RACE 1: HOLLYWOOD PARK H'CAP - 1500M.
At the request of M. Cahill, RENAZZO was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon prior to the start and cleared to run.
VISLANDA hung out on the 1000m. turn.
At the 900m., BAY DUKE shifted out off the heels of AUTUMN HABIT after being restrained away from that gelding. When BAY DUKE resumed its position a short distance later, MAJOR FORCE, which had improved to that horse's inside, had to be checked. It was also established that at the same stage RENAZZO had compounded the tightening to MAJOR FORCE by shifting out slightly. In all the circumstances, L. Morrison, rider of BAY DUKE, was issued with a reprimand.
Upon straightening, RENAZZO shifted out from behind AUTUMN HABIT and as a consequence bumped BAY DUKE. MAJOR FORCE, which was racing to the outside of the heels of BAY DUKE, was inconvenienced as a consequence. M. Cahill, rider of RENAZZO, was cautioned in relation to the initial incident. RENAZZO subsequently made contact with BAY DUKE on several occasions in order to obtain clear running.
L. Morrison, rider of BAY DUKE, was reprimanded for weighing in in excess of half a kilogram overweight.
RACE 2: BELMONT PARK H'CAP - 1400M.
No racing incidents.
RACE 3: WOODBINE H'CAP - 1200M.
GEIGER DRAGON was slow to begin.
Upon reaching the 1000m. turn, GEIGER DRAGON ran out across the heels of YOUNG DANIEL and inconvenienced WEARING THE GREEN.
At the 700m., SOLEMNITY had to be restrained when tightened for room by GRANDWAY SHOGUN, which at that stage shifted out around the heels of the leader, YOUNG DANIEL. M. Rodd, rider of GRANDWAY SHOGUN, was urged to exercise more care when shifting ground.
RACE 4: SANTA ANITA H'CAP - 1818M.
When questioned regarding the tactics adopted today on FINAL FORECAST as compared to those of its previous start, G. Colless indicated that on 15 December the gelding jumped extremely well and assumed a prominent position without being pressured. He indicated further that trainer L. Mayfield-Smith had issued specific instructions in today's event to find the fence and settle the horse back in the field. G. Colless stated further that when brought to the outside in the straight, FINAL FORECAST had a tendency to lay in, which prevented him from being able to fully test the gelding. Trainer L. Mayfield-Smith indicated that whilst it was a little out of character for FINAL FORECAST to race near the lead at his most recent start, he accepted that the gelding had begun well that day and with there being little pace, G. Colless had exercised his discretion in racing close to the lead. He added though that in general he would prefer the gelding ridden quietly as it seems to give of his best when ridden in this fashion.
RACE 5: ARLINGTON H'CAP - 1400M.
As the start was effected, NOVA blundered badly, dislodging its rider, J. Stanley. J. Stanley suffered no apparent injury and fulfilled his remaining engagements.
When the pace steadied approaching the 1000m., MERINGO MULL had to be restrained for some distance off the heels of EVIL SNIP, which also resulted in REGAL DEMON having to be steadied.
L. Morrison, rider of FRENCH MOVIE STAR was reprimanded for allowing her mount to shift in at the 1000m., resulting in GARUDA PRINCE being momentarily tightened.
MARINGO MULL was momentarily impeded for a run between ANIMATE and EVIL SNIP near the 300m..
RACE 6: LAUREL PARK H'CAP - 1200M.
As M. Pelling was to be overweight, R. Goltz was substituted as the rider of TOBIANA. M. Pelling was reprimanded.
OPAL RAINBOW, which was kicked in the area of the near hind leg behind the barriers, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
When cramped for room by FLOWER GEM at the 1000m., TOBIANA overreacted and got its head up. M. Rodd, rider of FLOWER GEM, was reprimanded and urged to exercise more care. TOBIANA continued to race in an ungenerous manner and got its head up near the 600m..
LADY ISABELLA was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.
AWESOME EDGE was inclined to lay in behind ANOTHER SYN when placed under pressure in the straight.
J. Stanley reported that DINNASNAP was inclined to hang out during the event when racing wide.
RACE 7:AQUEDUCT H'CAP - 1200M.
On return to scale a protest was lodged by S. Galloway, rider of the 4th placegetter, AGGRAVATION, against MACHTIG MIHI PANIS being declared 2nd, alleging interference over the final 50m.. It was established that near the 50m., MACHTIG MIHI PANIS resented being struck with the whip and ducked in sharply, severely crowding AGGRAVATION and in turn hampering THE WRECK. Whilst AGGRAVATION did sustain severe crowding, stewards did not believe that the interference had materially effected the respective finishing positions of both horses, particularly given the margin which separated AGGRAVATION and MACHTIG MIHI PANIS at the finish. The objection was therefore dismissed.
SAHARA COVET jumped inwards at the start, resulting in crowding to HIRSCHBERG, MACHTIG MIHI PANIS, ZOOFEAR and THE WRECK.
At the entrance to the straight, HIRSCHBERG had to be steadied away from the heels of MACHTIG MIHI PANIS, which shifted out..
At the 250m., the tiring SAHARA COVET was inconvenienced by ZOOFEAR, which drifted out under pressure. L. Meech, rider of ZOOFEAR, was reprimanded and advised that she would be expected to make more effort to keep her mounts on a straight course.
RACE 8: CHURCHILL DOWNS H'CAP - 1200M.
GOOD RESULT was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon being the barriers and passed fit to start.
VALERIAN TRIOMPHE sprawled at the start and lost ground.
TETHYS' TROJAN raced fiercely in the middle stages.
TOTOPOLY was obliged to race wide throughout the event. When placed under pressure in the straight, TOTOPOLY shifted in and brushed GLENELLA LAD. TOTOPOLY continued to lay in under pressure in the straight.
Over the concluding stages, CENTONA had to be checked off the heels of MOTH BALL, which compounded quickly.
The club's veterinary surgeon reported that CENTONA had pulled up lame in the near fore foot.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
