Race 1: Hardy Brothers Jewellers Open H'cap – 1010m
INTERJECT (J. Byrne) was slow to begin.
MISS MEGA HERZ (A. Allen) blundered at the start.
MR FAVULOUS (L. Tarrant) raced wide without cover for the majority of the race.
A. Allen, ridder of the 6th placegetter, MISS MEGA HERZ, was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts right to the finish line.
A post race veterinary examination of INTERJECT revealed it had bled from both nostrils. Trainer J. McLachlan was advised that INTERJECT will be barred from racing for a period of 3 months.
Race 2: Wayne Wilson Memorial Benchmark 85 H'cap – 2100m
Apprentice J. Johnson (DIENEKES) was reprimanded for changing her boots after weighing out.
SOLEBID (R. Jamieson) jumped very awkwardly and lost significant ground.
MARKOUT (J. Byrne) raced wide in the early stages, and then was allowed to stride forward to take up a position in the lead near the 1500m.
SOLEBID was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight.
OBJECT OF VIRTUE (R. Spokes) raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
Race 3: Tattersall’s Arcade Two Metro Wins H'cap – 1200m
NICKIERA (M. Cahill) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, bumping TURIFF (T. Bell), which was taken out on to TEA TATTLE (D. Browne).
BRADBURY CHOCOLATE (T. Wolfgram) jumped away awkwardly and shifted in, bumping AROUND THE WORLD (M. Hellyer).
Passing the 800m, GOLDEN TRINKETS (G. Goold) commenced to overrace and had to be steadied from the heels of JOPA (A. Allen).
Near the 800m, JEFFERSON PARK (T. Harrison), when overracing, shifted out from the heels of MAURY (R. McMahon) and raced 3 wide for the remainder of the event.
Approaching the winning post, JOPA had to be steadied away from the heels of ALL TAKEN (B. Grylls).
A post race veterinary examination of NICKIERA revealed the horse had bled from both nostrils. Connections were advised that NICKIERA would be barred from racing for a period of 3 months.
When asked to explain the performance of TIGER DIMEJAN, apprentice L. Tarrant stated that the mare did not appreciate racing inside horses when placed under pressure rounding the home turn. He added that when the horse has raced with success in the past it has made its finishing run down the outside. The explanation was noted.
Race 4: Breakfast Creek Hotel QTIS 2yo H'cap – 1200m
MISS COVER GIRL (C. Whiteley), JETASAN (L. Rolls) and BRAVE DAZZLER (N. Tomizawa) were slow to begin.
RIO BRAVO (V. Colgan) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with TOP TONE (L. Cassidy).
Passing the 900m, ROCKLORD (J. Byrne) had to be steadied when tightened for room between TOP TONE, which when overracing shifted out slightly, and OCEAN LINE (R. Spokes), which shifted in.
Near the 500m, TOP TONE (L. Cassidy) shifted in and away from ROCKLORD, tightening the running of BRAVE DAZZLER, which became awkward.
In the early part of the home straight, DENARIUS (T. Bell) hung in when placed under pressure.
OCEAN LINER and DENARIUS raced wide without cover throughout.
Race 5: Carlton Mid F&M Class 6 H'cap – 1350m
CRAIGLEA SHERRY (B. Grylls) was slow to begin.
SLOTS (T. Bell) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, bumping SATURN ROCK (M. Cahill).
After leaving the 200m, GREY COUNTESS (B. Stewart) shifted in slightly, taking SLOTS in on to the tiring NICKY NOCKY (J. Taylor), resulting in MAY NELLY (L. Tarrant), which was racing to the inside, being tightened for room.
M. Cahill reported at scale that, in his opinion, SATURN ROCK did no appreciate the firm track today.
A post race veterinary examination of NICKY NOCKY revealed the horse to be making a respiratory noise. Trainer A. Willick undertook to report to stewards the results of veterinary tests on NICKY NOCKY she intends carrying out in the coming days.
Race 6: Des Lambart Memorial CG&E Class 6 H'cap – 1350m
As apprentice K. Matheson was unable to claim his full allowance, apprentice B. Grylls was substituted as the rider of TAIL AND ALL. K. Matheson was fined $300.
FRENCH COMMAND (G. Goold) slow to begin.
NOOGOORA BURR (R. Jamieson) jumped away awkwardly.
Approaching the 1000m, EPIC (T. Wolfgram) had to be steadied and shifted in and bumped the hind quarters of SMAKATUS (G. Colless) when awkwardly placed at the heels of BELIEVE’N’RECEIVE (J. Byrne).
In the early part of the straight, TAIL AND ALL (B. Grylls) was held up and unable to improve when awkwardly placed at the heels of ROBBERS ROOST (R. McMahon), which commenced to weaken. TAIL AND ALL then was unable to secure clear running until passing the 200m.
EPIC raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
Race 7: Tattersall’s Mile H'cap – 1600m
Trainer advised that JETSET LAD, which has been getting back in its races, will be ridden more forward from the good barrier draw. After beginning well, the horse led during the event.
LAUREN TATE (R. Wiggins) was tightened for room soon after the start between TRANSPORTER (J. Byrne) and VEEWAP (T. Bell), which shifted in.
BELLTONE (M. Cahill) raced 3 wide in the early stages and to a point near the 800m.
Near the 700m, GREY ASSIGNMENT (V. Colgan) improved onto the heels of VEEWAP and had to be restrained.
Approaching the 150m, JETSET LAD (A. Allen) shifted out abruptly, taking BEWHATYOUWANNABE (G. Colless) and KINGDOMS (L. Cassidy) wider.
L. Cassidy, rider of KINGDOMS, dropped his whip near the 100m.
TRANSPORTER and BLACK CASH (G. Goold) raced 3 wide throughout.
JETSET LAD lost its near fore plate in running.
Race 8: A. M. Giles & Co Chartered Accountants QTIS 3yo H'cap – 1200m
STELLARCRAFT was declared a late scratching at 8.39 am. Trainer D. Murphy was fined $200 for failing to advise this scratching by the prescribed time.
GOOD JOB BRO (D. Browne), MAGIC MERLE (R. Spokes) and BUSH CAVIAR (M. Cahill) were all severely hampered at the start when tightened for room between NEPTUNE PALACE (T. Harrison) and TRICKY ROCKET (L. Rolls), which jumped awkwardly and shifted out. In this incident, ARCHITECT (T. Bell) was also inconvenienced.
After leaving the 1000m, CRAIGLEA EVITA (A. Spinks) had to be steadied when tightened for room by TRICKY ROCKET (L.Rolls), which shifted in. L. Rolls, rider of TRICKY ROCKET, was reprimanded and advised to be fully clear when shifting ground. A. Spinks reported after this incident that CRAIGLEA EVITA, hung out making the first turn across the heels of GOOD JOB BRO (D. Browne). MAGIC MERLE (R. Spokes), which was following CRAIGLEA EVITA, had to be steadied as a consequence.
ARCHITECT laid in under pressure in the straight.
