RACE 1: CITY ROWERS H'CAP - 1400M.

MISS CORTONA was very slow to begin. MISS CORTONA will be required to pass another barrier test prior to its next race start.

At the 1100m., TA TA, when pulling hard, shifted out off the heels of CANADIAN COMET, hampering SERINSK and JUST A CUDDLE.

SPIRIT OF GRACE had difficulty obtaining clear running until the 50m..

J. Taylor, rider of BUCOLIC, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that he allowed his mount to shift out near the 100m. when insufficiently clear of LA PHILOMENE, causing that horse to be checked when tightened on to TA TA. J. Taylor was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 26 July, and to expire at midnight, 4 August 2000m..

G. Colless and trainer M. Dux were questioned regarding the tactics adopted today on RAINBOW RIBBONS. M. Dux stated that in issuing instructions to G. Colless, he assessed that there was little pace in the race apart from CHINESE PRINCESS, which was the logical leader. Therefore he advised G. Colless to go forward in the early stages if the mare began well.G. Colless confirmed these instructions and stated that whilst RAINBOW RIBBONS had begun only fairly, he elected to proceed forward soon after the start when there appeared to be no early pace. Whilst no action was taken, M. Dux was reminded of his responsibilities to advise stewards of any contrasting instructions.


RACE 2: CARLTON MIDSTRENGTH H'CAP - 2200M.

VIRGO'S DREAM began very awkwardly.

Approaching the 1200m., VIRGO'S DREAM shifted in, making contact with TIMBERGROVE.

When questioned, G. Colless stated that SUNSET did not muster speed in the early stages as is normally the case. He added that the filly was a beaten horse a long way from home and concluded that she had come to the end of her preparation. Trainer A. Bailey confirmed that SUNSET would now be spelled. A post race veterinary examination of SUNSET failed to reveal any abnormalities.


RACE 3: TATTERSALL'S H'CAP - 1400M.

When questioned, G. Colless was unable to provide any explanation for the poor performance of KHAPTERINO. He stated that the gelding was provided with an easy run, however did not respond to his riding in the straight. A swab sample was taken from KHAPTERINO following a veterinary examination which failed to reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 4: FOSTER'S LIGHT ICE H'CAP - 1600M.

No incidents.


RACE 5: FOSTER'S COUNTRY CUP - 1200M.

SHALARKO blundered at the start.

M. Bennett, rider of HOT SECRET, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that he allowed his mount to shift in soon after the start when not clear of of MAJIKARL, resulting in that horse being taken in on to IRISH BUNNY, which had to be checked. M. Bennett was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 27 July, and to expire at midnight, 6 August 2000m..


RACE 6: MITAVITE SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1200M.

THE WRECK, which was found to have blood in its mouth at the barriers as a result of a small laceration to its lip, was passed fit to start by the club's veterinary surgeon.

Prior to the start being effected, AGGRAVATION reared up and got its near fore leg caught over the stall partition. Acting on the advice of the club's veterinary surgeon, AGGRAVATION was withdrawn at 3.20. On the announcement of correct weight, all monies invested on AGGVATION were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 17 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 15 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets, applicable to successful wagers placed prior to the withdrawal time.

MALTESE POWER and TOBACCO bumped heavily at the start.

Soon after the start, TURNERZ was hampered when tightened for room between MALTESE POWER, which shifted in slightly, and BANYAN BAY, which was taken out by BUTCH WESTON.

Approaching the 800m., OZZEL shifted out, taking LUNCHTIME LEGEND on to TURNERZ, which in turn contacted the hind quarters of PITY OF LOVE.

Passing the finishing line, MALTESE POWER was hampered when tightened for room between THE WRECK and REAL FORCE, which shifted out under pressure.


RACE 7: FOSTER'S TATTERSAL'S MILE - 1600M.

SUPER ESPION was a late scratching on veterinary advice at 3.04 p.m. after injuring its near fore leg in the float en route to the course.

PYRAMID PARK was slow to begin.

BROOKLET BOY, which was also slow to begin, struck the heels of SHE'S ACADEMIC, which shifted in soon after the start. As a consequence of this incident, SHE'S ACADEMIC sustained a laceration to the near hind tendon.

Leaving the 1200m., BROOKLET BOY had to be restrained when cramped for room by DAPPLES, which in turn was taken in by ROVING MINSTREL.

BROOKLET BOY was again hampered for some distance approaching the 600m. when racing in restricted room between JIMBOOMBA JACK and DAPPLES, which was inclined to hang out.

DAPPLES was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.

For some distance after passing the 200m., ROVING MINSTREL was impeded for a run inside the tiring ARABIAN MAGIC.

MOUGI was unable to obtain clear running until the 100m..



RACE 8: CUB SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1400M.

As M. Bennett was to be overweight, M. Carson was substituted as the rider of DOC OLIVER. M. Bennett was fined the sum of $100..

After being loaded, TRUMP OF COLOGNE became very fractious in the barriers and reared up and got its near foreleg caught over the barrier partition. TRUMP OF COLOGNE was withdrawn at 4.33 p.m. acting on the advice of the club's veterinary surgeon that the colt had sustained bruising and lacerations to its near fore leg and nose. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on TRUMP OF COLOGNE were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 5 cents in the dollar on the face value of win and place bets, applicable to successful wagers placed prior to the withdrawal time. Trainer T Miller was advised that he would be required to provide a barrier test certificate for TRUMP OF COLOGNE prior to its next race start.

Passing the 1200m., KEEP RISING got its head up when being steadied off the heels of ARTIQUE, which shifted in. G. Palmer, rider of ARTIQUE, was reminded of his responsibilities to provide at least 2 lengths clearance when shifting ground.


ALL WINNERS AND KHAPTERINO WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.

MALTESE POWER and TOBACCO bumped heavily at the start.

Soon after the start, TURNERZ was hampered when tightened for room between MALTESE POWER, which shifted in slightly, and BANYAN BAY, which was taken out by BUTCH WESTON.

Approaching the 800m., OZZEL shifted out, taking LUNCHTIME LEGEND on to TURNERZ, which in turn contacted the hind quarters of PITY OF LOVE.

Passing the finishing line, MALTESE POWER was hampered when tightened for room between THE WRECK and REAL FORCE, which shifted out under pressure.


RACE 7: FOSTER'S TATTERSAL'S MILE - 1600M.

SUPER ESPION was a late scratching on veterinary advice at 3.04 p.m. after injuring its near fore leg in the float en route to the course.

PYRAMID PARK was slow to begin.

BROOKLET BOY, which was also slow to begin, struck the heels of SHE'S ACADEMIC, which shifted in soon after the start. As a consequence of this incident, SHE'S ACADEMIC sustained a laceration to the near hind tendon.

Leaving the 1200m., BROOKLET BOY had to be restrained when cramped for room by DAPPLES, which in turn was taken in by ROVING MINSTREL.

BROOKLET BOY was again hampered for some distance approaching the 600m. when racing in restricted room between JIMBOOMBA JACK and DAPPLES, which was inclined to hang out.

DAPPLES was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.

For some distance after passing the 200m., ROVING MINSTREL was impeded for a run inside the tiring ARABIAN MAGIC.

MOUGI was unable to obtain clear running until the 100m..



RACE 8: CUB SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1400M.

As M. Bennett was to be overweight, M. Carson was substituted as the rider of DOC OLIVER. M. Bennett was fined the sum of $100..

After being loaded, TRUMP OF COLOGNE became very fractious in the barriers and reared up and got its near foreleg caught over the barrier partition. TRUMP OF COLOGNE was withdrawn at 4.33 p.m. acting on the advice of the club's veterinary surgeon that the colt had sustained bruising and lacerations to its near fore leg and nose. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on TRUMP OF COLOGNE were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 5 cents in the dollar on the face value of win and place bets, applicable to successful wagers placed prior to the withdrawal time. Trainer T Miller was advised that he would be required to provide a barrier test certificate for TRUMP OF COLOGNE prior to its next race start.

Passing the 1200m., KEEP RISING got its head up when being steadied off the heels of ARTIQUE, which shifted in. G. Palmer, rider of ARTIQUE, was reminded of his responsibilities to provide at least 2 lengths clearance when shifting ground.

M. Bennett, rider of HOT SECRET, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that he allowed his mount to shift in soon after the start when not clear of of MAJIKARL, resulting in that horse being taken in on to IRISH BUNNY, which had to be checked. M. Bennett was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 27 July, and to expire at midnight, 6 August 2000m..
