QUEENSLAND TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SAT. 17.03.01

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr S Railton (Chairman), Mr A Reardon, Mr J Hackett, Mr C Clifford, Mr J Williamson (Cadet), Mr M Tutt (Cadet)

WEATHER – FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL – IN TRUE POSITION

RACE 1: WORLD TRADE CENTRE BRISBANE H'CAP – 1500M

SKARLOEY, which injured itself en route to the course, was a late withdrawal at 11.41 a.m. acting on veterinary advice.

COME TO ORDER lost its near fore plate in running.

RACE 2: CREDITLINK H'CAP – 1800M

Due to a clerical error J Pollard was shown as the rider of SMOOTH LEWY when in fact apprentice A Merritt had been substituted for J Pollard prior to the deadline for jockey declaration.

Prior to correct weight being semaphored, stewards considered an approach from apprentioce D Crossland to ascertain whether TROUBLE IN HEAVEN had in fact been afforded a fair start. After taking evidence from all relevant parties it was established that TROUBLE IN HEAVEN, which had been fractious in the barriers, reared simultaneously with the start being effected and lost considerable ground. Stewards were satisfied that TROUBLE IN HEAVEN had not been prevented from jumping by the barrier attendant who was merely attempting to assist apprentice D Crossland. Accordingly, stewards deemed TROUBLE IN HEAVEN to be a runner.

S Seamer reported that MACROSTRIKE, which raced three wide throughout the event, had pulled up short in its action. A subsequent veterinary examination of the gelding, however, failed to reveal any abnormality.

RACE 3: WANLESS WASTECORP SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP – 1200M

PRIME OF LIFE and PEDRO'S TYCOON bumped at the start.

Passing the 800m GANGA ran up on to the heels of PRIME OF LIFE and had to be checked.

After leaving the 600m SHA ALMA bumped the hind quarters of CANTANTES, resulting in CANTANTES becoming momentarily unbalanced.

Approaching the 300m GANGA had to be checked when tightened for room between SHA ALMA and VIKING SPIRIT which shifted out whilst racing greenly.

RACE 4: PERSONALISED PLATE – 1400M

Trainer J Lyons was fined $50 for failing to present MOVING VIOLATION on course by the prescribed time.

As the start was effected VIA SINAI reared and lost ground. This resulted in J Stanley's left foot becoming displaced from the iron, which he then took a short distance to regain. As VIA SINAI had not previously offended in a similar manner in its career, trainer P McLeod was advised that a warning was being placed on that gelding.

BLESSED TYCOON was slow to begin.

MOVING VIOLATION, which hung out from the 600m, was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon who reported that the gelding was sore in the off foreleg. Trainer J Lyons was advised that MOVING VIOLATION must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial before its next race start.

RACE 5: NICOL ROBINSON HALLETS H'CAP – 1300M

CITY HALL was slow to begin.

On the home turn WESTERN DALE had to be steadied when cramped for room by CITY HALL which shifted in slightly.

THE LONDON BANKER shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.

RACE 6: QUEENSLAND CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY H'CAP – 1600M

Following his ride on FIRE BRIGHT in Race 4, G Palmer was stood down from his remaining engagement by the Club's medical officer and was replaced on CELTIC REVENGE by K Pope.

MISS CEEANNE was slow to begin.

CELTIC REVENGE blundered as the start was effected.

WILD TOSS bled during the event. As this was the first occasion on which the gelding has bled, it will incur a mandatory three-month ban from racing. A swab sample was taken from WILD TOSS.

RACE 7: PMP PRINT SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP – 1200M

The start was delayed when TRUMP OF COLOGNE proved difficult to load. Trainer T Miller was advised that a warning was being placed on TRUMP OF COLOGNE.

TRUMP OF COLOGNE began awkwardly which resulted in its rider K Pope becoming unbalanced.

After being disappointed for a run between COMMAND FORCE and STARS IN BARS for some distance near the 200m, S Katsidis, the rider of RULENZA ROAD, was then unable to test that gelding over the final 50m when held up behind ENA'S TREASURE.

RACE 8: ENTERPRISING WOMEN H'CAP – 1200M

STRANGER and POINT came together at the start.

When attempting a narrow run between CLAYTAY and CASUAL WAY near the 200m, MISTER I AM had to be checked when CASUAL WAY shifted out. Given the slight nature of the shift, J Stanley, the rider of MISTER I AM, was issued with a severe reprimand.

ALL WINNERS AND WILD TOSS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
