Race 1: Hardy Brothers Jewellers Open H'cap – 1010m

As G .Colless was to be overweight, A. Spinks was substituted as the rider of FAR DOOLEY. G. Colless was fined $200.

Approaching the first turn, BUCKMOORE (R. Murray) had to be steadied when momentarily tightened for room by HUCKLEBERRY DANE (C. Munce), which laid in away from FAR DOOLEY (A. Spinks).

Upon straightening, FAR DOOLEY, which was tiring, was momentarily tightened for room between BUCKMOORE (R. Murray), which shifted out around the heels of HUCKLEBERRY DANE to obtain clear running, and CAPE KIDNAPPERS (J. Byrne), which shifted in. FAR DOOLEY then commenced to hang in when tiring and continued to do so for the remainder of the event.

CAPE KIDNAPPERS raced wide throughout.

BUCKMOORE lost its near fore plate in running.

Race 2: Breakfast Creek Hotel QTIS 2yo H'cap - 1200m

Connections advised that AGITATE would be ridden further back in the field if circumstances permit. AGITATE was ridden midfield.

JOLIE MADELEINE (M. Hellyer) was slow to begin.

MY BELOVED (T. Bell) and ARCHITECT (A. Spinks) were tightened for room between AGITATE (G. Colless) and CHOOSE A SAGA (E. Wilkinson), both of which shifted ground.

RUSTY COLOURS jumped inwards at the start, bumping AQUATOR (P. Hammersley).

TISANI TOMSO (L. Tarrant) and LITTLE BIT DITSY (M. Cahill) began awkwardly.

Near the 700m, AQUATOR (P. Hammersley) commenced to race fiercely and when steadied off the heels of MY BELOVED, shifted out, taking ARCHITECT (A. Spinks) wider on the track.

Passing the 500m, RUSTY COLOURS improved up on to the heels of LITTLE BIT DITSY and had to be restrained.

At the same stage, AGITATE commenced to overrace and shifted out from the heels of FASTA THAN LIGHT (P. Schmidt).

Approaching the 400m, RUSTY COLOURS and JOLIE MADELEINE (M. Hellyer) came into contact on several occasions.

Upon straightening, LITTLE BIT DITSY shifted out around the heels of FASTA THAN LIGHT and in doing so dictated the line of FASTA THAN LIGHT, taking that horse out on to JOLIE MADELEINE, which further resulted in AQUATOR, which was trailing JOLIE MADELEINE, having to be steadied from the heels of that horse.

ARCHITECT hung in under pressure in the straight.

M. Speers reported that RUSTY COLOURS overraced during the event.

M. Speers, rider of the 6th placegetter, RUSTY COLOURS, was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts right out to the finish line.

Race 3: Tattersall’s Arcade 2MW H'cap – 1200m

STARSTREAMED (A. Best) was slow to begin.

Both SEA MARVISTA (E. Wilkinson) and AROUND THE WORLD (M. Hellyer) overraced for a short distance in the early stages.

SEA MARVISTA again had to be steadied when racing fiercely leaving the 800m.

STARSTREAMED was held up for clear running from rounding the home turn until near the 300m. STARSTREAMED then shifted out to obtain clear running and in doing so bumped AROUND THE WORLD (M. Hellyer).

Both AROUND THE WORLD and STYLE (A. Allen) shifted out under pressure over the final 150m, resulting in SEA MARVISTA (E. Wilkinson) being inconvenienced for a short distance inside the 100m.

Stewards sought an explanation from rider P. Schmidt regarding the seemingly poor performance of THE FIFTHHOLE. Apprentice Schmidt stated that the horse travelled well in its customary position in the lead, however when she applied pressure to the gelding in the early part of the straight, the horse became unbalanced and commenced to race with an elevated head carriage. She added from that point onwards the horse commenced to tire and proved extremely disappointing. A post race veterinary examination of THEFIFTHHOLE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Trainer G. Allard was asked to explain the seemingly improved performance of STYLE today as opposed to its last start 7th of 9, beaten 6 lengths. Mr Allard advised stewards it was evident that STYLE did not handle the prevailing track conditions at Eagle Farm on that occasion and believed that whilst the track today is a similar rating, he was of the opinion that the horse was more comfortable racing on the surface today.

Race 4: Carlton Mid F&M Class 6 H'cap – 1350m

GLOVE (A. Coome) began awkwardly and then was bumped by COMAHNI (L. Cassidy), which shifted in.

Near the 900m, COMAHNI, which was racing keenly, was steadied to avoid the heels of ALCANCIA (B. Richardson), which shifted in when not quite clear. B. Richardson, rider of ALCANCIA, was advised to exercise more care.

L. Cassidy, rider of COMAHNI, reported that the mare was disappointing and after consulting with trainer R. Wilson it was the intention of connections to space the mare’s runs in future.

A post race veterinary examination of AMETSIS revealed the horse to be lame in the near foreleg. Connections will be advised that a veterinary clearance would be required for AMETSIS prior to its next race start.

Race 5: PPG Australia Benchmark 85 H'cap – 2100m

As K. Matheson was to be overweight, A. Allen was substituted as the rider of CLANGOR. K. Matheson was fined $200.

Approaching the 200m, FRETON (P. Schmidt) was momentarily held up for clear running between DANAGAZE (S. Payne) and HANDSOME DANE (B. Stewart) when both horses shifted ground slightly.

B. Richardson, rider of I GOTTA FEELING, was admonished and advised that she must refrain from using her whip on horses that are out of contention.

J. Byrne reported that it was not his intention to lead on FLYING HOME, however when he took up a position outside HOW FAIRDINKUM (P. Hammersley), his mount raced fiercely and when it became evident that P. Hammersley did not wish to lead, he progressed forward and assumed the leading position.

B. Stewart, rider of HANDSOME DANE, was $200 for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.

Race 6: Des Lambart Memorial CG&E Class 6 H'cap – 1350m

Near the 900m, MISHANI WARRIOR (A. Allen), which was racing fiercely, improved to the inside of MY QUILTER (L. Cassidy) where there was doubtful room and had to be steadied.

Passing the 800m, GUNNER KNOX (B. Stewart) improved to the inside of IT’S WUNDERBAR (K. Wharton) where there was insufficient room and had to be steadied.

From rounding the home turn until the 200m, BRIBIE (D. Browne) was held up on the heels of the tiring SONS OF GOD (M. Cahill).

Upon entering the straight until the 200m, ALTAI WARRIOR (R. Wiggins) was held up on the heels of KEEP IT MOIST (C. Munce) and unable to improve.

GUNNER KNOX was held up inside the final 50m when awkwardly placed at the heels of ALL MY ANGELS (P. Schmidt), which was taken in by MISHANI WARRIOR.

When asked to explain the disappointing performance of SONS OF GOD, M. Cahill stated that the horse travelled strongly in the lead, however soon after straightening when he applied pressure, SONS OF GOD commenced to tire and proved very disappointing. He informed stewards that it was his understanding the horse would be sent for a spell in light of today’s performance. A post race veterinary examination of SONS OF GOD revealed the gelding to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance, including the results of an ECG for SONS OF GOD must be produced to stewards, and that the gelding would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.

T. Bell reported at scale that INSIDE JOB raced flat and proved disappointing in its effort in the home straight.

Race 7: Tattersall’s Mile – 1600m

Near the 1300m, BOOGIE SHOES (J. Byrne) shifted in, taking LUCKY HUSSLER (B. Stewart) in on to MYSTICAL GREY (G. Goold), which had to be steadied. J. Byrne, rider of BOOGIE SHOES, was advised to exercise more care in future.

B. Stewart, rider of LUCKY HUSSLER, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that leaving the 400m, he rode in a careless manner by shifting to the inside of the heels of LISTEN SON (R. Wiggins) where there was insufficient room, resulting in LUCKY HUSSLER being awkwardly placed at the heels of LISTEN SON and shifting inwards, resulting in FIREBOLT being tightened for room between LUCKY HUSSLER and the running rail and striking the heels of LUCKY HUSSLER and blundering. B. Stewart was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 13 July, and to expire at midnight, 23 July.

Stewards sought an explanation from B. Stewart with regard to the tactics adopted on LUCKY HUSSLER approaching the home turn, in particular his reasons for persisting for a run to the inside of LISTEN SON, which ultimately resulted in him being disappointed for clear running in the early part of the straight and having to be checked from the heels of JETSET LAD near the 250m. B. Stewart explained that leaving the 600m when he was occupying a trailing position behind LISTEN SON, he decided to persist for a run to the inside of that horse when it shifted out marginally leaving the 500m. B. Stewart added that he is aware that LISTEN SON has a habit of hanging out on the home turn and this was a major consideration in employing the tactics he did. B. Stewart added that there did not appear to be an option wider on the track rounding the home turn as he had both BOOGIE SHOES (J. Byrne) and SOLEBID (C. Munce) tight to his outside. After considering the explanation provided and viewing the available footage stewards believed jockey Bradley Stewart’s decision to remain to the inside as reasonable and took no further action.

B. Stewart, rider of LUCKY HUSSLER, was fined $200 for returning to scale overweight.

Race 8: Southbank Insurance Brokers QTIS 3yo H'cap – 1200m

REGULAR (J. Johnson), FUSIL DE EVE (M. Hellyer), THE CONSPIRATOR (D. Browne) and ITCHINTOWIN (B. Richardson) raced wide throughout.

DISCREET (K. Matheson) was unable to secure clear running in the home straight when placed awkwardly at the heels of GENERAL EXHIBIT (G. Goold) and to the inside of THE CONSPIRATOR (D. Browne).

A post race veterinary examination of LA FRISSON, which finished a distant last, BELLE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

M. Cahill reported following the event that he was concerned with the action of TUKIYO over the concluding stages. A post race veterinary examination of TUKIYO failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer J. Dann advised that TUKIYO would now be sent for a spell.

Stewards intend to question G. Colless regarding his riding of SHAMROCK SLIPPER from the 400m.
