Race 1: MATER DEI SCHOOL BM90 H’CAP - 2050m
OAKFIELD CANDY (T. Treichel) blundered on jumping away.
After passing the 1000m OAKFIELD CANDY shifted out to improve and as a result raced three wide from that point onwards.
SEEN (A. Hearn) laid out under pressure in the home straight and after leaving the 200m shifted out and inconvenienced LEGSMAN (C. Schmidt).
Race 2: MOUNT FRANKLIN SPARKLING C,G&E MAIDEN PLATE - 1350m
DR STRANGELOVE (A. Coome) was slow to begin.
SPIRITUAL MANNER (A. Pattillo), which hung out for the majority of the event, raced wide throughout.
MOCKBA (L. Rolls) raced wide throughout.
When being restrained approaching the 900m MOON PALACE (C. Schmidt) became unbalanced for a short distance before shifting out and making contact with GOOD TWO DREAM (B. Appo). Following this, MOON PALACE overraced until leaving the 700m.
Approaching the 300m MOON PALACE shifted out to secure clear running and in doing so inconvenienced GOOD TWO DREAM.
GADAWON (S. Payne) bumped the running rail of its own accord on two occasions over the final 100m.
Race 3: GLENLOGAN PARK STUD F&M MAIDEN PLATE - 1350m
SEONIA (A. Butler) and DARK MATTER (M. McKenzie) were slow to begin.
BENICIO’S JEWEL (P. Schmidt) was slow into stride.
DARK MATTER raced ungenerously when being restrained during the early stages and near the 900m shifted in and made contact with BENECIO’S JEWEL.
WICKED DAUGHTER (A. Pattillo) overraced in the early stages.
Leaving the 600m SEONIA shifted out to improve around the heels of MERRY HELL (L. Rolls) which commenced to weaken.
Near the 100m JOLIE MADELEINE (B. Appo) and SEONIA bumped.
Race 4: ORMISTON COLLEGE C,G&E CLASS 2 H’CAP - 1110m
GREEDY (A. Coome) began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with the nearside partition of its barrier gate. Following the running of this race jockey Coome was stood down by the Club doctor due to an injury to his left ankle.
MENACING (V. Colgan) began awkwardly.
COURT’S SUN (L. Rolls) was slow to begin.
When the pace slackened after passing the 900m MENACING commenced to overrace and hung out for a short distance, forcing OH MY ROCKET (K. Wharton) wider on the track.
SENDAK (S. Fawke) and COACH STONE (J. Morris) raced wide throughout.
EXCEEDINGLY (A. Pattillo) was held up rounding the home turn and was then forced to alter course near the 100m to obtain clear running to the inside of CLASSIC BEND (C. Schmidt), which shifted out under pressure.
When afforded the opportunity to comment on the performance of COURT’S SUN, L. Rolls stated that being first up the horse settled at the rear of the field, as per its usual racing pattern, and found the line strongly. He added that in his view the horse would be better suited when stepped up over further distance.
Race 5: ASCEND SALES QTIS 3YO H’CAP - 1030m
AMAZING FATE was a late scratching at 9.00 am on veterinary advice.
CHAMPAGNE ELOPING (A. Hearn) jumped away very awkwardly and lost ground, inconveniencing both HARDLEY (A. Allen) and QUEEN OF THE LOCHS (T. Harrison), which had to be steadied from the heels of ROSEY JOAN (A. Spinks), resulting in both HARDLEY and QUEEN OF THE LOCHS losing ground.
ROSEY JOAN (A. Spinks) raced wide throughout.
DRAGON STREET (S. Fawke) wanted to lay out rounding the home turn.
Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to GOOD 3.
Race 6: BUNDABERG DISTILLING CO F&M CLASS 2 H’CAP - 1110m
Trainer D. Murphy was fined $100 for the late declaration of V. Colgan as the rider of CAMPIONESSA by the prescribed time.
A delay was caused to the start of this race when KYEBLEAH (M. Crawford), after being fractious in the barriers, was removed, inspected by the veterinary surgeon and passed to take its place in the field.
Near the 800m SPONTANEITY (A. Allen) and KYEBLEAH were both forced to race in restricted room to the inside of THREESCOREANDTEN (S. Payne), which shifted in.
SIZZLING SONG (B. Appo) raced wide throughout.
THREESCOREANDTEN, which raced wide throughout, was forced wider near the 600m when DEVIL HEART (A. Butler) shifted out to improve.
Leaving the 300m BEACH BABE (J. Morris), after improving into a tight run to the inside of CAMPIONESSA (V. Colgan), was hampered when that horse shifted back in slightly. Following this incident CAMPIONESSA shifted out and was steadied from the heels of SPONTANEITY, which shifted in slightly. J. Morris was cautioned and advised to ensure that there is sufficient racing room when attempting narrow runs in future.
Race 7: GALLOPERS $1 MEMBERSHIP CLASS 1 H’CAP - 1350m
Trainer T. Crane was fined $100 for the late declaration of J. Morris as the rider of NOVIKOV by the prescribed time.
As A. Coome had been stood down due to injury, K. Wharton was substituted as the rider of DENONATE.
The start of this race was delayed due to NOVIKOV (J. Morris) proving difficult to load. Trainer T. Crane was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding.
NOVIKOV and RED CENT (M. Speers) were slow to begin.
DENONATE (K. Wharton) and IN A HUFF (A. Spinks) were slow into stride.
Near the 1300m WASABI PUNCH (A. Allen) was tightened for room and had to be steadied when racing between NOVIKOV and MILITARY BRIDE (A. Pattillo), which shifted out.
Near the 1100m DENONATE had to be steadied to avoid the heels of COWORTH PARK (A. Hearn), which shifted in.
DESPERATE LADIES (V. Colgan), NOVIKOV and WASABI PUNCH raced wide throughout.
A post-race veterinary examination of IN A HUFF, which raced uncompetitively, revealed the horse to have a slower than normal post-race recovery rate. Trainer T. Green was advised that IN A HUFF must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial prior to being permitted to race again.
Race 8: XXXX GOLD BM85 H’CAP - 1350m
RACING HEART (S. Payne), AGENT BLUE (C. Schmidt) and NIGHT CHILLS (A. Allen) raced wide throughout.
K. Wharton, the rider of PUTYOURFAITHINME, reported at scale that he felt that the horse went amiss and for this reason he did not pressure the mare over the final stages. A post-race veterinary examination of PUTYOURFAITHINME revealed no obvious abnormalities. Trainer P. Jenkins will be interviewed at a later date regarding the performance of PUTYOURFAITHINME.
