Race 1: Jim Beam 1MW H'cap – 1200m

Trainer B. Currie was fined $300 for failing to produce the Document of Description for SEZWHO.

Near the 300m, TICKET TO DREAM (G. Colless) shifted out around the heels of SEZWHO (C. Munce) and in doing so bumped with CRAZY MAMMA (J. Byrne).

Approaching the 100m, STARSTREAMED (T. Jeffries) was hit over the head by the whip of R. McMahon (TORNADOES) on 2 occasions. On the second occasion, R. McMahon’s whip became entangled in the rein of STARSTREAMED momentarily.

T. Bell reported to stewards he was disappointed with the performance of ALDINI today, adding that the only excuse he could offer for the horse was that the pattern of the race did not suite ALDINI. A post race veterinary examination of ALDINI failed to reveal any significant abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.

Race 2: Canadian Club QTIS 2yo H'cap – 1200m

G. Colless reported that AGITATE raced fiercely in the middle stages. Connections advised that it was their intention to spell AGITATE.

Approaching the 600m, ABU BEN ADAM(J. Byrne), which was laying out, appeared to falter and became unbalanced for a short distance.

Near the 300m, VOODOO BLUE MAGIC (J. Johnson), which was held up for clear running, shifted out and made contact with LITTLE BIT DITSY (M. Cahill), resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. VOODOO BLUE MAGIC was then held up for clear running until the 200m.

When placed under pressure leaving the 300m, LITTLE BIT DITSY laid in and became unbalanced for a short distance.

PANDORA CHARM (L. Cassidy) and PRUSSIAN HEART (C. Munce) raced wide throughout.

D. Browne reported that TERONADO felt very fresh and was reluctant to proceed to the barriers prior to the start. D. Browne added that the horse did not stretch out in the early stages of the event, which resulted in him settling some distance from the second last horse.

Race 3: Goulburn Valley Class 6 H'cap – 1350m

BEEBY GEM (L. Cassidy) jumped outwards at the start, resulting in KEEP IT MOIST (R. McMahon) having to relinquish its position when tightened for room between BEEBY GEM and COSMONAUT (G. Colless).

Near the 800m, OUR HUSSEY (K. Wharton) shifted in, tightening the running of ALL MY ANGELS (M. Cahill) and NOISY OCEAN (J. Johnson). K. Wharton, rider of OUR HUSSEY, was severely reprimanded and advised he must provide his fellow riders more racing room than he did on this occasion.

BILLY AUCASH (R. Wiggins) raced ungenerously in the early stages.

FACE OFF (P. Hammersley) raced fiercely at the heels of CARMINE KING (A. Allen) through the middle stages.

For some distance shortly after entering the straight, FACE OFF, when shifting out to obtain clear running, came into contact with SLYSERA (G. Goold).

Near the 200m, SOLEBID (C. Munce) was tightened for room and had to be steadied between BILLY AUCASH, which was hanging in under pressure, and SLYSERA (G. Goold), which shifted out after becoming unbalanced following contact from FACE OFF.

SOLEBID and BILLY AUCASH raced wide throughout.

Stewards sought an explanation from jockey A. Allen regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of CARMINE KING. A. Allen stated that the horse travelled well in running, however once placed under pressure and challenged by MR ORIENT, CARMINE KING commenced to give ground and proved disappointing in the run to the finish . A post race veterinary examination of CARMINE KING failed to reveal any significant abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.

L. Cassidy, rider of BEEBY GEM, which led the field by a considerable margin, was asked to explain the tactics adopted on the mare today. He informed stewards he was instructed by trainer Mrs H. Page to lead by several lengths as its best performances have been in races when it has been ridden in this fashion. Jockey Cassidy added that Mrs Page advised him that the horse races waywardly when forced to race amongst other runners and this was evident to him when the horse hung out for some distance shortly after the start and in the early part of the straight when claimed by other runners. Mrs Page confirmed the instructions and advised stewards that whilst her instructions are unorthodox, this is the way the horse races best and it was her view that BEEBY GEM only compounded over the concluding stages by virtue of the fact that it was having its first run after nearly 2 months.

BILLY AUCASH shifted its off fore plate during running.

Race 4: Powerade Open H'cap – 1615m

RAEBURN (P. Hammersley) was momentarily held up for clear running near the 100m.

FERMENT (M. Cahill) laid in under pressure in the home straight.

Stewards sought an explanation from T. Bell with regard to the disappointing performance of GAROZZO today. T. Bell explained that the horse enjoyed an easy run in the lead and did accelerate for a short distance when placed under pressure rounding the home turn, however when challenged by WHAT HAPPENEDHENRY (G. Colless), GAROZZO was immediately under heavy pressure and commenced to tire shortly thereafter.

E. Wilkinson, rider of PUTYOURFAITHINME, reported that the horse got on one rein passing the 600m and shifted wider on the track despite his efforts.

Race 5: Mount Franklin Benchmark 85 H'cap - 1010m

Trainer T. Gollan advised that PURE PURRFECTION would be ridden just off the speed today.

Trainer S. Kendrick was reprimanded for presenting LIGHTFEET LADY to the enclosure with incorrect gear.

BROOKTON TIARA (P. Hammersley) was slow to begin.

After leaving the 600m, REILLY BLUE (A. Holt), which was pulling hard, made contact with the off side hind leg of JANTZEN (L. Cassidy), which resulted in JANTZEN becoming unbalanced.

Near the 200m, QFIGHTER (R. Wiggins) had to check to avoid the heels of the tiring SPOT ON TARGET (A. Allen).

BROOKTON TIARA (P. Hammersley) was held up for clear running from the 300m until the 200m.

SPOT ON TARGET (A. Allen) raced 3 wide without cover.

LENNIE’S CHOICE lost its near fore plate in running.

Following this race the track rating was upgraded to Dead 4 retrospective to this race.

Race 6: Coca-Cola Class 6 H'cap – 2100m

MR TRACEY (G. Goold) was examined by the veterinary surgeon at the request of its rider at the barriers and was passed suitable to race.

When the pace slackened near the 1500m, THIRTY FOR BLOOD (R. Wiggins), CARN (A. Taylor) and ALL COIN (R. Murray) commenced to race fiercely and had to be restrained. When restrained, CARN shifted out to a 3-wide position and was then allowed to stride forward to the position outside the leader.

Stewards questioned trainer D. Johnson regarding the seemingly improved performance of CARN. Mr Johnson stated that at the horse’s second-up run at Eagle Farm it was forced to work forward midrace to be outside the leader and compounded over the concluding stages. Mr Johnson added that the horse’s run at Dalby was very good and he was particularly pleased with the performance as the horse was forced to race in an inferior section of the track when 4th. The explanation was noted.

Race 7: Coke Zero NMW Wins H'cap – 1615m

Leaving the 1500m, GUNNER KNOX (R. McMahon) had to be steadied when tightened for room by SPECIAL MISS (T. Bell), which was taken in by CONVENT HILL (R. Murray). R. Murray, rider of CONVENT HILL, was reprimanded.

During the middle stages, CONVENT HILL raced ungenerously and had a tendency to hang out.

For some distance passing the 600m, SUPERCHEAP (M. Hellyer) raced keenly at the heels of NOBODY’S JOHNNY (E. Wilkinson) and had to be restrained.

Passing the 400m, ROCKSAN (C. Munce) shifted out to improve and took SPECIAL MISS (T. Bell) wider on the track.

CONVENT HILL shifted in under pressure in the straight and approaching the finish line made contact wtih CASSE SQARETTE (M. Cahill).

Stewards sought an explanation from trainer J. Sylvester regarding the seemingly improved performance of CONVENT HILL. Mr Sylvester stated that the horse’s run at Scone on 2 July was very good when third to YOUTHFUL KING and its performance last start at Scone was also good in the circumstances as the pattern of racing at that meeting did not suit horses that raced back in the field. The explanation was noted.
Following the event, M. Cahill, rider of the 2nd placegetter, CASSE SQARETTE viewed the stewards patrol footage to determine whether he had grounds to lodge a protest against the winner CONVENT HILL. Subsequently, M. Cahill did not proceed and correct weight was semaphored on the Judge’s placings.

Race 8: Makers Mark QTIS 3yo H'cap – 1200m

SMAKATUS, which was presented to the course with swelling in its off foreleg, was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to race.

As R. McMahon was to be overweight, A. Taylor was substituted as the rider of SPECIAL LIE. R. McMahon was fined the sum of $200.

AVALADYLUCK (A. Coome) and PICKABEE (R. Wiggins) were slow to begin.

Rounding the turn at the 800m, DISCREET (K. Matheson) shifted in and away from SMAKATUS (J. Byrne), tightening the running of INDUBIOUS (M. Cahill). As a result, INDUBIOUS made contact with the running rail and became unbalanced. A short distance later, DISCREET improved up on to the heels of FUSIL DE EVE (M. Hellyer) and when being restrained shifted in, again tightening the running of INDUBIOUS. Whilst stewards acknowledged that DISCREET did lay in, K. Matheson, rider of DISCREET, was nonetheless reprimanded and advised to provide his fellow riders more racing room in future.

Approaching the finish line, SUBSTATION (A. Butler) shifted in, tightening the running of TOM’S LUCK (E. Wilkinson). As a result of having to correct his mount, A. Butler was unable to ride his mount out to the finish.
