WEATHER – FINE TRACK - FAST RAIL – IN TRUE POSITION
RACE 1: QUEENSLAND DAY SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1300M
After being loaded LARABIA became cast in its barrier and lashed out repeatedly, striking ALPINE WHISTLER which was drawn in the adjoining stall. On the advice of the Club's veterinary surgeon LARABIA and ALPINE WHISTLER were withdrawn at 12.24 p.m. Stewards also ordered the withdrawal of MR. ESTEEM at 12.26 p.m. acting on the advice of the Club's veterinary surgeon that the gelding had sustained a laceration to the off foreleg as a result of crashing through the running rail. On the announcement of correct weight, all monies invested on LARABIA, ALPINE WHISTLER and MR. ESTEEM were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 16 cents in the dollar on the face value of win and place bets made prior to 12.24 p.m. It was further ruled that all bets placed between 12.24 p.m. and 12.26 p.m. would be paid less 6 cents in the dollar on the face value of win and place bets. Trainer B Laming was advised that LARABIA must pass a further barrier test prior to its next race start.
When the pace slackened noticeably at the 800m MIGHT AND GOLD ran up on to the heels of JACK LIVES HERE and had to be checked. OUR JERMYN STREET, which was following, shifted out abruptly, hampering HUGE YEAR and BEAMER. MACHTIG MIHI PANIS also had to be restrained at the same stage.
HUGE YEAR had difficulty obtaining clear running in the straight.
RACE 2: QANTAS CLUB H'CAP - 2200M
NO INCIDENTS
RACE 3: QANTAS LONGREACH H'CAP - 1400M
VATULELE reared as the start was effected and lost ground.
TOBOLSK was also slow to begin.
At the 400m TERTIARY had to be steadied off the heels of MOUGI which shifted out.
On entering the straight SPORTS FREAK was hampered by KENA which in turn was taken out by SILVER PAGE. O. P. Bosson, the rider of SILVER PAGE, was cautioned.
A veterinary examination of MELLIERI, which compounded badly over the concluding stages, failed to reveal any abnormality. When questioned G Colless stated that MELLIERI commenced to overrace on the first turn and as a consequence he was obliged to allow the horse to shift out to a three wide position. He added that MELLIERI continued to overrace and was a beaten horse on the home turn.
RACE 4: SIR EDWARD WILLIAMS H'CAP - 1500M

RACE 5: MULTIPLEX Q.T.C. SIRES’ PRODUCE STAKES SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES - 1400M
On jumping LOVELORN was hampered when tightened for room by EMINENT CHEVAL which shifted in after being taken in by CLONMEL.
At the 1300m THE ALMIGHTY ONE and DE FRANCE both had to be checked when tightened for room between OMBRA DELLA SERA, which was taken in by CENTONA, and STORM SCENE, which was taken out by GLENROWAN. S Katsidis, the rider of CENTONA, was cautioned in relation to this incident.
At the 1100m OMBRA DELLA SERA was momentarily tightened for room by CLONMEL.
At the 900m GLENROWAN had to be steadied off the heels of CHICKIE.
Passing the 800m DE FRANCE took charge of its rider and shifted in abruptly, making heavy contact with GLENROWAN and causing that horse to be severely checked. THE ALMIGHTY ONE in turn had to be checked and shifted in, also resulting in CITIBEST being checked.
At the 300m GLENROWAN was hampered by RAPID MAN which shifted out to improve.
Near the 150m when attempting a run where there was doubtful room between EMINENT CHEVAL and MADISON, LADY MULAN had to be severely checked after receiving a contact from MADISON which in turn shifted in after being bumped by RAPID MAN. M Cahill, the rider of RAPID MAN, was severely reprimanded for failing to stop riding and straighten his mount sooner than he had on this occasion.
When questioned regarding CITIBEST losing its position approaching the 1000m, B Prebble stated that with there being genuine pace in the race, he elected to steady the colt and obtain a position behind LADY MULAN , however the horse appeared to drop the bit and lost more ground than he had anticipated.
RACE 6: THE QANTAS QUEENSLAND OAKS SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES - 2400M
VOILE D’OR and AVILDE were both examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon upon arrival at the course and cleared to start.
FIGURANTE blundered badly at the start.
FLY BY NIGHT also began awkwardly.
G Lynch, the rider of SOPHIE’S GOLD, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, the careless riding being that near the 800m he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of FIGURANTE, resulting in FIGURANTE being checked. G Lynch was suspended for a period of 8 meetings to expire at midnight on Friday, 16 June 2000.
A veterinary examination of VOILE D’OR, which weakened in the straight, failed to reveal any abnormality and a swab sample was taken.
A veterinary examination of LA CHATELAINE, which compounded badly over the concluding stages, failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 7: QANTAS Q.T.C. CUP - 1200M
MAJOR VICTORY jumped away awkwardly and made contact with HIGH ROLLING.
For some distance after leaving the 1000m MAJOR had to be restrained off the heels of LADY OF ARAGON.
At the 100m TE AKAU DANCER was cramped between ROULETTE and MAJOR, both of which shifted ground. In this incident TE AKAU DANCER was accidentally struck across the head by the whip of J Marshall (ROULETTE).
At the 50m LADY OF ARAGON had to be steadied when disappointed for a run between the tiring ST. CLEMENS BELLE and TORUMBA which shifted in under pressure.
When questioned C Munce was at a loss to explain the poor performance of HIGH ROLLING. He advised that whilst the horse was obliged to do some work from its awkward alley, HIGH ROLLING was under pressure prior to the home turn and weakened badly in the straight. Trainer G Waterhouse was similarly mystified by HIGH ROLLING’s performance today, however indicated that the colt would be sent for an immediate spell. A veterinary examination of HIGH ROLLING failed to reveal any abnormality and a swab sample was taken from the colt.
RACE 8: P.J. O’SHEA STAKES - 2400M
Approaching the 200m YIPPYIO was cramped for room between SHARSCAY and BOHEMIATH which shifted out.
Over the concluding stages KEN’S JOY shifted out under pressure and brushed MAKE MINE MAGIC. BOHEMIATH, which was following, shifted in contacting DIAGA.
ALL WINNERS, VOILE D’OR AND HIGH ROLLING WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
