WEATHER - FINE TRACK - DEAD RAIL - OUT 5M. ALL TRACK
GENERAL: Trainer N. McBurney reported that a veterinary examination of SPACE AGE, which finished unplaced in the Prime Minister's Cup at the Gold Coast Turf Club on Wednesday, 16 May, revealed that the gelding was suffering from heart arrythmia. Mr McBurney was advised that SPACE AGE would be required to pass an official barrier trial, and for a satisfactory ECG to be carried out prior to its next race start.
As G. Colless was to be overweight on TWIN FORTUNE (Race2) and AWESOME GLADIATOR (Race 4), he was replaced by K. McEvoy and G. Boss respectively. G. Colless was fined $300.
RACE 1: C.H.R. EMPLOYMENT SERVICES H'CAP - 1600M.
PRINCESS NEDIYM hung in under pressure in the straight, which prevented its rider J. Byrne from being able to fully test that mare. PRINCESS NEDIYM'S racing manners were drawn to the attention of trainer B. Kehl.
CAPTAIN TEST was held up for clear running until the 250m.. CAPTAIN TEST eventually made contact with ANNALEA when shifting out around the heels of TEST RUN. at the 250m..
OLIVIER was also unable to obtain clear running until after passing the 200m..
RACE 2: LOGAN INSURANCE SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1200M.
TREVISCAY jumped away very awkwardly and made contact with EMINENT CHEVAL.
BLUE CELESTE race fiercely in the middle stages and was inclined to hang out.
S. Seamer reported that TREVISCAY was also inclined to hang out during the event.
Approaching the 200m., DE FRANCE was hampered when cramped for room between GELIGNITE JACK, which after being held up for a run in the early stages of the event, shifted out around the heels of TREVISCAY, and JUST DEVINE, which was inclined to lay in under pressure.
In the early stages of the straight, TWIN FORTUNE was held up for a run behind JUST AWE.
BLUEBIRD HILL was also held up for a run from the 400m. to the 200m..
S. Katsidis advised that the bit pulled through JUST DEVINE'S mouth during the event.
RACE 3: ALMA VALE STUD H'CAP - 1600M.
ROCKET BALL and MOUGI came into contact making the home turn.
The club's veterinary surgeon reported that CONFERENCE pulled up distressed following the event.
RACE 4: Q & S MIGRATION SERVICES SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1400M.
At the 1100m., FLYING ANA had to be steadied off the heels of HEART OF LIGHT, which shifted in.
BIGGE ISLE raced greenly throughout the event.
RACE 5: GLENLOGAN PARK METROPOLITAN H'CAP - 2200M.
SILENT IMPACT pulled extremely hard throughout the early and middle stages of the event.
At the 500m. PARTY KING shifted in slightly and brushed MIDNIGHT BABE, which as a consequence overreacted and lost ground. SILENT IMPACT, which was following, was also hampered. S. Seamer, rider of PARTY KING, was urged to exercise greater care.
When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on ROYAL TREEN in today's event as compared to those employed on the gelding at Eagle Farm on 5 May, J. Byrne stated he had no specific instructions to lead, however with the lack of pace in the event, connections had provided him with flexible instructions, but the overall intention was to have the horse racing in a handy position. He indicated that on the first turn when B. York, rider of SILENT IMPACT, and G. Colless,rider of CITRA'S PRINCE, showed no desire to lead, he allowed ROYAL TREEN to stride to the front. J. Byrne further added that the tactics employed on the horse at its previous start at Eagle Farm when ridden back in the field, were influenced by the shorter distance and the horse's poor draw. Stable representative, Mr S. Foster indicated that ROYAL TREEN had proven to be an adaptable middle distance performer which had occasionally raced on the pace when circumstances permitted. These explanations were accepted.
RACE 6: QBBS GRAND PRIX STAKES SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES - 2200M.
Trainer G .Stewart was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for FEED THE METER by the required time.
THE ALMIGHTY ONE began awkwardly.
AWESOME WEATHER sprawled at the start.
STAR OF THE SEAS was slow to begin.
Leaving the 1400m., AWESOME WEATHER had to be restrained to avoid the heels of LOVELORN, which shifted in when not quite clear. M. Cahill, rider of LOVELORN, was cautioned.
At the 500m., STAR OF THE SEAS was hampered when momentarily held up behind the tiring GO BINT.
When questioned, G. Boss advised that the saddle on FETES GALANTES shifted forward near the 1800m. and remained in that position for the rest of the event. He indicated as a consequence he was placed in an awkward position and that this occurrence had prejudiced the filly's chances.
RACE 7: GLENLOGAN PARK DR JOHN POWER H'CAP - 1200M.
SPYING was slow to begin.
When being steadied to avoid the heels of MAKE MINE MAGIC approaching the 1000m., RUTHLESS TYCOON made contact with SAHARA COVET, which had made ground to that horse's inside. As a result of this contact, SAHARA COVET was inclined to lay out on to RUTHLESS TYCOON, which resulted in that horse being hampered when being checked off the heels of MAKE MINE MAGIC. G. Colless, rider of MAKE MINE MAGIC, was cautioned and reminded of his obligations to provide sufficient clearance.
Passing the 300m., HIRE was momentarily cramped for room between IGLESIA and DYNAMIC LOVE, which drifted out slightly under pressure.
The club's veterinary surgeon reported that PRINCE HAKEEM had bled from one nostril during the event.
RACE 8: MITAVITE H'CAP - 1500M.
As L. Cassidy was to be overweight, C. Munce was substituted as the rider of BACKLINE. L. Cassidy was fined $100.
RAINBOW RIBBONS, which brushed its off hip in the swabbing compound prior to the event was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
Soon after the start, WEST EXPRESS shifted out, taking PAUSE out on to NOELLE BRASELLE, which in turn resulted in BACKLINE being checked off the heels of NOELLE BRASELLE.
NOELLE BRASELLE and AMAIZCAY bumped at the 1200m..
LORD HOBBITT got its head up and raced ungenerously in the middle stages. WEST EXPRESS, which was racing to that horse's outside, was forced to cover extra ground as a consequence.
AMAIZCAY was also obliged to race wide in the middle stages.
AFLAC was held up for clear running in the early part of the straight.
A swab sampled was taken from the unplaced RAINBOW RIBBONS.
ALL WINNERS AND RAINBOW RIBBONS AND STAR OF THE SEAS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
