QLD TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SAT.16.12.00

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr S. Railton (Chairman); Mr A. Reardon; Mr J. Hackett; Mr C. Clifford; Mr R. Sanders; Mr W. Flynn.

WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - OUT 2M. ALL TRACK

GENERAL: From BTC.13.12.00

Trainer M. Dunn was fined $50 for failing to provide the Document of Description for SPIRIT AND PRIDE.

Trainer J.P. Wallace was fined $50 for failing to submit a stable return for a change of gear on CAPTAIN NEMO.

RACE 1: STAR OF BETHLEHEM H'CAP - 1200M.

J. Stanley, rider of the 4th placegetter, OUR PARTNER, was unable to fully test that gelding over the final 50m. when held up behind EMINENT CHEVAL and SWIRLER.

RACE 2: CHRISTMAS H'CAP - 1810M.

The start was delayed when MIGHTY COOL proved difficult to load. Trainer K. Tinsley was advised that MIGHTY COOL must pass a further barrier test prior to its next race start.

RACE 3: C.E.MCDOUGALL SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES - 1200M.

On return to scale, a protest was lodged by K. Pope, rider of the 4th placegetter, DE CANNY, against WHAM BAM being declared 2nd, alleging interference over the final 100m.. It was established that after being taken in by WHAM BAM, DE CANNY was crowded on to SERENDIPITY SNIP near the 50m.. After being straightened by its rider, C. Reith, WHAM BAM again shifted in under pressure close to the finish line, causing some inconvenience to DE CANNY. Having regard to the margin which separated both horses at the finish, the stewards could not be satisfied that the interference suffered by DE CANNY was sufficient to reverse the placings, and therefore K. Pope's objection was dismissed. At a subsequent inquiry, C. Reith was reprimanded for failing to make sufficient effort to keep WHAM BAM on a true course despite its waywardness.

MISS MARTINDALE began awkwardly and made contact with COTTON BRAE.

SHANNON LEE was inconvenienced at the start when bumped by QUEEN AMIDALA, which jumped outwards.

On jumping away, S. Katsidis, rider of TRANSPARENT LASS, became unbalanced in the saddle after his mount received a solid bump from SERENDIPITY SNIP.

SHA ALMA jumped away awkwardly and soon after the start had to be steadied when cramped for room by ENGLISH TYCOON, which shifted in and away from DE CANNY. When questioned, S. Seamer stated that as soon as he took hold of SHA ALMA, the filly dropped the bit and would not hold its ground despite his urgings. He further added that throughout the middle stages SHA ALMA continued to show no response to his efforts to improve his position, and it was only when brought to the outside in the straight that the filly gathered momentum. A veterinary examination of SHA ALMA failed to reveal any abnormality.

GUMTREE raced greenly in the early stages and approaching the 1000m. had to be restrained when racing in restricted room between ENGLISH TYCOON and DIVA DIVINE.

GUMTREE again had to be steadied near the 500m. due to its own greenness.

J. Taylor, rider of GUMTREE, was obliged to pull the whip through to his right hand due to that filly's tendency to lay in under pressure in the straight.

At the 200m, DE CANNY ran up on to the heels of WHAM BAM and was obliged to shift inwards.

A veterinary examination of MISS MARTINDALE, which weakened badly over the final 100m., failed to reveal any abnormality.

RACE 4: J.F. MEYNINK SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES - 1200M.

TAG AND RELEASE was slow to begin.

Passing the 800m., MY TRUE NORTH shifted in, tightening BLUE HORSESHOE on to HEAVEN'S QUEST.

STRATEGIC IMAGE jumped the 600 metre crossing.

MAC HEART raced wide rounding the home turn.

RACE 5: KING OF KINGS H'CAP - 1400M.

HALOGEN, which sustained injuries whilst being transported to the course, was withdrawn at 12.03 p.m..

BEAR RAID began awkwardly and lost ground.

When questioned regarding BUCCOLIC settling near the tail of the field, N. Day confirmed he had instructions to position the mare midfield, and after leaving the barriers he attempted to take up a position behind FRENCH MOVIE STAR in accordance with his instructions. He further added that this attempt was thwarted by BEAR RAID, which improved quickly to his inside after missing the start, which ultimately forced BUCCOLIC into a 3 wide position. He concluded by saying that rather than being caught wide he elected to ease the filly to obtain a position closer to the fence, which left him further back in the field than he had intended.

RACE 6: GOLDEN GARTER SERIES H'CAP - 1300M.

MIDNIGHT SEAS was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon at the barriers and passed fit to start.

KAREN'S WAY began awkwardly
J. Stanley, rider of SAFETY PINS, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 1100m. he allowed his mount to shift in at an acute angle, resulting in SAFETY PINS getting onto the heels of CRESTFALLEN. SAFETY PINS then shifting in abruptly, causing DYNAMIC LOVE to be checked and in turn tightened on to TRANSFER, which blundered badly when taken in on to the heels of DYNAMIC REASON. In this incident, KAREN'S WAY and MIDNIGHT SEAS also suffered some interference. J. Stanley was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 20 December, and to expire at midnight, 31 December 2000.

When shifting in at the 900m., BE COOL had to be steadied off the heels of SAFETY PINS, which was racing ungenerously.

A veterinary examination of TRANSFER, which sustained interference, failed to reveal any abnormality.

RACE 7: SANTA CLAUS H'CAP - 1200M.

TURF KING began awkwardly and made heavy contact with DEVIL'S MATE, which in turn bumped RIVER AFFAIR.

From the 600m. crossing until the 450m. WINNING BLIND race fiercely.

D. Wheeler, rider of UMPIRE, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that he directed his mount around the heels of DASH OF BAY at the 250m., resulting in TURF KING being checked. D. Wheeler was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings. It was ordered that this suspension commence at midnight, 24 December 2000 when a previously imposed suspension expires. The careless riding suspension will therefore conclude at midnight, 4 January 2001.

Over the final 50m., WINNING BLIND was impeded between RIVER AFFAIR and OFFICER MATERIAL, which was taken out slightly by UMPIRE.

A. Pattillo, rider of MOVING VIOLATION, reported that the breastplate on the gelding broke during the race, which resulted in his saddling moving.

RACE 8: YULETIDE H'CAP - 1600M.

Soon after the start, CHARIOT'S ISLE had to be restrained after being brushed by HICKEY PARK, which shifted out.

HICKEY PARK commenced to race fiercely at the 1200m. and shifted out, hampering BASS STRAIT.
When HICKEY PARK shifted back to resume its position at the 1100m., BOYKAMBIL, which had made ground to that 's horse's inside, was taken in on to REPSHOT, which in turn resulted in CHARIOT'S ISLE being steadied when cramped for room. Whilst it was accepted that the pace of the race and HICKEY PARK'S racing manners had contributed to the incident, S. Seamer, rider of HICKEY PARK, was cautioned.

At the same stage, EXCLAIM had to be steadied off ANSONIA due to the slow pace.

S. Galloway, rider of the 4th placegetter, EXCLAIM, will be interviewed with regard to his riding of that gelding over the concluding stages.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
