WEATHER – FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL – IN TRUE POSITION
RACE 1: NICHOLAS SINGH H'CAP - 1800M
As M Cahill’s arrival on course was delayed, permission was granted for J Stanley to be substituted on FERNDALE.
S Seamer, the rider of REDAREB, accidentally dropped his whip near the 300m.
RACE 2: CANNON HILL PHARMACY H'CAP - 1300M
MISS CEEANNE and TELESIO were both inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.
RACE 3: BROOKSIDE CENTRE PHARMACY H'CAP - 1000M
Trainer D McCaul was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for YANGAN LAD by the prescribed time.
CAROL’S CHOICE and ROYAL PHANTOM made contact at the 800m.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of PARLOUR GAMES, D Walsh stated that the mare was hard pressed to maintain a prominent position in the early stages and was a beaten horse prior to the home turn.
Stable foreman Mr K Olsen indicated that as a reaction to concerns regarding a local virus PARLOUR GAMES had been withdrawn from her engagement at the BTC meeting on 8 April as a precautionary measure when the mare had not eaten up on the night prior to her intended engagement. He added, though, that the mare had since pleased the stable and had continued to work well. Mr Olsen was unable to provide any further explanation for today’s disappointing performance. He did, however, undertake to ensure that PARLOUR GAMES was subjected to further veterinary scrutiny upon returning to her stable. An examination by the Club's veterinary surgeon immediately after the race failed to reveal any significant abnormality and a swab sample was taken.
A swab sample was also taken from the unplaced FESTINO.
RACE 4: PETER SINGH CHEMIST SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1200M
As C Maund was to be overweight, permission was granted for senior rider M Cahill to be substituted in this non-claiming event on ENA’S TREASURE.
From the 500m to the 300m SUZY GREY was held up and unable to obtain clear running.
S Katsidis, the rider of SUZY GREY, accidentally dropped his whip near the 75m.
When questioned regarding the performance of MODEL MATERIAL, N Day stated that the filly dwelt at the start and subsequently made the 600m crossing very awkwardly when racing in a rearward position. He indicated further that as had been the case at Doomben on 25 March, MODEL MATERIAL had tended to switch off when racing back in the field. A veterinary examination of MODEL MATERIAL failed to detect any abnormality.
RACE 5: BRISBANE POLO CLUB EASTER CUP - 2100M
HAYNICK, which took charge of its rider during the preliminary and galloped for some distance, was withdrawn at 3 p.m. on the advice of the Club's veterinary surgeon. On the announcement of correct weight, all moneys invested on HAYNICK were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 4 cents in the dollar on the face value of win and place bets applicable.
A veterinary examination of DIRECTOR’S SPECIAL, which performed disappointingly, failed to reveal any abnormality. A swab sample was taken from DIRECTOR’S SPECIAL. When questioned, S Seamer stated that he allowed DIRECTOR’S SPECIAL to improve three wide from the 700m in order to place the favourite KEN’S JOY in a pocket, however the gelding failed to respond to his riding in the straight and indeed compounded quickly over the final 100m.
RACE 6: BOLLINGER BRIBIE H'CAP - 1200M
CITY FAIR and BEAU JOE bumped at the start.
When questioned regarding his failure to take a run to the inside of BEAU JOE on the home turn, J Taylor explained that prior to the 600m he attempted to improve inside BEAU JOE where there was an available run, however MALLET was reluctant to do so. He added that for this reason he elected to switch around the heels of BEAU JOE on the home turn to improve, however was impeded for a short distance by OLIVIER. J Taylor also reasoned that MALLET had previously finished his races off best when taken to the outside in the straight. J Taylor’s explanation was accepted.
RACE 7: BROOKSIDE PHARMACY SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1400M
KWILA STAR dislodged J Warrington during its preliminary and galloped for some distance. KWILA STAR was subsequently a late withdrawal at 4.19 p.m. acting on the advice of the Club's veterinary surgeon. On the announcement of correct weight, all moneys invested on KWILA STAR were ordered to be refunded with no other alteration to betting.
MAGNIFIER and AMON RA came together at the start.
PAUSE jumped away awkwardly.
YOMBE jumped in at the start making contact with STARTELL which in turn shifted in crowding PRINCE STARLIGHT, PARDONS and FORGING’S LAD.
At the 800m AMON RA ran up on to the heels of MIDSHIPMEN ALL.
RACE 8: PETER SINGH H'CAP - 1500M
EXCLAIM jumped outwards at the start resulting in a general movement of horses in which LORD COVENTRY received the majority of the tightening.
At the 1300m FORCED ASHORE had to be steadied to avoid the heels of HIMALAYA FALCON.
J Stanley, the rider of BRAVE MAC accidentally dropped his whip at the 100m.
ALL WINNERS, PARLOUR GAMES, FESTINO AND DIRECTOR’S SPECIAL WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
