RACE 2: BRIGHT SHADOW H’CAP - 1500M.
B. Stewart, rider of EL PASEO, was found guilty of a charge under Australian Rule of Racing 118C(b), in that he weighed out for this event when wearing a vest which had been modified by the removal of a layer of protective foam. B. Stewart was fined the sum of $1000.
Prior to the horses being loaded, ADVANCE TILL MORN was inspected by the club’s veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.

McLeod stated whilst he was extremely confident of the horse’s chances and that VENUS MAY had worked well leading up to today’s race, he was of the opinion that the mare may have had difficulty running out the 2242m. journey at this stage of its preparation on the rain affected track.

B. Stewart and A. Bailey’s stable representative Ms S. Bernstein were questioned regarding the disappointing performance of DASHING COURIER. Ms Bernstein advised that jockey B. Stewart had been instructed to settle DASHING COURIER just off the pace from its wide alley. B. Stewart advised that after being slow into stride, DASHING COURIER commenced to overrace and he elected to allow the gelding to stride forward in the early stages and occupy a position outside the leader.
