STEWARDS PANEL: Mr S Railton (Chairman), Mr J Hackett, Mr C McLune, Mr W Geggie, Mr R Sanders, C Ferguson (Cadet)

WEATHER – FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL – OUT 1M

GENERAL: As S Katsidis was to be overweight, the following riding replacements were approved:

Race 4 SPRIGHTLY NOBLE J Stanley
Race 8 MORUYA J Taylor

S Katsidis was fined the sum of $300.

RACE 1: SANDOWN MARINE H'CAP – 1200M

At the 1100m RAW KISMET had to be steadied to avoid the heels of KEWPIE DOLL which at that stage was taken in by JUST DEVINE. Z Purton, the rider of JUST DEVINE, was reminded of his obligation to be two lengths clear when shifting ground.

SPECIAL ISSUE and LINEA were both held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.

RACE 2: LOVE ME VEGIES H'CAP – 1600M

SCRIBBLY GUM was momentarily held up behind SAXAPHONE and CASUAL REWARD in the early stages of the straight.

At the 300m RAVEN'S PAL shifted out under pressure, resulting in SAXAPHONE being taken out on to CASUAL REWARD which in turn brushed the hind quarters of LUNCHTIME LEGEND. As a consequence of contact on its hind quarters, LUNCHTIME LEGEND was then inclined to lay in further crowding CASUAL REWARD and SAXAPHONE.

RACE 3: RSL CABOOLTURE H'CAP – 1800M

Z Purton, the rider of EPIC FLYER, was fined $50 for failing to claim down to his designated riding weight of 50kg.

ILZE jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

RACE 4: BYRNE FORD H'CAP – 1500M

BLESSED TYCOON and SURE SIGN were slow to begin.

Throughout the early and middle stages GLADMAC raced ungenerously with its head in the air.

GLADMAC was obliged to race wide rounding the home turn.

RACE 5: STRATHPINE COTTAGE FURNITURE H'CAP – 1800M

MR. IVAN was held up for clear running between the 400m and the 300m.

A veterinary examination of GREASE, which weakened badly in the straight, failed to reveal any abnormality.

RACE 6: TRACKFORCE NEW HOLLAND SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP – 1600M

ASHLEY KATE was slow to begin.

R Pittman, the rider of TOPPA, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that near the 1300m he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of THESPIAN PRINCE, initially resulting in THESPIAN PRINCE cramping the running of CHAMPION OF DANES which was severely hampered as a consequence. A short distance later, as TOPPA continued to shift in, THESPIAN PRINCE clipped the heels of that horse and blundered. R Pittman was suspended for a period of 8 meetings to commence at midnight on Wednesday, 18 July, and expire at midnight on Wednesday, 1 August.

When questioned regarding the performance of CHAMPION OF DANES, M Cahill stated that he was instructed to take advantage of his good barrier, however after travelling 300m the colt put in a couple of awkward strides when it sustained some tightening. He added, however, that CHAMPION OF DANES appeared to recover from this incident and travelled well until the home turn where he placed the horse under full pressure. M Cahill stated that whilst CHAMPION OF DANES appeared reluctant to stretch out between runners in the early part of the straight, the colt was nonetheless most disappointing. Stable foreman Mr S Broderick was unable to provide any explanation for CHAMPION OF DANES, indicating that the stable had anticipated a forward showing in today's event. A veterinary examination of CHAMPION OF DANES immediately after the race failed to reveal any abnormality. Therefore, a swab sample was taken.

RACE 7: FM104 TRIPLE M ASCOT H'CAP – 1400M

Leaving the 1200m NOVA commenced to hang in despite the efforts of its rider J Stanley, resulting in GRAND CHARIOT being taken in and eventually causing GRAND CHARIOT to contact the hind quarters of LAURIE'S LOTTERY. When GRAND CHARIOT was carried in by NOVA, CRYPTAVIA which was racing to the inside of the heels of GRAND CHARIOT was taken in for a number of strides resulting in crowding to PERFECT PARADISE and BANFF CONNECTION which had to be severely checked.

RACE 8: BODY BRONZE H'CAP – 1200M

NO RACING INCIDENTS.

ALL WINNERS AND CHAMPION OF DANES WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
