WEATHER - FINE TRACK - FAST RAIL - OUT 5M. ALL TRACK
GENERAL: From QTC Meeting, 16.12.00
Stewards conducted an inquiry in S. Galloway's riding of the 4th placegetter, EXCLAIM, over the concluding stages in race 8, the Yuletide H'cap at the above meeting. Subsequently, S. Galloway was fined the sum of $250 for failing to ride his mount out to the finish of the race.
RACE 1: HOLLYWOOD PARK H'CAP - 1500M.
As A. Pattillo was to be overweight, J. Taylor was substituted as the rider of GARUDA PRINCE. A. Pattillo was fined $400.
Trainer M. Tremble was fined $50 for failing to present JATOMICK on course by the prescribed time.
NETWORKER was slow to begin.
JATOMICK began very slowly and lost considerable ground at the start.
NETWORKER broke down and was retired from the event near the 1000m.. The club's veterinary surgeon reported that NEWWORKER was lame in the near fore fetlock.
GENTEEL BOY made the 600m. crossing awkwardly.
RACE 2: SANTA ANITA H'CAP - 1826M.
ACORN ICON was slow to begin.
A veterinary examination of MARINE BOY following the event revealed the gelding to be lame in the near fore leg.
RACE 3: WOODBINE H'CAP - 1200M.
After jumping away awkwardly and making contact with GUMTREE, WHEELAWAY shifted back in in and bumped SHA ALMA.
MR. MONEYMAKER lost ground at the 600m. when reluctant to hold its position inside WHEELAWAY, and soon afterwards hung out momentarily.
At the 500m., MR. MONEYMAKER shifted back in whilst racing greenly and hampered JUANMO.
After being held up for a run in the early stages of the straight, SHANNON LEE was again impeded when attempting a run between BACK POCKET and GRAND ESTIME.at the 100m..
Leaving the 100m., WHEELAWAY was hampered when tightened for room between GUMTREE and JUANMO, which shifted out to obtain clear running. G. Colless, rider of JUANMO, was cautioned.
In the straight, QUEEN AMIDALA was held up behind MAGNAFORCE.
RACE 4: CHURCHILL DOWNS H'CAP - 1200M.
NOBLESSE jumped awkwardly and lost ground.
Approaching the 800m., NOBLESSE, which had a tendency to race ungenerously, had to be steadied when cramped for room by NAKED EYE.
RACE 5: BELMONT PARK H'CAP - 1400M.
An inquiry was conducted into the dual engagement of J. Byrne for DIAMOND DANE and BRAVE HAWK. After interviewing the relevant parties, stewards ruled that J. BYRNE ride DIAMOND DANE. J. Stanley took the ride on BRAVE HAWK. Subsequently, rider's agent Mr T. Lanskey, who accepted responsibility for the error, was fined $200.
MODEL MATERIAL, which threw itself down in the parade ring, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
Approaching the 1200m., CONDUCT got its head up whilst being steadied and lost ground.
CONDUCT again had to be restrained at the 800m. when momentarily tightened for room by MIDNIGHT WARRIOR.
Leaving the 200m., BRAVE HAWK was momentarily tightened for room between FLYING SPARKS and STAR SENSATION.
RACE 6: AQUEDUCT H'CAP - 1200M.
No racing incidents.
RACE 7: ARLINGTON H'CAP - 1400M.
SMOOCHIE SMOOCH missed the start badly. A warning was placed on SMOOCHIE SMOOCH.
Rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight, WEST EXPRESS was held up behind PASSMORE.
RACE 8: LAUREL PARK H'CAP - 1200M.
WANCHAI LADY, KAORU QUEEN and MAKE A WISH were slow to begin.
Approaching the 1000m., ASPEN VALLEY had to be steadied when tightened for room by BLUE CELESTE, which in turn, was taken in momentarily by LILY'S BABY. J. Byrne, rider of LILY'S BABY, was reprimanded and urged to exercise more care.
After initially being taken out by ROSE OF GLADFIELD in the early stages of the straight, RAW KISMET continued to shift out slightly, resulting in the tiring OUR SILVER LINING striking the heels of that mare near the 250m.. N. Tomizawa (ROSE OF GLADFIELD) and T. Ikenushi (RAW KISMET) was both cautioned regarding this incident.
BREAK AND ENTER was inclined to lay in in the straight when held up for clear running.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
