WEATHER - OVERCAST TRACK - GOOD RAIL - 8M. ALL TRACK

RACE 1: CAMPAIGN KING H'CAP - 1000M.

Stewards approved the change of rider from A. Merritt to K. Yoshida on Count Yallah when A. Merritt failed to arrive on course in time. Following an explanation, no action was taken.

For some distance rounding the home turn and until nearing the 200m., CANADIAN GOLD was held up behind COUNT YALLAH and inside the heels of MY TEMPEST, and when attempting to improve had to be checked to avoid the heels of MY TEMPEST.

RACE 2: WIGGLE SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1200M.

LADY LUNCHTYME jumped awkwardly.

DANCING MAN shifted out and brushed HESSVEE near the 400m..

Approaching the 200m., I TOLD YOU, when racing greenly, shifted out and away from LADY LUNCHTYME, causing DANCING MAN, which was racing to the outside, to be hampered.

RACE 3: DANE RIPPER H'CAP - 1400M.

TOSSALINA, which reared in the barrier prior to the start, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed suitable to race.

DIAMOND LASS was slow to jump.

GET MOBILE jumped awkwardly and made contact with WAITAWHERO GOLD.

For some distance after the start, GET MOBILE was inclined to race ungenerously.

Near the 1000m., WAITAWHERO GOLD, when racing to the inside of GET MOBILE, shifted in of its own accord and made heavy contact with the running rail becoming unbalanced and losing ground. A warning was issued to the connections of WAITAWHERO GOLD. ARTIST'S TOUCH and STELLAR were inconvenienced when WAITAWHERO GOLD lost ground.

Near the finish line, TRIVIAL PURSUITS became unbalanced when it shifted out and brushed BUSH TRIUMPH.

When questioned concerning the seemingly disappointing performance of SCANSION, stable representative Mr D. Brown explained that, as instructed, A. Merritt led on the horse, however he felt he had to work hard to gain the lead, and in his opinion this may have had some effect on the filly over the latter stages. He further added that SCANSION may be better suited over shorter journeys. A veterinary examination of SCANSION revealed the filly to have dislodged a tooth cap. A swab sample was taken from SCANSION.

RACE 4: WATNEY H'CAP - 1400M.

RIGHTO knuckled on jumping away.

BARRACK jumped awkwardly.

Shortly after the start, KING TARZAN shifted in and made contact with BARRACK.

RACE 5: CANTERBURY BELLE H'CAP - 1841M.

TRUE ENOUGH was slow to begin.

Rounding the home turn, TRUE ENOUGH, when attempting to improve, shifted out and brushed RHYTHMIC ROAD.

Near the 400m., CITY MISSION shifted out, taking LORD RUSTIC out on to TRUE ENOUGH, which in turn made contact with RHYTHMIC ROAD.

BORN CHIC appeared to resent being struck with the whip and became unbalanced passing the 200m...

Trainer M. Tremble and jockey D. Griffin were questioned concerning the seemingly disappointing performance of LORD RUSTIC. D. Griffin explained that the horse travelled well throughout running, however when asked for an effort the horse responded until near the 200m. where he felt that the horse's run had ended. M. Tremble stated that the gelding was having its first attempt at this distance and in his opinion failed to run out the journey, and believed that LORD RUSTIC was better suited over 1600m.. The explanation was noted.

RACE 6: DANCING POET H'CAP - 1200M.

EMPYREAN and GRIND were tightened for room at the start between DEUXIEME and HOO HA, both of which shifted ground.

Passing the 800m., EMPYREAN had to be checked off the heels of RED D'OR.

OVERSLADE LANE was inclined to pull hard in the middle stages.

Leaving the 600m., GRACE'S KIN had to be eased to avoid the heels of DEUXIEME., which shifted in. M. Rodd, rider of DEUXIEME, was advised to exercise more care.

Near the 500m., OVERSLADE LANE shifted out and away from the heels of HOO HA, forcing WANDDINI wider on the track.

Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight, GRACE'S KIN and RED D'OR made contact on 2 occasions when being held up for clear running.
B. Albuino, rider of EMPYREAN, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that he permitted his mount to shift out passing the 400m., causing GARFIELD'S GAL to be taken out on to the heels of HOO HA, which had to be checked and lose ground. B. Albuino was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 3 February, and to expire at midnight, 13 February 2002.
