WEATHER - FINE TRACK - HEAVY/SLOW AFTER RACE 3 RAIL - 11M.ALL TRACK
RACE 1: OUR PLANET H'CAP - 1600M.
PIGGERY HILL jumped awkwardly and lost ground.
Making the home turn, LAMBADA QUEEN shifted out and made contact with STYLE QUEEN on 2 occasions.
Near the 400m., HOT KEY became unbalanced after making contact with the hind quarters of OUTRANK.
RACE 2: LIBRICI H'CAP - 1500M.
Trainer B. Laming was fined $100 for failing to notify a rider for MIDAS by the required time.
No racing incidents.
RACE 3: ROYAL MAGIC H'CAP - 1200M.
FEE FI FO jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
N. Day, rider of PRECIFIC, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that he permitted his mount to shift in after leaving the 1100m. when insufficiently clear of ADVANC KNOWLEDGE, resulting in that gelding being taken in, causing TABWA to be checked. N. Day was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 31 July, and to expire at midnight, 11 August 1999. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account N. Day's good race riding record, and that when being checked, TABWA may have overreacted to pressure applied by runners to its outside.
After leaving the 1000m., when briefly tightened by BROAD GRIN, TABWA shifted in and made contact with the fence and had to be checked.
FEE FI FO lost its near fore plate in running.
The track rating was upgraded to slow following this event.
RACE 4: TRISTINA H'CAP - 1800M.
COOL LOU and LOVE TO DANCE were slow to begin.
LISTON was held up for clear running until appraoching the 200m..
Trainer S.B. Laming was questioned regarding the improved performance of BILLY BE COOL. The only explanation he could offer was that the gelding had won 2 of its previous 3 starts by being able to lead and dictate the pace, as was the case today. Trainer Laming added that at its previous start at the Gold Coast his instructions were to lead, however the gelding was forced to race wide in the early stages.
RACE 5: HANDY PROVERB H'CAP - 1500M.
SURPRISE ATTACK blundered on jumping away.
WE SHALL DANCE was slow to begin.
Near the 1000m., HEAVENLY CREEK shifted out and made contact with BIG HEARTED.
Jockey G. Colless was questioned regarding the disappointing performance of MIGHTY PLAY. He explained that from the 900m. the gelding was under pressure and failed to respond to his riding. A veterinary examination of MIGHTY PLAY revealed the gelding to be suffering from heart arrhythmia. Trainer A. Bailey was advised that he would be required to provide a full veterinary clearance, including the results of an ECG, for MIGHTY PLAY prior to its next race start.
RACE 6: KINGSTON TOWN H'CAP - 1200M.
VIDA CELESTE jumped away awkwardly.
IKABAB was slow to begin.
After leaving the 600m. crossing, LORD COVENTRY became unbalanced and shifted out and brushed VIDA CELESTE, forcing that runner wider on the track.
A veterinary examination of VIDA CELESTE failed to reveal any abnormality. A swab sample was taken from that filly.
RACE 7: LEFROY H'CAP - 1000M.
BOOROONGA and VICTORY SUPREME were slow to begin.
Near the 700m., IRONEX was briefly tightened for room by STARGARD, which shifted in.
M. Privato, rider of SOME LADY, accidentally dropped his whip near the 200m..
Apprentice J. Baker was fined $100 for weighing in in excess of half a kilogram overweight on VICTORY SUPREME.
ALL WINNERS, VOWORANA, CORKER, LOVE TO DANCE, MIGHTY PLAY AND VIDE CELESTE WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
