FAST (11.20 A.M.)
RACE 1: FRANKLINS SUPERMARKET SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1000M
DUTCH HARRY began awkwardly.
After travelling 100m PERRI BINGLE shifted out abruptly, resulting in DEAD CAT BOUNCE making heavy contact with the hind quarters of COUNTER AGENT which became unbalanced. COUNTER AGENT lost considerable ground as a result of this incident.
At the 900m OUR SECRET AGENT had to be steadied off the heels of SERENDIPITY SNIP which shifted in when not quite clear. A short distance later OUR SECRET AGENT overacted and shifted out abruptly resulting in FIREFOOT REGAL being checked when tightened on to the hind quarters of CRACKERJACK'S HOPE. While stewards accepted that the greenness of OUR SECRET AGENT had ultimately exacerbated the incident, S Galloway, the rider of SERENDIPITY SNIP, was nonetheless cautioned for initially allowing his mount to shift in when not clear.
Passing the 800m SERENDIPITY SNIP shifted in and made contact with PERRI BINGLE whilst racing greenly.
Near the 200m COUNTER AGENT was obliged to alter course to the inside of the heels of OUR SECRET AGENT which shifted out after being struck with the whip by its rider.
When questioned regarding the performance of PERRI BINGLE, J Byrne stated that the colt became fractious in the barriers and as a consequence began awkwardly. He added that after being forced to ride the horse along in the initial stages, PERRI BINGLE began to travel well, however after leaving the 600m crossing, the horse was immediately under pressure and did not stretch out from that stage. A veterinary examination of PERRI BINGLE subsequent to the event failed to reveal any abnormality. Trainer H R Davis stated that PERRI BINGLE had obviously shown a deal of ability and had performed tractably in trials, however the only excuse he could offer was that the colt had become particularly stirred up prior to the event. Mr Davis undertook to report back to stewards if any abnormality became apparent in the days subsequent to the event.
RACE 2: FRANKLINS FIRST CHOICE H'CAP - 2200M
As A Pattillo was to be ½ kilogram over weight, stewards permitted the substitution of M Cahill on ASSET SWOP.
A veterinary examination of ZACUSHLA after that mare had cooled down revealed it to be short in its action in the off foreleg.
RACE 3: FRANKLINS FRESH H'CAP - 1200M
STUNTMAN got its head up and raced ungenerously for some distance in the early stages when being restrained by its rider.
RACE 4: CITY ROWERS SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1200M
As A Morrison was to be overweight, stewards permitted senior rider M Pelling to be substituted as the rider of LAKES ENTRANCE as no other apprentice rider was available. Given A Morrison's poor record with respect to overweight issues, a 2 week suspension of his licence to ride in races was imposed. A Morrison was also suspended for a period of 2 weeks for failing to obey a direction handed down by stewards at the BTC meeting on 4 November 2000, namely, that he was not to accept rides on horses weighted below 52½ kg unless he had special permission from the stewards. It was ruled that both terms of suspension should be served concurrently, expiring at midnight on Saturday, 16 December 2000.
ARTIQUE blundered badly at the start.
ARAKOOLA and WINNING BLIND came together at the start.
After travelling a short distance WINNING BLIND had to be restrained when tightened for room by WINE CLUB which in turn was influenced by CONDUCT. Whilst it was accepted that WINE CLUB was to some degree inclined to shift in and away from CONDUCT, M Paget, the rider of CONDUCT, was nonetheless severely reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
G Killen, the rider of IT'S GRAND, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that he permitted his mount to shift in at the 1000m when not clear of CONDUCT, resulting in CONDUCT being tightened on to WINE CLUB which had to be checked when tightened for room between that horse and ARTIQUE. ARAKOOLA, which was following and pulling hard, shifted in off the heels of WINE CLUB as that horse lost ground, resulting in TREVISCAY being checked. G Killen was suspended for a period of 8 meetings to commence at midnight on Sunday, 3 December, and expire at midnight on Saturday, 16 December. When WINE CLUB, ARAKOOLA and TREVISCAY lost ground, LAKES ENTRANCE, WINNING BLIND, SPLENDIDO and JUST DEVINE, which were trailing, had to be checked.
Approaching the 800m SPLENDIDO again had to be checked when tightened for room by WINNING BLIND, which improved inside the heels of WINE CLUB when racing fiercely.
ROCKEDGE made the 600m crossing awkwardly.
A veterinary examination of ARTIQUE, which compounded over the concluding stages of the event, failed to reveal any abnormality.
The Club's veterinary surgeon reported that WINE CLUB quartered its inside heel on the off hind leg.
Following his ride on ARTIQUE, S Katsidis was stood down from remaining engagements by the Club's medical officer. Subsequently, the following riding replacements were approved:

Race 6 VERSETIME M Pelling
Race 7 FINAL FORECAST M Paget
Race 8 WEST EXPRESS K Pope
RACE 5: FOSTER'S COUNTRY CUP - 1200M
GRAEME'S CHOICE made the 600m crossing awkwardly.
FLYING FEATHERS made the 600m crossing awkwardly, became unbalanced and lost ground. TERTIARY, which was following, shifted out off the heels of that horse and subsequently made solid contact with FOREST SPRITE which was taken out abruptly on to ROMAN NEWS.
Upon straightening, TERTIARY was momentarily tightened when cramped for room between FOREST SPRITE and ROSE OF GLADFIELD which shifted out to obtain clear running.
RACE 6: TATTERSALL'S CLASSIC - 1200M
TRANSFER began very awkwardly and blundered.
BE COOL threw its head up on jumping away.
After leaving the 600m TRANSFER raced in restricted room inside the heels of VIDA CELESTE. TRANSFER then tended to race ungenerously in the middle stages.
A veterinary examination of TRANSFER subsequent to the event failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 7: RECOGNITION STAKES - 1600M
At the 1000m ANTHEMS struck the heels of MOUGI which at that stage had to be steadied behind BROOKLET BOY.
Approaching the 50m CEREMONIAL DANCER shifted in and brushed CARNELIAN. CARNELIAN reacted by laying back against CEREMONIAL DANCER over the concluding stages of the event.
RACE 8: CLICK ON TEN H'CAP - 1300M
After being loaded, CALL THE COPS became fractious and reared up, pinning its rider S Galloway momentarily. As a result of injuries to both legs, S Galloway was unable to take the mount on CALL THE COPS, which was subsequently withdrawn at 4.56 p.m. On the announcement of correct weight, all monies invested on CALL THE COPS were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 2 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets and 3 cents in the dollar on the faced value of place bets applicable. Stable foreman Mr L Birchley was advised that CALL THE COPS must perform an official barrier test prior to its next race start.
LUK KAI LUK was held up for clear running over the final 100m.
SUPERBLAST was also impeded over the concluding stages of the race.
M Pelling, the rider of the 2nd placegetter CRYPTIC RED, was cautioned for allowing his mount to shift in abruptly over the concluding stages of the event.
