA BE LUCKY (T. Harrison) was held up for clear running on the heels of AIN’T HALF HOT (G. Colless). GOTTA BE LUCKY then shifted to the inside of AIN’T HALF HOT in order to improve.

A post race veterinary examination of GOTTA BE LUCKY revealed the horse had bled from one nostril. Trainer P. Strong was advised that GOTTA BE LUCKY would be required to galloped 1000 metres before stewards prior to its next race start.
