QLD TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT THURS.20.12.01

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr A. Reardon (Chairman), Mr C. Clifford, Mr D. Aurisch, Mr W. Flynn, Ms S. Gillespie (Cadet).

WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - 8M. ALL TRACK


RACE 1: SEOUL H'CAP - 1200M.

GRACE'S ROSES shifted in on jumping away and made contact with MADE TO RULE.

After being slowly away, DEL MONTE improved quickly between STELLAR SPECTRA and PLUSH SPLENDOUR, and then shifted out, causing PLUSH SPLENDOUR, THERMOPYLAE, BAVARIA and MADE TO RULE to be inconvenienced.

After passing the 1000m., DEL MONTE, when being restrained, shifted out and was forced to race wide.

RACE 2: HAINAN H'CAP - 1200M.

NO TILL and SPENBAR DANCER came together on jumping away.

PARASANG jumped awkwardly.

Making the first turn, MONTESANTOS SPIRIT had to be steadied to avoid the heels of LEGAL BRIEF, which shifted in.

LAURIE'S FOLLY ran wide near the 600m..

Near the 300m., SPENBAR DANCER had to be steadied to avoid the heels of MR. CONNOLLY, which shifted out.

The club's veterinary surgeon reported that LAURIE'S FOLLY was found to be suffering from acute shin soreness in the off foreleg.


RACE 3: KRANJI H'CAP - 1600M.

MISS BRUNHILDE lost its near hind plate in running.


RACE 4: MACAU H'CAP - 1500M.

The start was delayed when TAI CHI required farrier attention.

GALAXY FIGHTER and COURT BALLET were slow to begin.

Approaching the 1200m., IN CONTROL had to be checked when tightened for room by SOBROTH, which shifted away from ROGUES TO RICHES. K. Yoshida, rider of ROGUES TO RICHES was unable to relieve the tightening due to GHENGIS KHAN improving quickly to his outside.Whilst stewards acknowledged that SOBROTH had played a significant part in the interference, they nevertheless advised G. Killen, rider of GHENGIS KHAN, that in future he would be expected to allow sufficient room for horses racing to his inside. KAAPSICUM and SERIAL THRILLER, which were following, were hampered in consequence.

Shortly after leaving the 1200m., SOBROTH, which was racing ungenerously, shifted out, taking COURT BALLET on to TAI CHI, which had to be checked when tightened on to the hind quarters of BLACKBAN.

Near the 900m., COURT BALLET had to be steadied to avoid the heels of SOBROTH, which shifted out.

On the home turn, SERIAL THRILLER had to be steadied to avoid the heels of IN CONTROL, which shifted out.

In the early stages of the straight, BLACKBAN and TAI CHI were obliged to race wide.

Over the concluding stages, NEDEYEV shifted ground under pressure.

A veterinary examination of SOBROTH following the event revealed the mare to have sustained a small laceration to the outside of the off hind cannon.


RACE 5: TOKYO H'CAP - 1500M.

Apprentice K. Yoshida was questioned as to his riding tactics adopted on SIR PAK. He advised that he had been instructed to settle the gelding if possible behind the leaders, bearing in mind that the gelding was stepping up in distance from 1200m. to 1500m., however after travelling a short distance, SIR PAK began to race keenly and he was obliged to race wide until approaching the 1000m. where he elected to go forward and race outside the leader.

RACE 6: SHA TIN H'CAP - 1300M.

DAZZER BOY and TWISTED came together when attempting to take a run between GRITTY and PEKAN BAY near the 300m..

Inside the 200m., TWISTED shifted in and made contact with PEKAN BAY when attempting to take a run between that horse and GRITTY.

PEKAN BAY bled during the event. As this was the second occasion on which PEKAN BAY has bled, the gelding now will be barred from racing for life.







RACE 7: HAPPY VALLEY H'CAP - 1000M.

CINCHED was a late scratching on veterinary advice at 4.07 p.m. after that gelding broke through the barriers. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on CINCHED were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 17 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 15 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets, applicable to successful wagers placed prior to the withdrawal time. Trainer G. Hoy was advised that he would be required to provide a further barrier certificate for CINCHED before that gelding would be permitted to start again. Following the event, the club's veterinary surgeon reported that CINCHED had sustained a laceration and ligament damage to the near fore pastern and a laceration to the head.

Shortly after the start, LET FLY shifted out, making heavy contact with SHEER IMPULSE. C. Spry, rider of SHEER IMPULSE, reported that after this incident the saddle on his mount shifted back noticeably, which resulted in the gelding having a tendency to buck. Trainer L. Ross was advised that a warning was being placed on SHEER IMPULSE regarding its racing manners.

Approaching the 800m., DISTINCTLY was hampered by COMMAND FORCE, which shifted out slightly.

G. Colless reported that GOODNIGHT KISS commenced to race ungenerously prior to the 600m. and shifted out making home turn.

After leaving the 500m., STEPWIN commenced to hang in despite the efforts of its rider, and on several occasions made contact with LET FLY. Near the 300m., after further contact was made to the hind quarters of LET FLY by STEPWIN, LET FLY shifted out, taking STEPWIN out on to MARVELLE ADELE, which had to shift out abruptly, causing HOW HIGH SIR to be checked when tightened on to the hind quarters of PROUD MARK. After this incident, HOW HIGH SIR had difficulty obtaining clear running. Trainer L. Kelly was advised that a warning would be placed on STEPWIN in relation to its racing manners.


RACE 8: KYOTO H'CAP - 1300M.

Trainer P. Moody was fined $50 for failing to notify the use of blinkers for MARZEE STAR.

M. Cahill, rider of SERENDIPITY SNIP, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that he permitted his mount to shift in under pressure in the vicinity of the 300m., taking HATTA'S DANCER in on to CONTRARY LADY, which in turn shifted in, resulting in STAR COSSER striking the running rail and having to be severely checked. M. Cahill was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 22 December 2001, and to expire at midnight, 31 December 2001. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account M. Cahill's good race riding record.

CONTRARY LADY shifted in on jumping away and made contact with HATTA'S DANCER.


ALL WINNERS AND PEKAN BAY WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
