QLD TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SAT.17.11.01

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr S. Railton (Chairman), Mr A. Reardon, Mr J. Hackett, Mr W. Flynn, Mr P. Gillard.

WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - TRUE POSITION

RACE 1: SKY ACE H'CAP - 2200M.

Both BRASSED and PINNACE began awkwardly.

GO HAYLEY GO jumped inwards at the start, inconveniencing LIGHT SHADE.

When pulling hard approaching the 1600m., GO HAYLEY GO shifted out and made contact with LORDNOR.

Approaching the 1300m., MR. FIORELLI had to be checked when tightened for room by BRASSED. It was established that approaching this point, the pace slackened noticeably, which resulted in BRASSED improving quickly up on to the heels of PINNACE. As a consequence, BRASSED then shifted in, tightening MR. FIORELLI. Whilst satisfied that M. Rodd, rider of BRASSED, was not fully responsible for the incident, he was nonetheless reprimanded for failing to make a greater effort to prevent a tightening to MR. FIORELLI.

Near the 200m., GO HAYLEY GO was momentarily impeded when PINNACE shifted out slightly.

Passing the 100m., J. Pollard, rider of GO HAYLEY GO, was obliged to restrain that mare and alter course to the inside to obtain clear running due to PINNACE continuing to shift out under pressure. MAMANUCA also suffered some inconvenience in this incident. S. Galloway, rider of PINNACE, was severely reprimanded for failing to stop riding and straighten his mount.

RACE 2: THE MONK SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1000M.

After being slow to begin, TIDE TURNER veered in and had to be steadied off the heels of SAAMI KNIGHT, which had also jumped away awkwardly.

MISHAEL was also slow to begin.

At the 500m., TIDE TURNER shifted out and bumped TELESTAR.

The racing manners of KOBI COVE, which raced ungenerously in the early stages, were drawn to the attention of trainer M. Mair. Mr Mair indicated that KOBI COVE would now be sent for a spell.

RACE 3: GREY AFFAIR H'CAP - 1600M.

Trainer L. Gough was fined $50 for failing to present FINNIGAN on course by the prescribed time.

JEUNE'S JESTER jumped away awkwardly, and then shifted out, inconveniencing COSMIC COMET and NEPELLE.

G. Colless reported that JEUNE'S JESTER overraced in the early stages, and his efforts to settle the horse were hindered by the fact that the gelding had a tendency to hang out.

DIAMOND ZOFF balked at the 600m. crossing, became unbalanced and lost ground abruptly. NEPELLE, which was following, had to be checked off the heels of that gelding. M. Pelling advised that as a consequence of this incident he had some concerns regarding DIAMOND ZOFF'S action, therefore he did not test the gelding in the straight. A veterinary examination of DIAMOND ZOFF soon after the event failed to reveal any abnormality.

RACE 4: HOT RECEPTION H'CAP - 1300M.

SKYMAKER was a late scratching at 9.15 a.m. on veterinary advice.

No racing incidents.

RACE 5: C.E.B. BARNES PLATE - 2400M.

As a consequence of JIBWAA pulling hard in the early stages, the saddle shifted forward on the gelding, placing its rider, J. Taylor, in some difficulty.

MARQUIS broke down at the 900m.. The club's veterinary surgeon reported that MARQUIS had fractured its off fore fetlock and was subsequently euthanised on humane grounds. S. Katsidis, who was dislodged from MARQUIS, escaped any apparent injury.

RACE 6: BRISBANE H'CAP - 1600M.

Leaving the 300m., the tiring TITTLE TAT shifted out slightly, making contact with DASH OF BAY, which in turn contacted BAILS, resulting in BAILS bumping the hind quarters of JACK LIVES HERE, which at the same stage shifted in slightly. As a consequence of pressure on its hind quarters, JACK LIVES HERE was turned inwards, resulting in a crowding to its inside in which DASH OF BAY was the major sufferer. BRAVISA, which had been badly held up behind these runners, was obliged to shift outwards to obtain clear running. COUNT SCENARIO was also impeded for a run behind TITTLE TAT for some distance in the early stages of the straight. Whilst stewards were satisfied no one rider had been responsible for the incident, G. Birney, rider of JACK LIVES HERE, was advised that in similar circumstances he would be expected to react sooner than he had on this occasion. When KIWI WARRIOR improved quickly to the outside of JACK LIVES HERE at the 200m., KIWI WARRIOR was accidentally struck on the head by the whip of G. Birney.

G. Baker was questioned regarding his riding action and more specifically the action of his right hand rounding the turn and in the early stages of the straight. G. Baker explained that he had recently returned from a riding contract in Macau and he had adopted this practice having observed other international riders. Whilst no action was taken, G. Baker was advised that in the stewards' view his actions were unacceptable and he was to desist from using such arm action.

RACE 7: LORD REGO H'CAP - 1200M.

NOOPY was slow to begin.

A. Cowie, rider of NOOPY, was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in at the 1000m., resulting in ANIMATE being taken in, causing a tightening to MOTH BALL. When being steadied, MOTH BALL threw its head up and lost ground.

RACE 8: CONTERE H'AP - 1200M.

TELEBAN was slow to begin.

Upon straightening, HIDDEN CAMERA shifted out, inconveniencing SNAPPY GIFT. SNAPPY GIFT was again inconvenienced at the 300m. when cramped for room between HIDDEN CAMERA and EMMA READY, which shifted in slightly.

When questioned concerning the disappointing performance of SNAPPY GIFT, M. Rodd could not offer any excuses for the horse, which again proved disappointing.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
