QLD TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT WED.5.12.01

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr A. Reardon (Chairman); Mr G. Ireland, Mr D. Aurisch, Mr C. McLune, Mr J. Williamson (cadet).

WEATHER - OVERCAST TRACK - GOOD RAIL - 9.5M. ALL TRACK


RACE 1: PUNCHESTOWN H'CAP - 1200M.

As G. Palmer was indisposed, J. Stanley was substituted as the rider of SAHARA VICE.

SOVEREIGN FLYER blundered on jumping away.

Shortly after the start, GALAXY FIGHTER was hampered between NATTIE and IL PADRINO, which shifted out.

After leaving the 1000m., SAHARA MACA commenced to pull hard when being restrained off the heels of STERNER.

SAHARA VICE raced wide in the middle stages.

After leaving the 600m. crossing, SAHARA MACA shifted outwards. VON GALA, which was racing behind SAHARA MACA, had to be steadied and at the same stage NO TILL attempted to shift out from behind the heels of GHENGIS KHAN, and in doing so made contact with VON GALA, resulting in NO TILL becoming unbalanced and shifting back in, struck the heels of GHENGIS KHAN and blundered. GALAXY FIGHTER, which was following, was also inconvenienced in this incident.

In the early stages of the straight, NO TILL was held up for clear running.

NO TILL lost its off fore plate in running.

Trainer H. Wilson reported that STERNER was sore in the near foreleg following the event.


RACE 2: LIMERICK H'CAP - 1200m.

NO MORE KISSES and SCANSION came together on jumping away.

AUNTIE DAWN was checked shortly after the start when tightened for room by SERENDIPITY SNIP, which shifted out.

Approaching the first turn when being steadied, NO MORE KISSES shifted out, making contact with FRASER, forcing that runner out on to the heels of IN CONTROL and having to be steadied. SENSIBLE, which was following, was hampered in consequence.

Nearing the home turn, CITY BLITZ improved to the inside of SERENDIPITY SNIP where there was doubtful room and as a result had to be checked.


RACE 3: THE CURRAGH H'CAP - 1400M.

Trainer R. Heathcote was fined $50 for failing to present NOVA on course by the prescribed time.

SPY KING and BANKER UNDER FIRE were slow to begin.

Near the 250m., BANKER UNDER FIRE had to be steadied when attempting to improve between SO PRECISE and the tiring SURFBOARD.


RACE 4: TRALEE SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1400M.

MANALOA shifted out shortly after the start, tightening PHILP, STELLAR SPECTRA and ALICE'S WAY.

GALERA jumped awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with MAGIC HAT.

G. Duffy reported that whilst BLACKBAN was forced to travel extremely wide the gelding raced erratically and after leaving the 600m. commenced to lose ground quickly. G. Duffy added that he had grave concerns regarding the respiratory sound the horse was making over the final stages of the race. A veterinary examination of BLACKBAN failed to reveal any abnormality. Trainer B. Laming's representative, Mr R. Rix, was advised that a full veterinary clearance would be required prior to BLACKBAN being permitted to race again.

After leaving the 1200m., LIMBER ON, which was racing fiercely, shifted in, taking SIR WIGG in on to ACTION FRONT.

Near the 1000m., LIMBER ON continued to race fiercely and had to be restrained off the heels of MANALOA.

Leaving the 1000m., GALERA shifted in when being steadied and made heavy contact with STELLAR SPECTRA.


RACE 5: FAIRYHOUSE H'CAP - 2153M.

No incidents.


RACE 6: TIPPERARY H'CAP - 1300M.

CIRCULAR KEY shifted in on jumping away, taking STYLISH EYES in on to RCKEY SANDS, which had to be checked when taken in on to the hind quarters of HEAD OF STATE.

Approaching the 1100m., LADY ISABELLA shifted in, tightening STYLISH EYES in on to HEAD OF STATE and as a result STYLISH EYES had to be steadied and shifted out across the heels of LADY ISABELLA. A. Cowie, rider of LADY ISABELLA, was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.

ROCKY SANDS pulled hard in the middle stages and making the home turn had to be restrained off the heels of CIRCULAR KEY.

Near the 800m., ROADINSKY, when racing fiercely, improved to the inside of the heels of DANGER SPICE and shifted in, resulting in CIRCULAR KEY having to be checked. REGAL TYCOON and HEAD OF STATE, which were following, were also hampered in this incident.

J. Pollard, rider of CIRCULAR KEY, was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in shortly after entering the straight, tightening the running of ROCKY SANDS.



RACE 7: NAAS H'CAP - 1000M.

Due to transport difficulties, DAZZER BOY was a late scratching at 1.52 p.m..

Near the 200m., BROCARD had to be steadied to avoid the heels of GAINLY LAD, which shifted out.



RACE 8: LEOPARDSTOWN H'CAP - 1600M.

KINGCIDON jumped inwards at the start, hampering RICHESSE.

On 2 occasions approaching the 1200m., PRAYDO was hampered when taken out by IT'S GRAND.

AMON RA pulled hard in the early and middle stages, and near the 800m. had to be checked off the heels of RUN THE BALL. KINGCIDON and DE KWILA, which were following, both had to be checked as a result.

At the same stage, NOTHIN' LEICA ROSE also had to be restrained off the heels of RICHESSE.

Near the 300m., MISS BRUNHILDE shifted out to improve, resulting in AMON RA having to be steadied. M. Cahill, rider of MISS BRUNHILDE, was advised to exercise more care.

Over the concluding stages, NOTHIN' LEICA ROSE had difficulty obtaining clear running.

AMON RA bled during the event. As this was the second occasion on which the gelding has bled, AMON RA will now incur a lifetime bar from racing.
