Race 1: Neca Group Training Maiden Plate – 2240m
Connections advised that FULL HAMMER would be ridden in a more forward position if circumstances permit. Despite the efforts of its rider, FULL HAMMER was unable to muster speed and settled at the rear of the field.
FULL HAMMER (J. Morris) jumped away awkwardly.
FLASH SPAWN (T. Bell) jumped away awkwardly and then was hampered soon after the start by QABLA (M. Cahill), which was taken in by BERNASEKI (B. El-Issa).
Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, CHARBOXA (A. Spinks) shifted in and made heavy contact with SHEZADEMON (L. Tarrant), which was taken in towards the running rail. A. Spinks, rider of CHARBOXA, was advised to take greater care when shifting ground in future.
From the 500m until approaching the 250m, FLASH SPAWN (T. Bell) was unable to secure clear running, and near the 200m shifted out when not fully clear of NEW ECLIPSE (M. Hellyer), resulting in that runner being inconvenienced. T. Bell, rider of FLASH SPAWN, was reprimanded and advised to afford his fellow riders greater clearance in future.
Race 2: NHP Fillies and Mares Class 3 H'cap – 1200m
FINNIGAN’S FOLLY (L. Cassidy) was slow to begin.
IT’S GONNA BE GOOD (C. Munce) shifted out at the start, bumping ROSE IN BLOOM (T. Wolfgram).
QUEEN CAESAR (T. Bell) overraced in the early and middle stages.
Race 3: Haymans Maiden H'cap – 1350m
M. Vance, rider of CIRCUIT BREAKER, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that approaching and passing the 1200m she permitted her mount to shift in when not clear of FUSCUS (J. Byrne), which was taken inwards across the rightful running of SALUTE OUR DIGGERS (A. Butler), which had to be checked when tightened onto the running rail. M. Vance was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 14 June and to expire at midnight, 26 June.
TARTING ME UP (T. Harrison) overraced in the early stages.
Passing the 600m, FUSCUS (J. Byrne) shifted out and bumped GRACEFUL ROSE (V. Colgan), taking that runner wider on the track.
Rounding the home turn, CIRCUIT BREAKER was disappointed for a run between LIFE’S LIKE THAT (T. Treichel) and CAPTAIN WINGS (B. Stewart), which shifted out slightly.
FUSCUS was unable to secure clear running approaching and rounding the home turn.
In the early part of the home straight, STRIKING WARRIOR (L. Tarrant) was inclined to lay in under pressure.
Near the 250m, FUSCUS had to be steadied when tightened for room between LIFE’S LIKE THAT (T. Treichel), which shifted in slightly, and CIRCUIT BREAKER (M. Vance), which shifted out when not fully clear after being held up for a short distance. M. Vance, rider of CIRCUIT BREAKER, was reprimanded.
Race 4: CNW CG&E Class 1 H'cap – 1200m
BEAU JEZ (L. Tarrant) had difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight and approaching the 100m had to alter course to the outside of ELIMINATOR (T. Bell) in order to improve.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of ELIMINATOR, T. Bell stated that after receiving a bump from OCTANE FLYER (M. Cahill) shortly after straightening, the gelding failed to respond to his riding and, in his opinion, proved disappointing. He was of the view that the horse may not have performed well after being second up from a spell today. Trainer G. Heinrich noted that ELIMINATOR had some mucas in the nearside nostril following the race and as such would have blood tests performed, the results of which would be reported to stewards.
A post race veterinary examination of ELIMINATOR failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 5: Clipsal Schneider Class 3 Plate - 1350m
FIRST CLASS (V. Colgan) overraced in the early stages.
When the pace steadied passing the 800m, HEARTS’N’DIAMONDS (L. Cassidy) had to be checked from the heels of GREY ASSASSIN (C. Munce).
At the same stage, DYNA ROSE (B. El-Issa) was obliged to shift out to avoid the heels of FIRST CLASS (V. Colgan).
HEARTS’N’DIAMONDS (L. Cassidy) was held up for clear running approaching and rounding the home turn.
JEHANNEDARC (T. Harrison) hung in under pressure in the home straight.
GIDS (J. Byrne) raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
T. Harrison, rider of JEHANNEDARC, was reprimanded for using her whip in the straight forward of the horse’s shoulder.
Race 6: Energy Super Class 5 H'cap – 1660m
FOREST WAY (C. Munce) was tightened for room soon after the start, between EASY LAGER (T. Harrison) and ELITE ECHELON (J. Byrne), which shifted in.
BEAU BOY (S. Fawke) was taken in slightly after travelling a short distance by LENTINI MIST (M. Cahill) and made contact with the hind quarters of ST ANDREWS (T. Bell).
ELITE ECHELON overraced in the early stages.
From the 600m, BIG WHEELS (L. Tarrant) was unable to improve when awkwardly placed at the heels of BEAU BOY until soon after straightening. BIG WHEELS again had difficulty securing clear running in the home straight until approaching the 200m.
Rounding the home turn, BEAU BOY and HORA SEXTA (T. Treichel) had difficulty obtaining clear running.
Near the 350m, ST ANDREWS (T. Bell) shifted out and made contact with LENTINI MIST (M. Cahill).
ROFRANOZ (E. Wilkinson) raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
J. Byrne was asked to explain the disappointing performance of ELITE ECHELON. Jockey Byrne stated that the horse travelled well throughout the event and he was confident when rounding the home turn, however near the 400m he received contact from BEAU BOY, which shifted out in an attempt to obtain clear running. He stated that ELITE ECHELON then laid in slightly and made contact with EASY LAGER and failed to respond to his riding from that point and proved disappointing in the run to the line. Trainer R. McCall was unable to explain the performance other than to say the gelding has previously had one start at Doomben and was disappointing on that occasion. He indicated he would monitor the horse’s progress in the following days and would report any abnormalities to stewards. A post race veterinary examination of ELITE ECHELON failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
A post race veterinary examination of PLATINUM STATE revealed the horse had pulled up in a distressed state.
Race 7: L & H and Integracom QTIS 3yo Class 3 Plate – 1110m
PULSAR (T. Harrison) slipped at the start and began awkwardly.
GOING GOING GONE (M. Cahill) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
Passing the 1000m, BUSH CAVIAR (S. Fawke), when being restrained, shifted in and clipped the heels of FLAMBOYER (G. Goold) and blundered. Following this, BUSH CAVIAR overraced for some distance.
Approaching the 900m, RIVERBOLDA (L. Cassidy) had to be steadied when tightened for room between BUSH CAVIAR and CHILLS (B. El-Issa), which shifted in when not quite clear. B. El-issa, rider of CHILLS, was advised to provide greater clearance when shifting ground in future.
CHILLS (B. El-Issa) raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
RIVERBOLDA (L. Cassidy) also raced wide for the majority of the race.
T. Bell reported that the saddle on CLEVER ONE slipped shortly after leaving the barriers, placing him at a disadvantage for the remainder of the race.
M. Cahill was unable to offer any tangible reason for GOING GOING GONE performing disappointingly. A post race veterinary examination of GOING GOING GONE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 8: Stowe And Eye Lighting Benchmark 85 H'cap 1200m
BARON DOURO (P. Holmes) overraced in the early and middle stages.
CONGO (T. Wolfgram) and WRITTEN ABOVE ALL (T. Bell) also overraced in the early stages.
T. Bell was questioned regarding the riding tactics on WRITTEN ABOVE ALL, particularly from the 600m until soon after straightening. T. Bell explained as the tempo of the race was slow in the middle stages he attempted to save ground approaching the home turn to the inside of BARON DOURO (P. Holmes), however when BARON DOURO shifted back towards the rail approaching the 400m he was obliged to shift to the outside in order to improve. He added that WRITTEN ABOVE ALL worked to the line well and felt it would be better suited in races with a more genuine tempo throughout. The explanation was noted.
