FROM QTC MEETING, 31.3.01

Trainer R. McCall reported that RANCODA pulled up sore in both shoulders.

Trainer M. Lakey reported that subsequent to competing at the above meeting, RICH SOUND was found to have bowed its off fore tendon.

FROM QPC OFFICES, 3.4.01

Stewards inquired into a complained lodged by Deagon Trackwork Manager G. Mawhinney regarding an incident which occurred during a trackwork session on 27 March. After taking evidence from G. Mawhinney, trainer J. Lyons and trackwork rider D. Nutley, J. Lyons pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 8(d), in that he used audible obscene language at the abovementioned date and track. Stewards subsequently fined J. Lyons the sum of $200m.


RACE 1: HOURLY H'CAP - 1200M.

As A. Morrison was indisposed, D. Griffin was substituted as the rider of SLEEK ALI, N. Tomizawa as the rider of SAHARA SUZY (Race 5).

JUST LIKE ALI jumped awkwardly and shifted in, making contact with PARIS PIKE.

KING'S CONCERT also jumped awkwardly and shifted in and brushed the hind quarters of JUST LIKE ALI.

JUST LIKE ALI blundered after leaving the 600m. crossing.


RACE 2: PLANET RULER H'CAP - 1200M.

VOWORANA was slow to begin.

SAHARA COVET shifted in at the start and made contact with HIT AND RUN.

Passing the 800m., GALLOPER GILES was obliged to steady off the heels of VOWORANA.

RACE 3: MOLLY'S ROBE H'CAP - 1200M.

As C. Maund was to be overweight, J. Walk was substituted as the rider of SPICY AFFAIR. C. Maund was fined $200.

CARANI was buffeted on jumping away between GRAND ESTIME and SPICY AFFAIR.

After leaving the 1000m., ALI'S ROSE had to be steadied off the heels of MISS BENING.

Near the 800m., PALIDAMAH had to be steadied off the heels of PITCHIN' WOO.

M. Smith-Lester, rider of DARLING AQUA, was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in near the 850m. when not clear of CARANI, causing CARANI to be steadied.

Approaching the 200m., SPICKY AFFAIR had to be checked to avoid the heels of the tiring CASSALLIE.

A veterinary examination of CASSALLIE revealed the filly to have been galloped on on the near hind leg.


RACE 4: FLYING ACE H'CAP - 2225M.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of MYSTIFYING, G. Colless stated he could offer no excuse for the mare, adding that MYSTIFYING was under pressure from the 700m. when racing to the outside of ALMIGHTY ALLIANCE. A veterinary examination of MYSTIFYING failed to reveal any abnormality and a swab sample was taken.


RACE 5: SEVEN FIFTY H'CAP - 1600M.

On jumping away, CAPE SCHANCK was briefly tightened for room between JHANSI KI RANI and KARMA COUNTY, which was taken in by SHERIFF WOODY.

Approaching the 1400m., BRILENA shifted out and made heavy contact with TANJENONG, which in turn shifted out and bumped LIGHT SHADE.

After passing the 1200m., TANJENONG commenced to pull hard and had to be restrained for some distance off the heels of runners in front.

Near the 500m., CAPE SHANCK had to be steadied off the heels of LIGHT SHADE.

CAPE SHANCK was disappointed for a run between JHANSI KI RANI and LIGHT SHADE near the 100m..

MISS FREEZE had difficulty obtaining clear running from the 100m..


RACE 6: AUSTRALIAN TURF BOWLERS CARNIVAL H'CAP - 1000M.

On return to scale a protest was lodged by N. Evans, rider of the second placegetter, RAPPAREE, against VAINQUEUR being declared the winner, alleging interference approaching the finish line. It was established that inside the 50m., VAINQUEUR shifted in and made contact with RAPAREE, causing that horse to become unbalanced. Taking into account the nose margin between both horses at the finish, stewards upheld the protest and amended the Judge's placings to read: No. 1 - RAPAREE - 1st; No. 2. VAINQUEUR - 2nd; No. 10 - MEDIEVAL MAESTRO - 3rd; No. 5 - SHE'S A TAAN - 4th. In this incident, MEDIVAL MAESTRO, which was following, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of RAPAREE, which shifted in.

RAPAREE shifted in on jumping away, making heavy contact with PLUM'S GAMBLE, which in turn made contact with SHERLOCK.

Near the 500m., MEDIEVAL MAESTRO had to be checked off the heels of PERSONALISE and shifted out, making contact with VAINQUEUR.

A veterinary examination of PERSONALISE following the event revealed the gelding to have re-strained its off fore tendon.


RACE 7: EARLWOOD H'CAP - 1300M.

Apprentice D. Wheeler was fined $100 for failing to claim any portion of his allowance on YOUNG BRAVO. D. Wheeler was subsequently replaced by N. Tomizawa.

MAGICO and MEAN WINE were both slow to begin.

Inside the 400m., MAGICO had to be checked when attempting to improve between PARIS RUN and the tiring PEKAN BAY.

PEKAN BAY bled during the event. Connections were advised that PEKAN BAY will be barred from racing for a period of 3 months. A swab sample was taken from PEKAN BAY.


RACE 8: BLUE SLIPPER H'CAP - 1300M.

No racing incidents.


ALL WINNERS MYSTIFYING AND PEKAN BAY WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
