QUEENSLAND TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SAT. 24.11.01

WEATHER – FINE TRACK – GOOD RAIL – IN TRUE POSITION

RACE 1: EASY NOW SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP – 1000M

Trainer W Winters was advised that a warning was being placed on RAW DIAMOND which proved difficult to load.

SANDASTA and WINDSCREAMER were slow to begin.

SHEER BLISS raced ungenerously throughout the early and middle stages and got its head in the air.

SANDASTA shifted out on the home turn, inconveniencing FARCICAL and WINDSCREAMER.

A veterinary examination of LUCKYEL, which tailed off, failed to reveal any abnormality. A subsequent veterinary examination of LUCKYEL when that filly had cooled down indicated soreness over the loin muscles.

RACE 2: EVASION H'CAP – 1800M

MINER'S UNION commenced to hang out during in the middle stages and rounding the home turn shifted out, enabling ANOTHER WARRIOR to gain a run to its inside.

Jockey S Katsidis reported that MINER'S UNION did not feel right in its action during the event. A veterinary examination of MINER'S UNION immediately after the event, however, failed to reveal any abnormality.

RACE 3: OUR JUG SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP – 1300M

At the 500m LAWSOME shifted in momentarily, hampering JOHN SYN.

A veterinary examination of CHAMPION OF DANES, which performed disappointingly, failed to reveal any abnormality.

A veterinary examination of BARREL A FUN, which compounded badly in the straight, failed to reveal any abnormality. When questioned regarding BARREL A FUN's performance, M Cahill stated that the gelding raced too hard in the early stages and was consequently left without any finishing effort. He added that on a previous occasion in an official barrier trial when BARREL A FUN was ridden off the pace the gelding performed in a similar fashion in that it did not run on after pulling hard.

RACE 4: LATIN MYTH H'CAP – 1400M

Trainer J Johnston was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for RED GERARD by the prescribed time. When the declared rider M Cahill was subsequently found to be overweight, K Pope was substituted as the rider of RED GERARD. M Cahill's explanation was accepted and no action was taken.

JEUNE'S JESTER jumped away awkwardly and struck the left-hand gate which resulted in its rider G. Colless sustaining an injury to his left foot.

IN SINGAPORE tended to overrace when steadied by its rider approaching the first turn.

Approaching the 600m RENAZZO ran up on to the heels of LARGER and blundered badly.

Approaching the finishing line S Katsidis, the rider of TALBINGO LAD, was obliged to stop riding and straighten his mount when it shifted in causing some inconvenience to RENAZZO.

The Club's veterinary surgeon reported that LARGER was galloped on behind the near hind fetlock and on the outside of the off hind fetlock and that it also lost its off hind plate in running.

The Club's veterinary surgeon reported that JAYARTEE was galloped on on both hocks.

RACE 5: VEIL KINGDOM H'CAP – 1600M

On returning to scale a protest was lodged by M Rodd, the rider of the 2nd placegetter RAW INSTINCT, against CUMBRIA being declared the winner, alleging interference over the concluding stages of the event. It was established that between approximately the 60m and the 30m CUMBRIA shifted in under pressure, making contact with RAW INSTINCT, taking it inwards which resulted in its rider M Rodd being restricted in his use of the whip for a number of strides. Given the narrow margin which separated both horses at the finish of the event, the stewards upheld the objection and amended he placings to read:

1st RAW INSTINCT
2nd CUMBRIA
3rd VALIANT BID

When questioned regarding the circumstances of CHEMICAL BROTHER leading in today's race, apprentice L Meech stated that trainer P Moody had voiced concern that the gelding had got too far out of its ground at its previous start and had instructed her to ride the horse a little closer to the lead. She advised that as a consequence she dug CHEMICAL BROTHER out of the barriers, however this resulted in the gelding overracing and unexpectedly leading.

Jockey S Katsidis was fined $100 for weighing in in excess of ½ kilogram overweight on CUMBRIA.

RACE 6: QUEEN'S CUP – 3200M

G. Baker, the rider of ACORN ICON, was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in after travelling 200m which resulted in tightening to DRUTHER'S OPTION and BRASSED.

At the 700m GO HAYLEY GO had to be steadied to avoid the heels of PARTY KING which shifted out to improve.

A veterinary examination of ZIRASCIBLE, which weakened badly in the straight, failed to reveal any abnormality. When questioned B York stated that ZIRASCIBLE pulled hard and refused to settle for the first 1600m of the event and that this had obviously prejudiced the mare's chances of running out the journey. A swab sample was taken from ZIRASCIBLE.

The Club's veterinary surgeon reported that LORD MAYOR sustained a laceration to the outside of the near hind coronet.
