M. Pelling reported that as a result of JUKEBOX QUEEN pulling hard in the early stages, his saddle
shifted forward in the vicinty of the 1000m., placing him at a disadvantage.

RACE 2: WATNEY H'CAP - 1400M.

Near the 1200m., KADAZZLE and LAVROS KNIGHT were tightened when racing inside of CONSTANTINE, which was taken in by SEANSKI. B. Stewart, rider of SEANSKI, was instructed to allow sufficient room and ensure he was sufficiently clear when crossing. Shortly after leaving the 1200m., CONSTANTINE struck the heels of SEANSKI and lost ground when SEANSKI was taken in by MR. LEVI. N. Day, rider of MR. LEVI, was severely reprimanded for failing to allow sufficient when crossing..

When being restrained as FILARE VENTO was crossing from a 3 wide position near the 1000m., SEANSKI raced ungenerously, and KADAZZLE, which was trailing, had to be checked away from the heels of SEANSKI and shifted out to a 3 wide position.

Trainer C. Connors was fined $50 for failing to notify a change of gear for YOUNG BRAVO by the required time.

MORGAN LE FAY and SWELL BOY were a little slow to jump.

Stewards questioned M. Aspinall and trainer J. Denman concerning the seemingly disappointing performance of MORGAN LE FAY, which did not run on as expected over the concluding stages of the race. Mr Denman explained that the horse had been freshened up for today's race, and that he had dropped the mare back in distance to 1800m. from its previous start over 2150m.. He added that he was of the opinion the horse may be better suited over a longer journey than today's distance. A veterinary examination of MORGAN LE FAY failed to reveal any abnormality, and trainer Denman was requested to advise stewards of any condition which may come to his attention in the ensuing days which may have had a bearing on the horse's performance.

RACE 6: CAMPAIGN KING H'CAP - 1000M.

A protest was lodged by S. Seamer, rider of the 2nd placegetter CITICHY, against BUTCH WESTON being declared the winner alleging interference approaching the 200m.. After hearing evidence and viewing the film, the protest was dismissed. In dismissing the protest, stewards were of the opinion that CITICHY, when attempting to improve, shifted out and made heavy contact with BUTCH WESTON, causing that horse to become unbalanced. A short distance later, BUTCH WESTON endeavoured to maintain his position and CITICHY and BUTCH WESTON came into contact on at least 2 occasions. At a subsequent inquiry, S. Seamer was instructed to exercise greater care when shifting ground and endeavouring to improve his position.

T. Pattillo, rider of TURF TIGER, was found guilty of a charge careless riding, in that he permitted his mount to shift in near the 100m. when not clear of MOW DOWN, which resulted in interference being suffered by TOHESERA. T. Pattillo was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 6 February, and to expire at midnight, 16 February 2000.

RACE 7: ALL OUR MOB H'CAP - 1500M.

A. Cowie, rider of SILVER BULLET, was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in near the 700m., causing SWAGGART and DOCTOR DARTBROOK to be tightened for room. DOCTOR DARTBROOK, which was racing on the rails became unbalanced and made contact with SWAGGART as a result of this incident.

PRINCE ADAM made the 600m. crossing awkwardly.

Approaching the home turn, BIRKDALE LAD and WHARF STREET were both tightened for room as UNCLE GWYDIR shifted in under pressure.

RACE 8: DANCING POET H'CAP - 1200M.

TEXAS GAL and BONSHAW both jumped away awkwardly.

Near the 1100m., WHY LOOK shifted in momentarily tightening the ground of DAMIKA. As a consequence ST. COLLUMBANS and JOLTIN JOE became unbalanced when their hind quarters brushed. C. Maund, rider of CHAGATAI, was advised to exercise more care in future in similar circumstances.

Approaching the 1000m. and for some distance after TEXAL GAL, which had jumped away awkwardly, got its head up and raced ungenerously.

THORNBOY, which was held up rounding the home turn, then had difficulty gaining clear running in the straight.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
